Thank you so much for featuring the Tanduay Fire Station. Brought back good memories! My Dad was a Captain in the Manila Fire Dept. He was stationed here during the 1950's. The bright red ladder truck was very long! They needed two firemen to drive the truck. One in front and one at the back. The 2 drivers needed to coordinate quite well esp when maneuvering street corners when turning. My Dad used to drive the back stirring wheel. It was very challenging, he used to say. Beside the truck was the sliding pole. So the firemen could easily board the fire truck during fire emergencies. Hopefully, you could also feature the Intramuros Fire Station. This was in front of the old ABS CBN building in the early 1960s.

Thanks for this vlog. Been abroad for 17 yrs. Those 2 places are very memorable to me. I did my first year college in National Teachers College in 1992 and became a Female Fire Officer/ Paramedic in Tanduay Fire Station in 1995-1996. Nothing special inside the station. Just an old fireman’s barracks and old fire station. Though, memories with colleagues and fire responses in Manila was fun and fulfilling.

The structure survived WWII miraculously. The lower part is all bricks while the upper is all wood including the flooring. If you are at the ground level you can easily hear footsteps and other noise from the second floor. I experienced living in a similar structure in Manila. The basketball court on the right side is where the late PBA great Danny Florencio used to practise during his younger years. Danny was born in Quiapo and eventually played for UST. That court is also the favorite tambayan of gents waiting for female students of NTC.

We really enjoy your Noon at Ngayon series. For us who grew up in Manila in the 70s, ang sarap panoorin ang pamamasyal mo sa paligid ng Manila. Lalo na ngayong may pandemic na risky pa rin lumabas, watching your vlogs ay parang nakakapamasyal na rin kami. So continue doing that. Ignore the bashers. We appreciate na hindi lang yung mismong topic for the day ang pinapakita mo but yung paglalakad mo to go there ay nakaka-relax at enjoy panoorin. Even your drone shots, it gives us an aerial view na di karaniwang makikita when you are on ground. Your Noon and Ngayon series is a big supplemental source for students especially architecture students. I hope lahat ng sulok ng Manila ay ma-explore at ma-vlog mo before exploring other Metro Manila cities. Ang daming hidden gems na dinadaan-daanan lang ng karaniwang tao, yun pala ay very rich in history. Example is the house of Nakpil & Gregoria De Jesus in Quiapo that you featured. We did not know it existed before and pwede rin pala pasyalan at pasukin pag weekends. Sana government will take efforts in preserving these sites. Hindi na kailangan pumunta ng mga Pinoy sa probinsya just to see heritage sites. Sa Manila lang, ang dami na pala. Continue what you are doing. You are contributing to education and also to tourism.

I'm glad you're doing fire stations. A few weeks ago you did a piece after the fire at the Metropolitan Theater and ever since I've been wondering about what's being done to protect all these historical buildings from fires (accidental or otherwise). After termites and weather damage, fire is the greatest enemy of any old building. In all your walkabouts I haven't seen a single fire hydrant, fire extinguisher, or even a sprinkler system in or near the structures. I vote for more videos like this.

Salamat sa pag feature nito!. I used to go to school along Mendiola for Elementary and HS a long time ago. Ironic lang na ang fire station na ito ay fire hazard na. Hindi ba posibleng ma -maintain para hindi ito madaling matupok? Nakakalungkot din na ang lumang fire engine ay hindi na preserve (well, it's still there but dirty and neglected ) to be shown to as a historical item. Shout out sa City of Manila Fire Chief/ Superintendent .Sana ay tingnan muna ang mga Fire stations and make sure na safe ang mga ito. Looking forward to your videos ----it's like I'm back home!

Across the Tanduay Fire Station is The National Teachers College where I spent my elementary and high school days. Noong elementary kami kapag may nag-aaway and we want to settle it outside the school premises, maghahamunan kami ng, "Bumbero tayo!" And that would mean, sa may vacant area kami ng Tanduay Station pagsusuntukan.
