I got an 031 (the black version) from a guy on Ebay, about 10 days ago. As good as the vid is, it doesn't do the Sumo justice. This watch looks GOOD. First thing, I took off the bracelet, and put on a Bond (new) NATO. It looks like a SPECTRE Omega... for 10 percent of the cost. Even without the bracelet, it's heavy. At 44mm, it's wears smaller. Very comfortable. The first owner had lost one of the pins adjusting the bracelet. Seiko sent me 2 links and pins, no charge. If you're thinking of buying an SKX... start saving your money, and buy a Sumo instead.

Cool video, I have the same watch and like it so far. Definitely better then my skx007 in quality. When removing a link I broke the collar for the pin and when I called Seiko for replacement collars they sent me the 3 extra links along with the pins/collars for free. Now that's customer service.

I literally got my Sumo today from Singapore. I took off the bracelet and is wearing it on a Nato for the time being. The watch feels so comfortable on my small wrist so I appreciate the lug width of 20mm.

Just so you're aware the SBDC029, SBDC031 and SBDC033 are all available in the US through boutique Seiko dealers. They can all be found on the Seiko USA website. They are no longer Japanese exclusives now that the Prospex line is sold in the US.

Had the older model of this and had to sell it. The watch says made in Japan but if you open the case on some of them you will see stamped inside the caseback "China". Looks like the movements are made in Japan but the cases in China. If I understand correctly, under Japanese law, if a facility is managed by Japanese workers (regardless of location) then the product can be labeled as Made in Japan. If this watch was marked as export to be officially sold in the USA I doubt usa regulations would allow for it to be marked as made in Japan. Just felt misled when I bought the watch. Still is a very awesome and nice watch though.

I think this watch has 2 issues. I agree with you that it needs sapphire at the price point, and I would also like to see a sliding divers extension like the MM300. Overall a great watch, and as always, great review

Last year around this time I gifted myself with the black one for my birthday I was worried like many about the case size for my 6 3/4" wrist size and I feel it looks fine and I also own a skx173 that I adore and would not sell because I love the day-date feature. But I've come to realize that I really dig the 20mm lug width on this seiko maybe is due to my small wrist size but I feel that even smaller watches with 22mm metal bracelets look Weird on my small wrist. Now the sumo case is a little large but as many point out it's always the lugs being long but the sumos lugs curve down on the wrist to give it a nice illusion of feeling small. So my birthday is coming this Friday and I want to gift myself another watch, for weeks I've been looking around and was looking into the srp777 nice watch but not to sure about the case shape. In the end I love my black sumo so much that Saturday morning I placed and order for the Blumo... Quick question for anyone that might have a little knowledge, I want to upgrade the hardlex on the blumo to a double dome crystal with blue AR coating is it really necessary as some point out that the crystal gasket needs replacement???

The stock bracelet is the perfect match for the case. Ive owned several sumos with several diff. Strapcode options but always go back too the factory bracelet BUT added a marinemaster clasp😀💪

@@jeffd3802 it’s funny because that’s exactly what I did as well. When I first got the Blumo I ordered a Endmill from Strapcode. I couldn’t get a good fit or feel on the Strapcode and put stock bracelet back on . Later I ordered a Marine Master clasp and perfection 👍🏻

How do you rate Steinhart Ocean 1 series against this Seiko Sumo in terms of build quality and performance? Is Steinhart Ocean 1 series with a Swiss ETA 2824-2 movement at 28800bhp better then the Seiko Sumo's movement 6R15 at 21600bhp? 2824-2 has a power reserve of 40 hours and 6R15 is 50 hours. Sumo meets ISO 6425 standard while the Ocean is not. I also considering their bracelet sizing which the Ocean has a 22mm and Sumo 20mm. Some say the Sumo deserve a 22mm bracelet due to its size and weight. What do you think?

The 6R15 movement is incredible , on my wrist wins 1 second during the day when I sleep I am leaving it in the position of 3 o'clock and lost 1 sec per night , that correct the sec of the day , if you live it plane wins more sec , the best position is on 3 !!!!! , amazing !!!!! you have a cosc near 0 sec per day and is a seiko that means you can no service for a lot of years not like the etas swiss movements that needs more services , nothing more robust like seiko movements and you have all in the 6r15 robust an acurated and cost 300-400 dollars only , sorry for my english !!!!

I've had my Blumo for three days and first impressions r good. $418 eBay via Tokyo in 7 days. Accuracy is running about -8sec/day. Will this improve or is it too early to tell? Bezel alignment is perfect. Lume is bright. Bracelet could be better but it's not a deal breaker. I ordered a blue stitch sailcloth strap for the sake of variety.

This new model started to be sold in 2015 , would not know from what month, it is easy to see in the SEIKO what date was manufactured the watch we have on hand , the first number of the serial number is the year and the second number the month, for example if the code is serious 59xxx is from September 2015 , for November and December using the letters N and D in the serial number to put in a digit 12 months of the year , so you know how to know when it was manofactured our Seikos if he no longer knew previously

***** Well, that's one example of two watches that may or may not have been regulated and for over how much time have you observed these? The 6R15 is a demonstrably better movement for its construction, durability, quality of build, 50 hour power reserve and stability. The best aspect of the 6R15 compared to the 4R36 is that it maintains consistency regardless of position. I think this puts it on a different level. I have two 4R36 and 2 6R15 movements and love them all for different reasons.

It's why they lost the cell phone and electronics industry to Apple and the Koreans, and it let the American and Korean automotive industries catch up to them and even surpass them in quality. All because they wanted the Japanese consumer to feel special. And it's only a matter of time before they loose the affordable watch market to the smart watches from Apple, the Koreans and the Chinese.

Yes, it has worked in the sense that we the consumer crave, are willing to pay more for and primarily choose Japanese made cars and watches over Korean, American and especially Chinese made products. The electronics portion of your argument I will grant you.  And the American automobile industry hasn't caught up with nor will ever "surpass" the Japanese in quality unless a massive shift in the American auto workers work ethic/self worth happens . The Koreans and Chinese maybe one day, but not the Americans anytime soon.

Smart watches are just like today's popular music, they have no soul are a passing fad and will not stand the test of time. Smart phones and smart watches are outdated and disposable every couple of years. Great watches are utilitarian pieces art that can be passed down from generation to generation.I do agree however, that the Japanese marketing has been sub-par these past few years in regards to cars, watches, etc.

How do you find the 20mm bracelet? Does it feel like it's not suited for that watch? That's my biggest concern about ordering this watch. I find the 20mm lugs too narrow for a 44mm case. Even 42mm watches come with a 22mm band.
