I've been working with my wife to become stronger and challenge her to get stronger after a former trainer had her cut below 1500 calories, we've brought her to 2100 since. It's been great in just a month to see not only her lifts improve, but to see some welcome increases in her mindset and self-confidence. Thanks for all the MIND PUMP crew does for the community!

I’ve had pretty significant depression and anxiety for decades. I Had it badly after both my pregnancies. After years of being on an antidepressant, I felt it wasn’t helping me as much as it was numbing me. I weaned off of it after being on one for 15 plus years and focused on meditation, eating well, drinking adequate water, and doing some sort of movement every day, with three days of strength training. I have not felt this good in years. I will never give up exercise, it is my number one resource in my mental health tool box. 🏋️‍♀️

Maybe you were not suffering from clinical depression. What you've done shouldn't have significant impact on real depression. Congratulations on feeling better after changing your poor lifestyle.

@@jakubchrobry3701 yes I was diagnosed with clinical depression. I have been on medication, I’ve seen psychiatrists and also have a psychologist whom I speak to every 2-3 weeks. Medication did help me initially but I was on it for over a decade and for me personally after many many years, I felt it was not working for me. My medication was switched and I still did not see much improvement. I’m not saying I don’t have days where I still struggle, I do. But I work VERY hard with non medical interventions and this is how I personally see the biggest improvement. It’s not always sunshine and rainbows, but I’m much better.

I've been hospitalized with acute anxiety and can say that in my case, it was not caused by thinking about the future. But when I'm excersing or training, all my anxiety goes away. As soon as I walk out of the gym, it returns. It's been a long recovery.

I had a coworker tell me today that I seem very different. We are at the end of a project and I am usually pretty cranky and tired from the mad rush that always happens. The only thing that has changed is that I’ve been consistently eating well and working out for the past 3 months. Makes a huge difference!

I work as a rehab chiropractor. Much different from a medical doctor, but we each work with humans the experience stress, anxiety, depression, and pain. The reason the advice isn’t given isn’t because the practitioners aren’t aware of it. It’s because of compliance, bad messaging, and lack of insurance coverage for the proper referrals like personal training, health coaching, and nutritional counseling. That doctor can’t be held accountable to fill all those rules. Proper referrals must be made and people need to hear the truth.

Your mental health is like a journey, not a destination. There will be ups and downs along the way, but it's important to keep moving forward. Pack your bags with self-care tools and coping mechanisms. Make sure to stop and smell the roses along the way. Don't be afraid to ask for help when you need it. Enjoy the journey, even on the difficult days.

Hardest part, for me, of getting started on strength training when stuck in anxiety and depression is finding where to start that is something reasonable. "Influencers" and MLMs in this industry have made everything such a mess. People arguing over the minutiae of fitness makes just getting started feel overwhelming and still failing. Finding you all has been life changing and life saving.

Exercising has definitely been great for my mental health. My first love was running (and I used to absolutely hate running), there would be days I'd go out there running and crying at the same time and it would always turn my mood around. Its the reason I continue with it. I also do bodyweight and barbell strength training which I do enjoy. Its silly but I always felt like a deer or horse being set free when I run.

I’m a huge believer in meds as “a bridge” like Sal suggests. Like for anxiety, CBT has excellent long-term efficacy for major depression without the side effects of meds, but people with major depression can sometimes be just too stuck to engage in CBT effectively, and meds can be very helpful to get people to a place where they are able to engage in CBT and then can become able to wean off the meds and have long term benefits of CBT without the side effects of meds.

Oooh, Justin, you just reminded me about the cheese. It may just be the lack of cheese that's making you cranky, depending on how much you used to eat of course. Cheese, especially Parmesan, contains l-tyrosine which is a precursor to dopamine. It also contains tryptophan, the precursor to serotonin 😃

Sal is right .. I know people who are sick and in medication and they don’t change their lifestyle and it is frustrating they rather take a pill Let’s not forget the fact that Drs are trained to be reactive not proactive .. they learn to cure but not to prevent that’s why holistic doesn’t triumph over medicine because people want remedies when is too late rather than using holistic methods to prevent rather than curing sickness

My mental health is, let's say a landfill that's on fire... I miss the gym. I muss how I felt. I've gained 32 lbs. (Hey, thyroid cancer here). Any input would be great! I'm on a non weight bearing order for my ankle surgery. Told I'll eventually need a knee replacement. What I need is to peel off thus extra weight! Any input? What program would be good to start after a 6 is month maybe longer doc order- no working out.??? And the guy who runs... could he be dealing with a psoas muscle issue???

I don't get why they made MAPS Aesthetic if everytime someone asks them about Aesthetic, they steer the caller away from Aesthetic and puts them on Anabolic. Sure if you are new to lifting, you don't need much volume to grow. But putting everyone on Anabolic (even the experienced ones) defeats the purpose of it. If your recovery is good and you are strong then there's nothing wrong with more volume.

Sadly, some of these medical professionals have poor health and are overweight themselves due to the pressure of work. So to advise one to exercise is probably down on the list for them or unlikely if they have not achieved it themselves. I am 44 years old and I do not recall having a GP that is good shape. Thank God I rarely see my doctors.
