One of my best metal detecting sessions to date and one I'll not forget. I couldn't believe how lucky I was to make these finds and in amongst the goodies is one of my all time bucket listers. At last!!

Holy smokes....... This was unbelievable to view. It made the hair on the back of my neck stand up! I cannot imagine how excited you were to find all of these treasures. Especially the Anglo Saxon coins! Congratulations to you on this rare achievement.

Hi Neil, they managed to elude me for quite a while too and then I just happened to get on a bit of land that has seen some activity from that period. Amazing haul Andy, i've yet to find a Skeet. I did laugh when you said you'd taken a week off work to do some decorating but was then sat in a field and then "Day 2" lool!! I'd be all over that track for the next few visits, looks to be a very old pathway. Thanks for the upload.

oh wow Andy m8...now that is what you call a fantastic hunt...if that was me i would be doing cartwheels up and down that field...( i bet you won't ignore the compacted ground in future...lol) as you say we go detecting and we just have to walk over these signals...and it's good that your digging the low numbers...i dug a 10 signal on saturday gone...and out popped my first cut half & i was smiling for the rest of the day...but i can't imagine how you were feeling when those Sceattas came up...many congratulations to you..a fantastic video (i will have to watch it again m8) all the best GL&HH Gordon.

A club i follow here In Denmark found a complete little Bronce Sword in 6 Pieces in a radius of 6 meters. Found ofa lifetime. A hoard in Jutland of Silver coins 216 + 2 British coins and 2 Silver dinars. So theres is possible founds Out there.

The buckle is a strap end clasp circa 1300-1400 great finds remember finding my sceata was totally clueless but was still buzzing must have gridded the surrounding area for an hour 😀

I have to be fair with you though and say that I don't often make finds like these, but I've had a bit of a lucky streak just recently. Most of my permissions are fairly quiet, it's probably due to them being quite rural and not an awful lot of activity. Every now and then though something surprises me. 🙂

Awesome hunt! Congratulations on the silver coin from 700s A.D.! I get excited when I find a coin here in the US from the 1800s! Lol if I found something from 700s AD you’d be dragging me off the field by my legs because they would be no good to me anymore!

Hi Rich, thanks very much for your kind words buddy 👍 I use my Samsung Galaxy Note 9 to record the video, it's recorded in UHD but I do sometimes downsize it to FHD. For the audio I use Rode Wireless Go II Mics. I do have a DJI Osmo Mobile 3 gimbal, but it's not very often that I use it, a cheap tripod does a good enough job really. I'm just starting out detecting, would you say it is easier to find older items on flat ground or on a hillside?

Hi Mattias, that's a tricky one to answer really. Most of my old finds have been found on high ground, but that may be due to the rural location over here. Slopes should be good too though as things do move downhill over the years. Hope that's of some help buddy?

It can be hard going, especially if you're not in a rural area. I'd start locally though, look on Google Maps for any houses that have a paddock or a field at the rear of them, that's how I started out, just a very small field and once you've got your first positive response from a landowner, that'll give you a bit more confidence with the next one. I'd always prefer to ask face to face, people will be able to get an idea of your character which is not really possible with just a letter or an email. You're still going to get some turn downs, but if you do don't take it personally. In that situation I'd say 'do you mind me asking the reason?, that will hopefully let them explain why and you're more likely to be able to overcome the objections. If it's still no, offer to leave them your details if they change their mind. I think it's always much better if someone sees you around from time to time, maybe a rural pub where farmers are likely to visit on a weekend, even walking a dog regularly through a village, the more that people see you and perhaps get to know you, the far better your chances are. It's a bit of a patience game, don't get disheartened!
