Listening to this on Spotify and it is a great conversation. Geoff is a realist when he looks back on the sport and I really like that. Lots of old riders are quick to put down modern racers. Strongly agree with him saying when you find the sport yourself you tend to get hooked on it more. My parents hated the whole thing and after 17 years I still think about bikes 90% of the day 😅 most of the guys I know who are parented into the sport over that time can take it or leave it.

The modern riding techniques are kinda depressing because most DIDN'T depend on the equipment. For example, scrubbing was 100% possible from the very start and it was the same on the road! Knee sliders are like 80 years old (ice speedway racers invented them) so MotoGp guys could've had their knees down from the very very start, the races in Goodwood show us that and it's crazy. A "club rider" could go 60 years back in time and probably utterly destroy the legends of the sport, offroad and on road! We ride much much better than the legends did and that's kinda sad.

A ‘club rider’ on a 60 year old bike as the guys back then were riding, might not necessarily destroy the legends. Just my opinion though.
