It's a shame that she had to experience so many painful revelations regarding Kuma's life in order to get there. I mean, she saw the celestials shoot Kuma's dad in front of him after he learned his mom was dead. She saw the events surrounding her birth. She saw her father's sacrifice. This is the saddest thing I've ever seen in fiction. Oda is wild.

A 10 year old child who, up until very recently, had been terminally ill and not allowed to leave the church. A few people on Reddit brought up some really good points. Bonney's fruit is a lot like Luffy's in that it runs on imagination. And for her to have eaten it at her age is absolutely perfect, because she's at the point in her life where she can essentially imagine any kind of future she wants for herself. Or anyone else. Obviously powerful enough Haki negates the effect, but still.

Though the ability to imagine any kind of future for other people sounds more like the awakend form if the fruit. So far we've only seen her using that ability on herself and only aging up or down other people. Now I imagine Bonny countering Luffy's aging after using G5 and using distorted future on herself so St. Garcia now has to fight basically 2 Nika's lol.

And probably to her mom, too? I mostly got the idea of her being able to use Distorted Future on other people based on when she aged Luffy up into an old man, and he was in his "bad future" state. But then that was probably just a visual gag. Either way, really neat ability, she's got a lot of potential to get really strong after some more time training.

For comparisons sake we know parenting in the west is already revealing that parents are getting sick of these creepy gender teachers trying to encourage kids to "transition" before they've even hit puberty.

Dragon’s comment about children being a parent’s weakness makes complete sense. It’s always been clear that Dragon cares about Luffy. Why do you think his first spoken line is “A pirate, eh? Not a bad idea”? Dragon is sacrificing everything he cares about for the safety of the world. That’s what makes him so interesting and why I want his backstory. It was great to see Stussy and Stella talking and to see more of who Stussy really is. Also, Alpha can go to hell! That scene with Kuma, Stella, and Stussy talking about writing Bonney nearly made me cry. And I’m not a crier. I like Bonney saying "Give me a ______ future". I would love it if from here on Distorted Future had sub-names like "Distorted Future: Buccaneer" or "Distorted Future: Nika”. Prediction: Bonney is going to tell Luffy the true name of his devil fruit because she knows about the rubbery body. I don’t know if this is a Hot Take or not because I love this backstory and Kuma is now my second favorite One Piece character but I’m ready to get back to the main story.

For that last point of Luffy learning the true name of his fruit, I think that alone will be a huge powerup for it. Right now Luffy is constantly pumping himself with Haki in gear 5, causing him to get exhausted and collapse. Yet Chopper, who has shown no signs of Haki, is able to use his Zoan Transformations no problem. Luffy learning that Gear 5 is just a Zoan Transformation will allow him to use it for significantly longer periods of time, because the Haki usage can be toggled freely. And when he realizes that there is basically no time limit to gear 5...

But still I feel like he could have done more than he did o understand not going after Ginny, but Luffy at 17 invaded and burn down enies lobby to save Robin, then the same in Impel down to save Ace. If Kuma started acting strange after reaching Vegapunk as a friend I feel like Dragon should have done something, u let a woman who you called friend be kidnaped and rapped by the celestials couldn't he just reach out to Kuma just to understand what's going on? They could set up a trap for dragon or attack his home base. Same with Ginny. He couldn't go to the castle because he knew what was up there. He knew that if he tried he'd die and then there would be no one to fight. I want to believe he hates himself for not rescuing Ginny but he knew what that mission would cost. He might even be aware of the gods knights

@@glcsander A small group of mavericks can charge headfirst into a suicide mission if they have the guts and determination for it, no matter the cost or reward, but it’s significantly more difficult to convince an army to do the same, no matter how righteous the cause. Large armies are large, unwieldy, and necessary to assault fortifications like Mariejois. They also can’t ram down the front door and wildly rampage until the enemy leadership hits the floor the way that the Strawhats do it. If Dragon could do it like that, then he’d definitely do it.

Dragon pretty much has kept his family connections and interests a secret so that no one knows who he is. People think he does not have a soul because they do not expect him to care for anybody. Even those in the RA might not know his full past. All they know is he is a good person to hang out with and a leader with focus and commitment. Dragon was very clever in setting things up so that Luffy wouldn't be a hostage against him. He "abandoned" Luffy and made it so he was "the grandson of Garp the Hero" and not "the son of Dragon". The WG would have a hard time being seen as in the "right" without buster calling the entire Island away to eliminate eye witnesses of the assassination of a kid who is a relative of the world's "HERO".

In the next chapter it will be revealed to us what the reason was behind kuma's actions towards the straw hats. This chapter shows the point in the story where Kuma decides to keep an eye after his friends son, because he can not look after own daughter. Another moment that shows how good of a person Kuma was. That would explains why he helped the Straw hats mutiple times and even protected the Sunny after giving up his consiousness.

Something interesting that I thought about in relation to Bonney's devil fruit powers: If the first explanation is true, if it's the case that the future is unwritten and therefore she can simply tap into any one of her possible futures when she ages up, then it would likely be the case that her devil fruit is actually much stronger when it is eaten by someone young. Young people have many more possible futures ahead of them than older people, simply because they have more time remaining in their natural lifespan. So Bonney people so young could also be a reason why her devil fruit seems really strong right now. But if an old person ate that same devil fruit, they might not even be able to do a distorted future at all, because all of their futures are so similar to how they are currently (like if their remaining lifespan was only 5 years, how much could you possibly deviate from your current self in just 5 years if you're already 80 years old?).

Good news is that Bonney got to see how much her dad loved her when she looked at his memory bubble. So in the end she did get the letters but in the form of her dad's memories rather than the letters themselves. Tekking your idea of the letters getting more robotic and shorter as he loses his humanity reminds me of Brooks and Crew's final song how the song gets quieter as the members die off until only Brook is left. That is definitely something Oda would do.

Dragon is right, they would definitely attempt something like that, but Garp would potentially hunt down every CP agents from 1 to Aegis 0 until he found out which one fucked his grandson over. He put up with Ace's execution because Ace was already a infamous criminal, and that was consequence of Ace's direct actions, yet Garp was ready to kill Akainu the second after. Imagine a Government agent threatening a Luffy that has not even left Dawn Island yet, who's done nothing even though he is dead set in becoming a pirate. Yeah, that CP agent is more dead than the one who was sent to interrupt Kaido v Luffy. Galaxy Impact to the face and pick up the tiny pieces of brain matter in the next island over. And then he'd smack Luffy for being so much of an idiot that he let himself get captured.

Luffy has connections much more dangerous than Liam Neeson. Imagine an alternate universe where Arlong killed Luffy. Then 1 month later 4 individuals will meet up by chance to avenge Luffy and do a much more intimidating "walk to Arlong Park" Shanks, Garp, Dragon, and Ace. So, a thought comes to my mind. Did Bonney get her bounty for a similar reason Robin did? Not because she actually committed enough crimes to warrant it, but because she was a dangerous individual to let be free out on the seas? Because not a lot of time has passed for her to really rack up a bigger bounty than Zoro. And it would make perfect sense to say that Bonney being held as ransom for Kuma, who's mind was not entirely gone yet, is a huge risk for the Marines. And I would say Bonney being free on the ocean for anyone to catch would be more dangerous than a kid from an island of archeologists who has no powers at that point and no theoretical way of finding all the poneglyphs without being discovered/stopped by the Marines somewhere along the way.

I'm sure the World Government is going to spin this in a way that blames Bonney and Kuma for this, but Jewelry Bonney seems to really be the fault of Alpha and whoever gave her those orders. Something as simple as sharing Kuma's letters and letting her go once Kuma was transformed could probably have prevented her escape to piracy.
