I live with this every day of my life as a detailer. People give me the keys to six figure cars and say see you in a few days. Many years ago, I would be so nervous with some cars, I would literally sleep at the shop until it left. I’ve gotten over that over the years, but it’s a different kind of stress when something rare and loved and owned by someone other than you is in your care.

Great story - always great to hear there are more conscientious people out there! I had a little old lady run over my motorcycle (my ONLY means of transportation at the time) while I was inside a store late one evening. When I came outside, and was freaking out at the sight of it on its side, broken case cover leaking oil (etc.) - I saw a tiny slip of paper under my fuel filler key-flap - it was a note, with her number. I called her and she said she went in the store trying to find me, and felt awful that she didn't and had to leave. She paid for all the damages and then some!

It’s funny because I wear a zirc wedding band with wood liner. I feel like this ring looks even better after seeing so much wear and tear. But that’s a ring, not a show piece. I’m in metal fan so it makes contact with steel and aluminum constantly. It also sees a lot of wear and tear from the bars at the gym.

I sent my knives to the apostle P, at the time he was selling knives for people and doing work on others, I had both knives for sale and work for him in the package. So what he did not sell and the knives he worked on got sent back to me. When I got the box it was open and there wasn’t a knife in it. I called him to let him know what had happened and he called me a liar. Watch who you deal with in the knife world. He lost all of his godliness when I told him what happened, he went from Apostle to sailor. Last time I ever dealt with him, just a warning y’all.

Do hope whom ever this gentleman is sees this an contacts u putting ur mind at ease. But fully can understand the worry and stress something like this can cause. Unfortunately not many in todays world believe in respect and honor to those around u and ur word is actually good for something. It’s a sign of maturity and growth to be how u are rt now upset on this story. I don’t know u personally but from what have seen in the knife community that I only watch thru but no one has had a bad word to say about you and it def seems with as many videos u put out a lot of people trust you with their many hundred to thousands of dollars worth of stuff. As they say don’t go off what people tell you but what they show u and it obvious that u have shown u are trust worthy. So like say hopefully that sees this video and puts ur mind at ease that all is truly good and he didn’t feel that way or if he did think that way u we’re trying to get one on him that things can no be hashed. No matter how hard we try to do the rt things or be the best we can unfortunately one can not. We all make mistakes and screw up time to time. It’s how u handle that adversity in life that makes u a better person or worse as time goes on.

So i politely asked him what his dream knife was and then spent the next three days on the phone trying to locate one. $3000 and a plane ticket later i had the knife he dreamed about but i still felt terrible for dropping his custom. Friend met me at his apartment parking lot to show off his new knife. handed me his brand new ProTech Mordax in the box. He must have handed it to me upside down, it was already out of the pouch. I opened the box. The knife jumped out (thanks gravity!) and straight onto the asphalt. Dings and dents aplenty. 20 minutes later I was the proud owner of an effed up mordax at full retail price.

Richard that really is a rough one. I understand what you mean about it haunting you for years after. I had a similar issue with 2 of Lou’s (Long Island Knife Guy) Chavez’s. I was in a hurry to ship them back because he had sold them while I had them. He had been waiting for days and I was tied up with work and couldn’t make it to the PO 3 days in a row before they closed. 4th attempt, I made it literally Right As the lady was walking to lock the door. She allowed me in and asked me to please make it fast because she had to pick up her daughter. So I hurriedly packaged them up and slip them into the small priority box. I was gifting him a couple of hanks as well and so I put them in as well and off they went ……..😮. I was relatively new to the knife shipping world at the time (4-5 years ago) and I didn’t think about how violent they are to these packages. Well when the knives arrived I got a less than enthusiastic call from my buddy Lou telling me that the knives had slipped out of my crappy packaging job and the thumb stud on one knife had severely damaged the ano on the frame of the other. I was mortified 🤦🏼‍♂️ I felt like such an idiot. I told him I would do anything he wanted to fix the issue and save our friendship. I will buy them both for whatever your number is. I will pay to have them repaired. Anything. He opted to send them off to be polished and a new anodizing done. I paid to have it done and everyone was happy. We are still buddy’s , I learned my lesson and now Lou and I have a story to tell at the dinner table at Blade Show every year. Lol. Which we do.

A few years ago when I got my truck (2001 ram) within the first month of it being on the road it was hit twice in a parking lot. One of them put a nice crease in the drivers side fender. The other one hit my rear bumper so hard the mounts for it bent into the bottom of my bed denting it. While it is a 20yo pickup its body was in damn good shape (especially for being in NY) and looking at it the previous 2 owners to me probably put about $10k of work into it (and I put $2k)

I was asked to house/pet-sit for my friend's aunt so she could go out of town to see her newest grandchild for the first time. She had two dogs, one of which had heart problems. I went to the lady's house the day before so she could show me where the meds were and kinda go over the schedule. I followed all of her instructions, had a few beers, made a pizza, and watched an LSU baseball game. The next morning I woke up to a dead dog splayed out on the living room rug. That was a hard phone call to make. But, like your guy, she was understanding. She was more worried about me and kept apologizing to have put me in that position. I offered to bury the dog, and she told me where she wanted her buried; she just asked that I remove her collar and leave it on the kitchen island. I see Ms. Candy every now and again at the grocery store or gas station, and every time I do I'm reminded of the concept of grace and compassion.

Making a whole video explaining something that happened that only you and a handful of other people even remember. Were the same in that aspect. A stone thought to be left unturned will eat at me forever until I do something about it. Even if it is irrelevant. Selling knives on Facebook, I can't believe the things people will do to sleeze their way into something. Facebook knife groups, minus a couple, have deterred me away from a few different ways I handle knife etiquette I shall call it. Just the other day I had a guy try to Weasel the price down on a brand new, BRAND NEW CRK, that I was already selling at the price I bought it for brand new. I bought it, decided I didn't need it as I already have a user of that knife. I tried to cancel the order, but it was already shipped. I don't sell knives for profit. Even if they are brand new i would sell them for cheaper than i bought it. Not this certain CRK though. Then he wanted me to ship it and withhold the money until he got it, because "He didn't know me". He had "vouches" though so i should trust him, but so did I. His vouchers though did not have his name on them anywhere, where mine was a clear conversation, name and all, of previous sales i had. Just like you said about asking someone to sell their knife and they say No, they mean No. If I set a price and you try to lower it, and I say No, don't ask again. I always offer to talk, send pics, videos, phone chat, or video call, to talk about the knife and sale as well. I don't care to do that. I want people to feel at ease with a sale as I would want. I want them to know, or turn around after the sale and think "Hey, I can trust this guy. Yeah he's good to go. He's a cool dude". Because that's what we're all here for. For our love of knives. Not to screw people over and then have your named dragged through the shit water. That's not what I'm here for anyways. I know there are people out there that will do anything for a quick buck. Karma will get them. Can't escape karma.

The mark of a true man is extreme ownership. Yes that's from Jocko. But anyone who does not abdicate their responsibilities and makes things right takes part in that kind of ownership. It's not easy but it's right. More often than not people will accept and forgive when you're brutally honest with them. Deceiving and misdirecting only put salt in those wounds. Having said that, at the end of the day it's just stuff. Even priceless, irreplaceable things are just stuff. When you die, it becomes someone else's stuff. It no longer has the same value it did because that value was sentimental. Impossible to replicate within someone else. So never get too attached to things and be more attached to how you treat one another! Also, AVN is the best! I'm so amused you were watching him, of all people, when this happened 🤣 Definitely brings some levity to such a dreadful happening.

Got a Spyderco Kapara awhile back. First time carrying it, I was at work finger flicking it and it flew out of my hands onto the desk. Chipped the blade. Oops. My bad. Oh well, I paid for it, I gotta live with it. Can't imagine doing that to someone else's knife. Props to you, MC, for being an awesome human being.

Real knife guys are 100% cool with each other. The best people you can meet. That being said...there is a lot of money in play. So it attracts vermin. Being OVERLY cool and honest is how you show you are in the club and know someone else is.

Man, you have no idea how angry I get when I see your CKF FIF20 with the moku-ti bolsters. I saved up for a month and sold one of my Seiko Monsters in order to purchase that knife just to have it gone when I got the money together for it. since then I've only came across 1 (was about 2 months after 1 I wanted sold) and the goofy dude wanted $1800 for it. no way in hell am I paying $1800 for a knife that was less than $900 new.
