It’s not just that Sanji is afraid to go after his dream, he feels like he owes Zeff too much to leave him, and Zeff feels his sacrifice is going to waste because Sanji won’t leave. There is a resentment born out of how much they care about each other that manifests in antagonism. This happens a lot in real life actually but it is rarely recognized.

To add more to the farewell scene between Sanji and Zeff, they never call each other by name Sanji always call Zeff "sh*tty old man" and Zeff always call Sanji brat or "little eggplant". When they say goodbye they call out each other names so it add more to the feeling and how much they treasure each other.

Not only does Oda write the entire story but he also draws every single panel of the story as well. there is a dimension of story telling that is being lost in the live action and that is the way he also tells the story on a visual level panel after panel, page after page and chapter after chapter. that's why we call him "Goda".

11:36 The backstories of the Straw Hat members become more tragic from here on, (no spoilers!) especially the ones that join after entering the Grand Line. It strengthens their found-family bond as they rely on each other. My mother loves that they become each other’s family. 🥹 Instead of ragtag misfits, she views the Straw Hats as kids who really needed some type of family, & Luffy provides that comfort for them.

One piece back stories are crazy. One of the reasons people refer to Oda as GODa is he actually has back stories for minor characters as well. Even a person that’s only been seen once has a name and a back story, he’ll then later reveal in future chapters that the minor character is related to a recuring character. It’s crazy how he keeps all of these in his head.

Garp's name is Monkey D Garp, so lots of people in this world would know his full name since he's pretty famous among pirates as a vice admiral chasing them so I would think thats how Mihawk knew Luffy was his grandson since they share the same family name. In japan, family names are first.

Oda's wife is Chiaki inaba an actress and model. If you look her up I 100% believe you'll see a bit of Nami. It's a great thing. Oda's the goat and doesn't bend to pressure from outside sources which is why this Netflix adaptation is so great compared to other anime live actions.

If you want to avoid passing the LA version in the Anime, stop when they teach Logue Town. It was originally planned to be the end of season 1 in LA, so season 2 will pick up there. This first season did an excellent job condensing nearly 100 chapters from manga into 8 episodes, so there will be plenty of differences between LA and anime versions to keep you suprised. Its also the sort of story that becomes even better on a rewatch, due to all the foreshadowing and world building. There is a short filler arc in east blue anime concerning a girl named Apis. It's a fun watch even if it doesnt relate to the core story.

No spoilers. Eichiro Oda is a genius. One Piece is a true epic, the world-building and characters are off the charts there are very little number of fictions written in history with so much details and of course such a long running serialization only help it, there are foreshadowing that happened in like chapter 200, that was like 20 years ago and this something can returns back in chapter 900. There are secrets all over the One Piece manga that anime also tries to incorporate. The story is ridiculously goofy and it was one of the main concern how would they translate it into a live-action, they did a great job by decreasing goofiness. Also, it is really funny, especially Luffy. But, One Piece can get unbelievably hype and emotional as you can already see, and of course, it covers many very real topics from our world that resonate with people and make the story even more alive, especially as dreams and freedom are the core idea of One Piece.

This live action really did good showing whats good about the series. Of course the anime and manga go deeper into each stories and have tons more character involve but the maker of the live action clearly a fan of One Piece and it shows. I believe if they continues this series with love like this, One Piece could be a gigantic franchise that could rival starwars and marvels. If they stick with the source material and keep having Oda involve this could be the next big thing. But thats the thing can Hollywood stop themselves from changing future seasons inserting their own messaging and agenda into it. Changing someone's mind is a nifty power but thinking about it it is a double edged sword. It is similar to Luffy except Luffy would rather have someone make up their own mind and hopefully see an error with what they're doing and not to take away their freedom to choose for themselves. Again yes, there are many obvious things that are evil/bad in the world that would lead to consequences of war and conflict but changing someone's mind without them retrospectively or without hindsight won't let them build a strong foundation of the consequences of those actions. Maybe a power similar like to allow a person to see into the future consequences of their actions might be more in line?

Regarding Luffy somebody that started the Anime after the Live Action said he was "so much meaner" and dumber than in the LA and they liked the LA better. The thing is, Luffy Manga/Anime doesnt directly talk about dreams, sometimes he talks about "goals" or "what you want to do". We discover how Luffy IS as the manga chapters advanced, truth to be told he was my least fav character at the begining of OP. As he grow in the anime and Manga, he becomes more like the LA Luffy. The showrrunners of the show just condensed and Speedrunned his escense to make him more accesible, condensed and palatable to a wider audience. Judging by the reaction of the first time "reactors" they did well. But it can be some of a shock if you guys come to the LA to Anime/manga (i find Manga better than the anime, sorry) Anyway, I would suggest to watch the "One Pace" version of the anime, which cuts filler that makes no sense in universe and deviates bit from the original material (manga) and of course doesnt appear in the live action.

All first time watchers/readers of One Piece always say it's so goofy, wacky and cartoony. They can't get pass that goofiness and wackiness and just give up watching because of that. They don't like the artsyle animation whatsoever, they really are missing out on a great storytelling a very compelling, thrilling and very emotional series. Yes it has very common tropes in anime and manga and all that, but One Piece really hits different from all the other manga/anime series. I have been a long time anime fan ever since, but nothing beats One Piece by the sheer level of its worldbuilding and the emotional aspects hits you right in the feels.

If you do watch the anime, the sub version is WAY better than the dub version. No hate to the English voice actor/actresses who do luffys voice, but sometimes some find luffys english voice really annoying. Plus you dont want to miss out on the amazing Japanese voice actors. Buggys (Japanese) voice actor is so freaken funny! Hes the reason buggy is my favorite OP character, who is not a straw hat.

I'm gonna say something polemic: I prefer the Luffy from the live action. I think he's deeper (in heart and mind) than the one from the anime. The Luffy from the anime is more impulsive, but still a great character. This Luffy is an enhanced version! Besides that, I need to say: One Piece is my favorite show ever too!
