Branch 101 Performance Review #30: Kai: Literally hot-footed over lava pipe to assist Raj. Surprisingly strong, can carry Commodore Jiro by himself. Elated to see Commodore Jiro back to his usual self. Belle: Had a hard time getting out of the lava pipe. Bradley Briggs: Shut the valves of the lava pipes. Made a pathway for Heather to escape from the lava. Fell for Jeopard's cake trick, devastating. Yokan: Learned the hard way that you can't strike the acupoints of a man inside a robotic shell. Grateful to Damian for saving Commodore Jiro. Starstruck by Commodoro Jiro, by his presence and the fact he remembers her from 10 years ago. Damian: Packed a much heavier punch after getting his eyes cleaned, precise strikes like he has Six Eyes. Got back at the puppeted Commodore Jiro for blinding him by burning out the armor's optic sensors. I don't know how to explain it, but his Jeopard impression is better at sounding like Jeopard than Jeopard's actual voice. Choppa: Cleaned off the inky gunk blinding Damian :D Finished off the suit puppeting Commodore Jiro \(☆▽☆)/ Taiga Kibbleton: Ailing. Gasping for air. Struggling to live. Not doing Taigatastic. Anchor Arms: Came face-to-face with Commodore Jiro, pleaded for forgiveness concerning his crimes, an understanding has been reached. Raj: Came incredibly close to death. Heather: Saved Damian's life, enabling him to make the key contributions to breaking the armor puppeteering Commodore Jiro. CASUALTY REPORT: Yokan: Rendered unconscious by a Jiro katana slash, returned to fighting condition via a Damian "Sour Patch". Briefly fainted after receiving praise from Commodore Jiro. Blunt force trauma wound from a Black Knight armor slam. Damian: Rendered unconscious by a Jiro katana slash, returned to fighting condition via Heather's Devil Fruit ability. Blunt force trauma wound from a Black Knight armor cannon blast. Raj: Returned to fighting condition via Heather's Devil Fruit ability. Commodore Jiro: Had the modified Black Knight armor's life support system forcefully torn out of him, survived but barely conscious, returned to fighting condition via Heather's Devil Fruit ability. It’d be cool to see Malice revived in a weird way from her fruit. Her devil/oni fruit is already related to the afterlife. I can envision her going through something similar to the multiple parts of hell from Dante’s inferno to come back (this would fit as narrated or off screen). In the original one piece dnd campaign the Angel fruit literally brought Rick back to life, so I can imagine the devil-devil fruit to have that kind of power in a more self serving way. Malice WARNED Damien about the consequences of giving his armor to the higher ups. It’d be too perfect for her to call Damien out on it!

I desperately need Kai and Jiro to have a 1 on 1 conversation by the end of this arc. Yokan has gotten some great development this arc, and Damian is being set up for some good character development, but Kai had the Joy and Kip thing and nothing since, and I feel like this could really be his moment to highlight his arc and what makes him special and different from William or Anthony.

This is unacceptable. Y'all need to get a server or that mod that allows you to treat a single player world as a server and do some One Piece Minecraft with Tekking. They've got mod packs that'll give you Devil Fruits and Haki and OP Race options along side extra weapons and food options and even free building ships that are pilotable. I think he'd enjoy it. And if you can, you can turn it into content too.

Pretty nice episode. Good to see them managing to rescue Jiro and how they handled the lava pipes of doom. Robots/cyborgs at the end kinda slowed things down but in hindsight better a cliffhanger with them than with Gus. Rather than give my pros and cons of this episode I think I will just make pros and cons of the arc in general (episodes 27 to 30). These are just my opinions and please do not see any (probably subjective) cons as hurtful or anything and hopefully my pros balance them out. *Pros* 1. I liked how the crew chooses to get everyone who is not a pirate off the boat. Including Mako. I hope they point his Bigfoot Zoan at the enemy and it smashes some bad guy skulls or something. 2. I liked how the snuck towards the factory with pass without trace and even if Damien rolled low and was spotted, he used alter self to disguise himself as Gus. I like how despite looking much different than Gus in body and size it still worked showing how stupid/wonky their AI is. 3. Jeopard is easily the best part of this arc and he isn’t even on the island. Him being a hammy Macho Man Randy Savage as an evil scientist is great and the fact that he admits to doing evil on the thinnest of pretenses makes him disturbingly honest compared to other baddies. Plus he has an awesome Snail companion who I hope Damien adopts one day as his own. Jeopard just goes to show that characters improvised at the last minute can become super memorable. Especially since Jeopard is the closest the campaign has to a Big Bad so far. 4. The party has been doing good against bosses way to tough for most level 7-8’s should deal with. Especially since Malice and Jiro had like +14 or so to and do oodles of damage. They handled Malice well enough and Damian’s analysis of Jiro really helped against him. Congrats to the players. 5. The NPC gang seem to be doing well so far. Raj has been pulling his weight, Heather has rolled at least two nat 20s so far and probably has other tricks up her sleeves, Anchorarms got new metal arms to “anchorfy” and Taiga may or may not be mutating. Honestly have no idea what’s up with him. Though I imagine a lesser restoration “spell” wouldn’t help him. 6. I like how Bradley helped saved both Heather and Belle from the lava pipe. He not only made a clear path for Heather but saved Belle in the nick of time too before closing the pipes. Fast hands is super handy. 7. I enjoy Jiro a lot. He got a cool fruit, sick design and fishing puns galore. Plus he seems super strong and useful. Hopefully his accuracy improves next episode. Plus his design looks sick with his blue hair, yellow eyes and gold tooth. 8. The interactions with Raj and Damien are nice to see. Great to see two of the more stoic characters in the campaign open up to one another about themselves. *Cons* 1. I’m not sure how Commodore Gus became a Vice Admiral in just a week or so. Rear Admiral I can easily believe but Vice Admiral is pushing my suspension of disbelief unless you’re like hinting that he stole credit for most of his accomplishments or something. The promotion comes across as kinda contrived otherwise. Especially since we’ve never seen him do more than pick up some armor in the West Blue. 2. Commodore Gus I find kinda eh as a villain. He’s not doing crimes to support downtrodden orphans like Malice, not a zealot of human supremacy like Hugh Man, not a Mythical Zoan collector like Tavrock and not a hammy (Mad?) scientist like Jeopard. And judging by how it’s no secret his Devil Fruit is fungus-based, even his abilities aren’t really much of a spoiler. Gus just kinda comes across as just some belligerent dickhead and arguably a worse person than the likes of Arzen since he doesn’t seem to have much of a reason for turning his own Navy into near-mindless cyborgs. He seems to have done it for pretty much no reason at all other than being an antagonist. Not much motivation or even cool factor with him. Though maybe we’ll learn his motive next episode. But I wouldn’t be surprised if my reaction of him is intentional on your part. 3. The common black armor fights are kind of a slog. A lot of it is just the party missing a bunch of hits thanks to their 18 AC and the armors hitting for a fair chunk of their hit points per hit thanks what I guess to be a 24 or so Strength score (judging by attack rolls and strength saves). Add that the armors were stripped of any personality/quirks of their own, it makes the half hour or so fights come across as kinda episode filler. Adding little but subtracting time and resources. But I guess that’s just minions in a nutshell. Especially since they don’t have many ways to exploit the weak Dex score since none of the party really have any Dex Based AOE attacks. 4. The concept of the armors is bleak and depressing, numbing most if not all funny moments with them. It’s too cruel for most crooks and it’s brutally unfair for the Marines who just wanted to do the right thing. Like what are the PCs and Jiro gonna tell the families of these Marines? That their superior officer forced them into armor and starved them in there? Like those marines in their are someone’s son/daughter/non-binary child. It’s hard to find much genuine joy in this arc with that cloud looming over. 5. Speaking of Joy, Malice of the Seven Sisters (Five Sisters now?) was kinda wasted potential. She had such a cool power, badass design, interesting backstory and room to grow. It also isn’t super clear why/how Jeopard got a hold of her and if her being forced into armor and brought there was a coincidence or not. So her being on the Grand Line in Black Armor kinda came out of nowhere. Hopefully she doesn’t just become an afterthought or anything because she was probably one of the more interesting OPDND characters you made this campaign. 6. This may or may not be an issue, but the gang fought 2 boss-level foes (who each hit harder than Balors and Storm Giants with legendary actions too) in a row as well as 2 groups of common black armors (so far). That is a lot for a group of level 8 PCs (especially one without a beefy tank or cleric/paladin). I’m not sure of their hit dice or spell slots at the moment but they are likely pretty beaten up, as is possibly Jiro and other NPCs. Especially if Gus has similar stats to Jiro and Malice. I sort of worry this might be heading towards a similar route as what happened last arc leading to another Long Rest Debate if things get too dire. Especially since this time the crew could possibly just sail away and rest (even call Bailey to warn her), giving them much less of a reason to continue on forwards. Though that too might be intentional on your part and you planned those possibilities ahead of time. Fingers crossed it won’t end up happening anyways. Overall, that is my general opinions on the arc (so far). I liked the Sisters, Hito pirates and Myth Pirates arcs better, but this is about as good as Marine Hunters arc. I’m glad your computer is fixed and I hope to see what happens next. Hopefully the party can defeat Gus and wrap the arc cleanly. Fungus douche left quite a mess they’ll have to fix. Also be nice to Zane. He is a pure soul.
