Indeed helpful video.. understood the complications..sir satyajit has covered all the pros and cons long back when the very committee had been constituted, and your explanation added up more insights into it. Thank you❤ Moreover considering the simul. Elections , if consent of all parties could be achieved via proper plan and without hampering the interest of People then it could be another pillar for achieving greater heights of Democracy . However, being a diverse nation with all range of varied issues and demands.. simultaneous election holds possibility of hammering over Federalism concept as well. Hence it could not be summed up straight whether it is a boon or a ban, but a mixture of both.!!

According to me there should be 2 elections rather than 1 election. One for all state and local bodies and another at central level with 2.5years difference between both but keep the remaining term as it is in panchayat . It will keep the federal structure intact and people will have the option to show their emotions in elections.

Thank you Sir for giving the valuable insights on such a crucial topic. As far as the idea of simultaneous elections is concerned, it has both pros and cons associated with it (as already being explained in other sessions). For me the following questions strike the most : Can't the government machinery make statutory chages like making necessay amendments to RPA to prevent malafide party defections, rationalising Model Code of Conduct, greater tansparency in election funding, cutting down extravagant election campaigns (to bring down expenses), greater strengthening of bodies like the ECI to restore public trust etc instead of going for big time amendments in the constitution itself..?? Also there is an apprehension of simultaneous elections undermining the very idea of Federalism by way of subsuming local/regional issues which in real sense are very crucial for a diverse country like ours. Can the merit of reduced expenses (in case of simultaneous elections) weigh more than the idea of federalism..?? In reality we always see that MCC is so blatantly violated by all parties (irrespective of whichever ideology they adhere to) and that too without facing any serious repercussions from ECI (the body itself doesn't have much punitive powers yet). The biggest and most disturbing feature of our elections is Criminalisation of politics in alarming proportions. Will simultaneous elections address this disturbing issue..?? Simultaneous elections may also lead to reduced accountabilty of the executive. Can we part away from this very essential feature especially when levels of corruption is extremely high in our governtment machinery...?? So the question is if we can bring MAJOR substantive changes to the entire election process by making statutory changes to relevant laws, by strengthening our institutions like ECI, by making the elctorate well educated and progressive then do we actually need to amend our constitution and give effect to simultaneous elections and thereby supposedly risk undermining the very essence of our federalism...?? I think these questions, unless legitimately and sincerely addressed and mitigated, would keep the general public apprehensive about the idea of simultaneous elections in the days ahead. And thank you for allowing to put forth our inputs.

Many worry this is another step toward a more centralized system, similar to China !
