Sani's backstory was amazing and pulled me all in to the manga. Sanji thought he owed Zeff so much, he striped Zeff's everything, his leg, his dream, his pirate life so Sanji gave up his own to fulfil Zeff another dream (to build a restaurant in the sea so that when someone needed a meal in the middle of the sea they could find one because the sea is tough). Live action fucked up the arlong park arc and did not include some memorable characters such as jango and hachan, but it improved buggy, improved syrop village arc overall and also cut fucking kreig from baratie, which is good change of the arc. And also pacing in anime is shit compared to this live action season, so, i cannot even say that anime is better. Zeff and Sanjis relationship is so well done. Two people that care about each other deeply but grow increasingly antagonistic towards each other as times goes on because of HOW much they care. Sanji owes Zeff his life and feels like leaving him would be a betrayal because of his sacrifice, Zeff loving Sanji but believing that him staying is a betrayal of the sacrifice he made so Sanji could follow his dream. It is a shockingly good portrayal of how a relationship can turn toxic even when both people are committed to the others happiness. Some great lessons there.

Something to notice with Sanji is he will never use his hands because he needs to keep them clean for cooking! That’s why Sanji (Taz) is so adapt at using his legs and feet.

Also Zeff does (or did) the same. Sanji got his fighting style from him. (Even their epithets mirror that - "Red Leg" and "Black Leg"). Another reason why cutting of his own leg was a mayor decision beyond the bodily harm for Zeff.
@KalyoTube Жыл бұрын
@@j.ackermann9110yeah and it kinda made sense that during the starvation he clearly points out that he is done and retiring and passing the hat to sanji when he decided to cut off his leg means he's done being a fighter and that's why he shoots arlong with a gun a s chef and owner of the baratie and not as a pirate.

Despite their horrible backstories, they remain true to themselves, and fight for their future...with optimism and no whining and complaining. I mean, Zoro peg Nami's background as spoil rich kid...which is soo far from the truth. Her story is not sun and rainbows, but you almost couldn't tell by how she held herself. Great reaction. As someone who comsumed one piece media for over 2 decads now it is fun to see people experience it for the first time. 😊😊

Dreams are a big deal to Luffy. It’s one of the few things he takes seriously. This is why he doesn’t kill the people he defeats, because from his perspective, ending their dreams is worse than death.

When Luffy said "so was I" when Arlong told him he was expecting some bigger. It was actually a pun, since the Arlong in the Anime was actually taller than the Live Action Arlong.

Seeing people experience the Baratie arc for the first time and suffering from feels--- welcome to the journey, guys! This is no where near the last time that One Piece will hit your heart and mess you up emotionally. In fact the backstories only get more and more depressing as the series goes on.

i can't believe how they managed to capture the same feeling I had when I first watched the anime years ago. Like yall said about feeling like they are your friends and you're a part of the crew. So happy that Oda forced netflix to stay true to the source material.

You'd be surprised how much commentary there is in the Manga/Anime. As goofy and funny and eccentric and plain *weird* the Original is, in addition with racism and slavery it has dealt with gouvernment conspiracies, genocide, war, pandemics, human experimentation and other themes.
@OfficialMediaKnights Жыл бұрын
Love to hear that! When done well commentary can be an incredible tool for storytelling! And thus far they have not disappointed us.

Sanji's backstory (part of it) is most accurately and faithfully done against all others in this series. Everyone else was rushed and shortened/modified due to time/budget constraints. That's why this one hits hardest than any other since those got really watered down in live action. U can only get true essence of all backstories only in anime. The send off part with Zeff was far better in anime though. Here it was just done as a formality Best backstory (according to me) is for one member who is yet to be introduced (next season) who is also considered to be one of the cutest characters ever. I sincerely hope they do Justice to that story and make proper CGI for that character as it is almost impossible to make that character without CGI. Let's wait and see

This was definitely one of the more fleshed out backstories and man did it pay off! What a way to end the episode. Broke our hearts!

I just read that part in manga and I see what you mean.

Agreed. This one backstory hit me the most in the live action because it's the closest to the source material (even more faithful than the anime w/c was crippled by censorship at that time), but Nami's is supposed to be my favorite backstory among the East Blue recruits. Unfortunately, it didn't hit me as much because it lacked some of the more important contextual details that the anime and the manga gave it. It's still good, but not nearly half as good as the anime and manga, imo. They should've added an episode or 2 to flesh that out more because Arlong Park arc is easily the best arc in the East Blue saga, but alas. I'm still satisfied, though. And while Sanji and Zeff's goodbye also managed to make me emotional here (the actors and the music were really selling it), I still got more emotional with the manga/anime goodbye scene because it actually included Sanji's relationship with the entire Baratie crew. Sanji steeling himself as he tried to leave so casually but then immediately breaking down from Zeff's soft "don't get sick out there", then bowing his head as he thanked Zeff for everything, while Zeff just stares at him very fondly had me bawling so damn hard. I do hope they keep 5th recruit's backstory mostly intact in the next season though because that one's actually my favorite backstory amongst the crewmembers. Tears me up just from thinking about it.

@@jagonz70580 u can really see the lack of budget in Arlong Park Arc. Set designs were mid, awful prosthetics of fishmen, even wobbly katana that Zoro uses. I am pretty sure the makers were very unsure how much this show will succeed so they went about it very carefully in budget. Pretty sure will see far more CGI from next seasons with bigger budgets. It has to be since the other members need CGI to make, also the logia powers. With the success this season had, the production quality will get much better from now on and hopefully more fleshed out stories too. I really don't want Arabasta to be done in season 2 itself if they are going with same 8 episodes as that arc itself requires more than 4 episodes atleast. Hopefully will end with intro of Arabasta in next with Little Garden, Whiskey Peak, Drum as main part
@jagonz70580 Жыл бұрын
@@parthachem83 yeah, I figured it's a budget issue rather than a writing issue. But oh well... OPLA is still a pretty good anime live action adaptation. I'm happy we get a 2nd season.

In the manga is super emotional that would make u ball out. Crying during that goodbye scene.. but the live action also interpreted it with almost the same strong emotion.. also kudos to u 2 coz u guys were able to get all the meanings behind it and u guys are very attentive to the small details

My favorite thing: Watching reactors get hit square in the feels by the big emotional beats of One Piece. I was watching one reaction video from a group of dudes who are huge One Piece fans, and they KNEW what was coming, and they still got all moist and runny. One dude just said "GOD I HATE THIS SHOW" as he mopped away the tears. If you haven't watched Episode 7 yet, definitely want to keep the tissues around for that one.

Two more eps, get on with it guys already, kamonnnn love you're reaction, didn't cry at anime, but i did at this sanji zeff moment

i really enjoyed your reactions. especially this episode bcs you get exactly what sanji and zeff is to each other. it's also the episode in which we mostly have the backstory of everyone or at least, we know their motivations so i also really like that you talked about all of that at the end. one of my favorite things you have said is at episode 6, you feel like you're part of the crew. i like that bcs i'm caught up to the latest manga chapters of one piece and i got that same impression, that this is an adventure i'm taking with the straw hat crew, at east blue as well. so i totally get that, and i'm happy the live action really maintained that heart of the one piece that we know about and is able to show you the same feeling we've been through. i hope you'll give yourself a chance to watch the anime as well. the art style might put you off, but i believe it's a creative choice and, well, it's one piece. there's also the manga, if you're also into reading. to end this lengthy comment, haha, welcome aboard to the straw hat pirates' adventure. it's a wild ride, but one that i believe no one regretted to be a part of.

This show is amazing! How they adapted the anime, what they created- chef's kiss. You guy's get the charm, which I appreciate. It's a bit of a shame that they did it right, but b/c of all the failed adaptations, there's still some bias against live action anime adaptations. It's even a bigger shame that some one piece anime fans can't let go of their biases, and b/c of that, they can't feel what they felt before, like how you guys are feeling it right now. Overall, I'm glad it's successful. I hope the marketing ramps up, in a way to get non-anime watchers and judgmental anime fans to let go of their bias and just enjoy the fun and love the show brings.

Kinda love how most commercial Netflix shows have some gorey, adult, cruel storylines majorly catered for adult audiences and then comes a series like One Piece that brings that childhood drive of following your dreams and really unexpected storyline through the series to keep the watchers captured. So uncanny

If there's one thing i could have never prepared to experience emotionally in One Piece manga/anime is it's character's backstory. And the live action did a great job made me reliving that moment even tho i already know what to expect.
