Ate this hokkien mee from back in the late 60's when we lived at the block facing this stall, back then it was charcoal fried and we brought our own eggs and yes that was the grandfather who fried every plate. Also had the good fortune to eat the original Outram char kway teow from the kind uncle when I was studying at sepoy lines campus.

I had the real deal fried the original founder himself back in the 90s.. i tried it recently again and it taste the same! Impressed. Another place i remebered was along serangoon road behind racecourse road, there was a shop where a old man sits down and fried his hokkien noodles - so his wok was very low...

Greg - long time watcher, first time commenter. Firstly, thank you for taking the time to make these videos, I (and am sure all of your loyal followers) absolutely appreciate the level of detail you go to in producing this, and I love how these videos celebrate and shine a spot light on the people behind the plate of food. I'm planning a holiday back to Singapore and have made it a goal to have hokkien mee at least twice. Seeing as you're my most trusted YT Hawker advisor, are you able to recommend me your favourite wet and dry hokkien mee stores? Big love from Melbourne!

My favourite hokkien mee stall by far, recommended by my wife who has been eating it for over 20 years. Pretty consistent unlike some other stalls. Best to make reservations a day before visiting.

Greg like u said arguably top 5 but for me, I ranked them top 3. Been eating at this stall since 70s at their old single level stall located next at the open patch field. I can even pin point that the stall is at the last row, corner stall facing Lor 2 😊. My first date supper with my ex gf (wife mow) is at this stall as both of us were living near by. Loads of memories for me at this mkt

Sorry. The Lai Heng at Lor 4 Blk 73 as recommended by this gentleman… I tried and at most, slightly above average n not as good as this gentleman claimed.. of cos, in terms of taste of good food, I can only say, to each. So I really wonder, how reliable are these foodies?
@GregoryLeow2 жыл бұрын
Hi Chan Kai, as you said, it is all individual taste. In this vlog, I try my best but ultimately it is just my opinion and my opinion cannot please all. If people like it, they give thumbs up, if they don’t, they give thumbs down. No hard feelings on my part, bro 😎
@anthonyow57502 жыл бұрын
TBH Lai Heng is one of my favourite BCM. That's why taste is subjective. BTW Greg's vlog is always very truthful and he doesn't get paid compare to some other which ask for $ to feature in their vlog. As for this HKM, I have the same opinion with Greg, there's no wok hei due to them cooking it in a huge batch with lots of broth. Taste wise is ok just that if there’s wok hei it will be better.

ppl go there to eat carrot cake, the hokkien mee can skip anytime la.
@janeng76592 жыл бұрын
Oh, thats not goodnthey omit the pork belly as it is one factor that made them different from other stalls. Already standard has dropped, sadly. Was my top 1, now ....unsure. ate it since the 80s from his father (grandfather) gen. Every weekend. Just by the look without tasting i could tell.
