This was very instructive. I especially liked that you gave examples, so I was able to hear the differences in sound to more fully understand the effects of the soft pallet's height.

Awesome tip.. lesson.. I’ve had palette tension .. never thought it possible tx

I'm so glad you found it useful John! I had to make a video about it because I also used to experience tension there (and it created tongue retraction/tension for me too). Thanks for taking the time to leave a comment, I appreciate it! :)

Hi! I would love a video on vibrato. What kind of exercises develops a natural vibrato and how is vibrato supposed to feel like when you sing? I have managed to sing with vibrato in head voice but not in a chest voice or a mix - how can I develop a stronger/louder vibrato? Thank you for a great channel! / Lise

Hello Lise there many ways too develop a strong vibrato. You can use the method 1,1,2,1,2,3 so basically the pan tectonic scale or inhale all the way and exhale all your air out but at that last moment bring in the ah or o sometimes i do hoo cuz it is easier I’m not a vocal coach so she would be able to explain it better lol

Glad you're facing us Kim, Lol!! Awesome tutorial! If I may make a suggestion? Can you edit the three examples together, meaning one after the other without any instruction in between each? I think that would really drive home the differences for beginners.

I have been told recently that I sound nasaly when singing never happened before and this exercise is going to help greatly. Very good explanation of the soft palette. I tend to feel alot of jaw tension and its frustrating any tips on jaw relaxation as I know this is down to nerves.

Hi Jo, great question re jaw tension and you're so insightful to have linked it to nerves. In the past year I've begun to realise how much of the tension singers experience is due to fear and the need to control. Yes we can focus on relaxing the jaw but often the tension will just move if the singer doesn't feel safe to trust their voice without micro-managing it in some way. So what I tend to do with my students now is find out what's underneath the fear, doubt or gripping onto control and work on THAT. Creating a safe space to start to let go of that control and over time learn that their voice is actually more accurate, resonant and beautiful without their tense interference. But it does take time and trust from the singer.

I always have so much mucus i feel pressure on my soft pallet
@thatsweetroar4 жыл бұрын
Hmmm, that seems unusual to feel mucus causing pressure on the soft palate. Have you seen an ENT? Best to get it checked by a specialist.

As a baritone in a choir I was thought to yawn 😅
@thatsweetroar10 ай бұрын
Yes, that's often the case in choirs too (especially if they're wanting your to create a more classical sound)
