Love the Ducati. My first motorcycle was a 1964 Ducati Bronco 125 cc. I got it in 1965 when I was 16 years old. I wish I still had that little Duck.

The Ducati is a real credit to the owner. I took my test on a similar Ducati 175cc, I think. It was borrowed as my Tiger Cub had blown the big end. Another friend had a 250 and yes they were fast. The thing that always impressed me was the quality of the engineering, although the 6v direct lighting didn't impress at all.

That Norton of yours Mike, is just a pleasure to hear. Simply gobsmacking really. Reminds me of a lovingly kept old aircraft, there is just nothing like in it the way, as you say, you have managed so far to iron out the wrinkles. That choice you remarked on, between British engineering and German, must come down to those nostalgic moments when at a stop light on a British bike you need to customarily check the carbys while giving it a couple of good handfuls, and for the Beemer, the subtle sound of that big flywheel whirring away under load as you either accelerate, but definitely, when slowing down under power.

That's a fine ride, some beautiful scenery, and the Ducati is gorgeous. My first street bike, legal, registered and all, was a 250 Ducati. I walked by the "classic car showroom" on my way home from work, dropped off money every week for months, and finally rode it out, no plate, license, just the joy of almost riding on the street, legally. They are great bikes, I was the youngest of riders in my group in about 73, and was able to keep up with a Bonnie, Norton and Harley of my friends. I wish I still had all the bikes I loved. My Triumph just let me walk last week, I think bad coils, I will sort that out, you always take us on some beautiful back roads, lots of green, Thanks, Mike!

Your "mighty Garage" provided incentive to buy the Bonnie, this year, and I expect to have it well set up and reliable before the year's end. I spent a decade caring for my wife, bedridden, and she's been at rest two years, I am just getting back on the road having left it behind when she got sick. I've missed "having a gang" of friends to ride with. We were married 36 good years.

Hi Mike every time I watch one of your videos it makes me realise why I love classic motorcycles so much, the variety and sound of them is fantastic, unfortunately my 68 Daytona is of the road, a little end bush failed, and when I stripped it down I discovered the engine had been put together badly, so I’m rebuilding it with all brand-new parts, I want it right this time, should be back on the road the middle of August 🤞⚙️🔩🔧 love the video cheers Mike.

@berniebne8243
@berniebne8243 2 жыл бұрын
@@TheMightyGarage When I first arrived in Australia I was involved with the BMW Club. Airheads were the current bike. this was before all the GS hype. I spent a lot of time riding all the late airhead models and the early oil heads. The oilheads with the telelever front suspension & paralever rear suspension are very easy to adapt to. The pre-paralever bikes are great once you understand them much the same as riding a sidecar. Basically, when you roll on the throttle the rear end lifts. So when you brake the rear drops which helps with smooth controlled stops. The trick is cornering. I found it better to brake a little harder going in. Then roll on the throttle early which raised the rear and made the steering angle steeper and that tipped the bike into the corner. The RT touring models had lower gearing which you couldn't easily change. The RS models were geared so that at the 100kmh speed limit the engine was sitting on the sweet spot (RPM). The side to side rocking at tickover you just got used to it. A lot of people added a 2nd spark plug which along with less ignition advance & a stronger ignition coil increased power by about 20% with no loss of mpg. Some cylinder heads cracked so beware. Sorry, I've gone on a bit Mike but they are much-misunderstood bikes. A twin plugged R80 was smooth as and would hold 100mph all day long, on the race track of course.

Hi Malcolm, thanks very much for your note. Yes, I'm certain that the "green dot" speedo and rev counter our original. They are also the same on both Commandos, which are both from 1974. Best wishes, Mike

Hi Mike, one more great video! Riding bikes and meeting friends are the best things in life! Who is the guy with the BSA ROCKET at 6" and 10:54"? Did he ever came or had/has any relations to Brazi? He has the Brazilian flag at his jacket's right elbow! Thank you once again! Cheers!
