It is amazing how much functionality is built into modern aircraft compared to what pilots had available to them in versions of the 737 prior to the NG. And to top it off, it is amazing how much work by PMDG went into creating this work of art. Then, the icing on the cake is to have a resource such as yourself to help us understand it all. Thank you.

Still a wonder why VSD was not implemented in the A320 and A330 neo series but are available out of the box on the a350 and a380 and are even upgraded than what is offered on the 737ng. Its one of the advantage few advantage the 787 has over the a330neo apart from the range.

Probably because a rather large display redesign would have been needed, requiring additional training.

Emmanuel American Football just kicked off this weekend. It’s time to start long hauling and watching some games in the background while I’m crossing the pond. 😂😂😂😂 You got directv in the cockpit of those a330s your flying around now. 😂😂

Amazing captain. You really need to be a training pilot! Your ability to make these videos, narrate, teach, and fly the damn plane makes my brain boggle 😂

Loved having that profile view on the E jet, my company never really taught us how to use the VSD on the 73

great video. I did remember you covering this in the initial tutorials for the 737 when it was released. I still am way more comfy with the boeing that the airbus, but still learning.

This _is_ maybe one of the best features of the Boeing 73NG as far as navigation is concerned, imho. As a simmer though: I do other stuff while flying. I like that the Boeing will start the T/D on its own if you've set the lower alt on the MCP. Airbus makes you push the knob in to start the managed descent. Not a big deal but requires you to be at the screen...guess that wouldn't apply to an actual pilot. It would be rather alarming if they left the cockpit for extended periods
@Micg51 Жыл бұрын
That's really dumb that the Airbus doesn't go down on its own. I've flown the Embraer and the 737 and the VNAV on both will start down at TOD as long as the MCP alt is something lower.

Very I informative sir, I have not seen this information anywhere else. Lots of information there to look at, and some important safeguards. I can understand PM monitoring this closet. Thanks so much for your time and effort in producing this video for us to better use the systems on this aircraft.

Is the VSD part of official flows or procedures in certain Airlines (Use is mandatory), or is it just a handy tool that can be used if the Pilots can use if they want to.
@A330Driver Жыл бұрын
In a minimum of one certain airline its use is mandatory for the PM below FL100 or latest when the approach checklist is complete.

I use it all the time thanks to you. I even cheat when i fly for a airliner that doenst has it by default and turning it on 😅

Since converting from the Embraer 190 to the A320, the VSD is something I miss. Does the B777 have this feature, or is it something retrofitted to 737 and standard only on newer Boeings (787/777X)…?
@airflo_muc Жыл бұрын
VSD is not available in the B777, unfortunately.
@A330Driver Жыл бұрын
The 777X will get the VSD, but the "777 classic" does not have it.

Very interesting. I had figured out a lot but for instance, I didn't know what the green dot or the dashed blue lines were indicating. What are the white and yellow brackets for?
@laofeng3770 Жыл бұрын
Here is the translation of the explanation about the VSD (Vertical Situation Display) function for the Boeing 738 aircraft into English: The green dot indicates that when the aircraft reaches its current position, the speed will reduce to the speed you have set. There are three possible states: (1) Green dot: It signifies that the aircraft can achieve the speed you've set when it reaches the green dot's position. (2) Green circle: Indicates that the aircraft cannot attain the speed you've set. (3) Slowly flashing green circle or no display at all: This means it's impossible to reach your desired speed. The two blue dashed lines represent the width of the area indicated by the VSD. Since the VSD is a lateral view, the width cannot be seen directly. Therefore, two blue dashed lines are used to depict its width. The white and yellow arcs represent altitudes for instrument meteorological conditions and visual meteorological conditions, respectively. One is at 1000 feet, and the other is at 500 feet. When you reach these altitudes, the aircraft must be in a stable condition (a stable approach state). Otherwise, you must go around. This serves as the threshold for deciding whether to go around or not. This is the second explanation of the VSD in this channel. If you refer to the previous videos, you will find a lot of useful information.

Isn't EGPWS also based on barometric altitude? So there shouldn't be any difference to the synthetic terrain and runway, as here shown in PMDG, Haven't tried that on real plane or LvD sim though.
@A330Driver Жыл бұрын
The terrain map is based on BARO altitude, the runway symbol on the VSD however isn't. That's what makes the VSD such a great tool.
