This is brilliant Bryan. Unfortunately, I’m off on holiday for 2 weeks, but determined to do this when I’m back. Will take a mouthpiece while I’m off but can’t take the trumpet.

I started yesterday. I was able to do the entire exercise along with you. Today was a little different. Needed more breath on low notes and has trouble with F # and G above the scale.

Glad to have you with us, Jim. It's quietly a workout, so that's not uncommon. I'll be interested to see how you feel after a few more days.

I‘m in. On Tenorhorn/Euph though
@AirflowMusicNYC5 ай бұрын
Great! Obviously, euphonium will be at the same written pitch (if you’re a treble clef reader) when playing along, although the same sequence will work great on the tenorhorn.

Hi Bryan, question for you...I'm a comeback player and one of the things we always did, and what I always do now to start my practices is long tones. I do them much longer than you are doing here. Does doing them for 32 or 40 counts matter? I do it for breathing, tone and control. Does the length of time matter?(counts-wise) Thanks! Hope to see you play live again here in NYC sometime soon.

Hi there. Good question! Since there'll be a wide variety of skill levels joining in with this, I'm starting out easy. We'll absolutely build up to longer tones as we go!
@kptrpt15 ай бұрын
Hi Bryan, I'm onboard. I haven't done long tones on a steady basis in quite a while, so it will hopefully help with endurance as well as tone. One question. Where do you recommend doing this in the practice routine? At the very beginning, after a brief warm-up, after getting through everything else? Thanks!
@AirflowMusicNYC5 ай бұрын
Definitely after a warm-up, but otherwise it varies for me everyday.

Bryan I feel like my lips end up closing when I try to go higher, I have an over bite so my trumpet goes down, I tend to go press more and put my trumpet lower when going higher yet there’s a limit to my range because of it, what should I do?
@AirflowMusicNYC5 ай бұрын
Are you trying to play higher by blowing harder, by any chance?
@jonathanaguilar3885 ай бұрын
@@AirflowMusicNYC sadly yes I have, I don’t seem to find any other resource to increase the air pressure, I’m not sure if I’m using my tounge and abdominals correctly? I’m a tad bit lost 😅

So i was good until top f# and G started feeling little pinched on f# and on bothe the buzz was stoping here and there. On low Ab G and F# it was very hard to get the buzz going and maintian the buzz the whole duration.. had to pause the video and kept retrying. Is it that i am that weak? Or that i am doing improper technigue in the extreme registers of this excersie. The others resonate just fine.
@AirflowMusicNYC5 ай бұрын
Hey Leo. It's a fairly long blow, particularly when you start out. Stick with it and see how you feel after a few more days.

I have marching band camp, and it very difficult in length, dynamics, tonguin and range . I come back home very tried and feeling destroyed. Is it a good idea to continue to work on long tones? Will this help me improve my playing ar band camp?

If you’re that tired at the end of the day then rest! Maybe do them before you go in, in the morning.
