I’d like to state, this video was made after seeing how Oliver guarded Paul George and other nba players. You’ll never see some of the footage unfortunately but he more than deserves this score, his defense is incredible

Defense is in Art!!! I'm just glad it's getting it's recognition, I'm pretty much the same way, though I can't block up top..so I get the ball before it gets there, but I make sure to contest without having my feet underneath their landing

That defensive display was beautiful. There’s nothing more satisfying than the look of hopelessness from an offensive player who can’t score and goes 15 straight possessions without scoring. That disguised hand check is great and his hip level always seems to be correct, he’s not off balance. I’d love to see him play 1’s against a world class ball handler who can chance speeds and levels. Great video

That’s why I love Dev, Dev was watching what he was doing on defense and used it to his advantage, Dev adapted, and used different things to his advantage, some of these KZbin basketball creators lose games because they don’t know how to adapt.

The definition of stay in front of your man. Those small quick hops and active hands are his key in a man to man defense and recover on defense.

The type of defense Oliver plays, that's the only type of defense true competitors know. It drives me crazy when I see subpar defense from NBA players - they are supposed to exemplify what it means to play possession-by-possession, but they're stuck on some "star" and "scorer only" nonsense. Not enough players go after it like Oliver so he's a very refreshing discovery - people on twitter were bashing Klay for getting locked up by a "nobody" during a pro run, but that "nobody" happened to be Oliver.

@woodchiu1967Ай бұрын
Momentary reaching-in and brief hand-checking can often happen as part of the game, and refs may not always call it unless it clearly disrupts the offensive player's progress or leads to excessive contact. A quick reach-in to try to steal the ball without contact might be allowed, but if it results in hitting the arm or body of the offensive player, that's a foul. Similarly, hand-checking is often tolerated if it's just a brief touch to gauge where the offensive player is. But if the defender continuously uses their hands to control the dribbler or restrict their movement, it's illegal. The line between a legal play and a foul depends on how much it affects the offensive player's ability to move freely. As a referee, you probably know how tough it can be to judge that fine line in real-time, especially when players test those boundaries!

Its unique how much he doesn't turn his back on defense, defending backwards is something you dont see much.

Great video, Great rating, Great series and great content. It’s honestly such a relief for someone who actually understands basketball and played basketball at a high level doing rating. People understand basketball like that until you’ve played against people at every level. Ive played juco and I can say once again: people, there are levels of playing basketball.

So S is always nba caliber right ? A is like college level or over seas pro ? Basically he isn’t nba level yet. As much as I like the solo ranking it’s a bit misleading bc it only really reflects 1on1 play as opposed to game play solo ranking. I hope you can add more components for bball iq in a 5v5 and game feel as usually those are more helpful than just playing one on one.

There’s a very thin line between a great defender and a hacker who thinks grabbing and hand checking is great defense! But you push that line until the refs call it and then you ADJUST to your ref! Most guys NEVER adapt to the ref! They expect the ref to ADAPT to THEM!
