Emma really saved the day. Were it not for her friendship and honesty, Betty would have gotten away with her lies and Kevin's shallow parents would have happily allowed her to marry their son based on her appearance alone. It was an example of how one should stick up for those they care about. Also, one should remember that a beautiful face doesn't necessarily mean a beautiful personality. Betty and Kevin's parents were shallow people who would happily lie to get what they wanted.

Wow... Courtney was such a hero. She was so brave, she risked her life to run back into the burning building to save Kevin, and ended up getting burned really badly. All the while, Kevin's parents are seen miserable, alone and living in their wealthy mansion. They are seen reflecting on their behavior and regretting everything they did too late. Kevin's mom: We're so lonely. It's been years since Kevin visited us. Kevin's dad: All because we made one stupid mistake in trying to get Courtney to dump him by making her feel bad about her looks in order for him to be with Betty. Kevin's mom: Now no one wants to be around us because of our poor behavior. Kevin's dad: If only we were nicer to Courtney and thanked her for saving Kevin's life. This wouldn't have happened. Meanwhile, Betty is seen working as a waitress in a seedy diner after being unable to find a job as a nurse in another hospital again because of her cruelty. Unlike Kevin's parents, she is seen angry over how her life turned out and having not learned her lesson. Betty: Ugh, I hate this job so much! It's always the same thing. My boss is a jerk, she docks my pay, I have to clean up after hours and worse off, I get hit on by unscrupulous rich men who wants one night with me.
