I think Vivi is so gentle and she didn't want any of her friends to get hurt. That was because she tried to head for the rebels army. And Luffy knew that. So he asked her "why you don't risk our lives, despite you risks your life?" (As you know, Vivi already resolved and risked her life to infiltrate the Baroque works.)

I love that chapter because as in the past Luffy learned from Vivi that sometimes you have not to fight, Vivi learns from Luffy that she needs to use her assets and that she alone will achieve nothing. It is in fact a leadership discussion. Luffy is the leader cause it is his pirate crew. But Vivi is also the leader cause they decided to work for her. How to solve the issues is something that needs to be discussed between both of them. So, we had just seen something that by now almost never happened. Luffy is doing his job as captain.

This is actually the second time Luffy punched Vivi. The first was when she was trying to kill Laboon with Mr. 9. Back then, people were like "yeah punch her again!" and now its like "Luffy! Don't punch Vivi! She's a girl!". A matter of perspective. Oh and some more Japanese Trivia. Okama is a term for the Gay community in Japanese. So when Mr. 2 is saying "Oh come my way" here, in Japanese he is saying "Okama way".

The way I interpret Luffy and Vivi's argument, Vivi doesnt want Luffy and the crew to risk their life fighting Crocodile even though she knew he was the mastermind. She knows that Crocodile is one of the 7 warlords of the sea hence Vivi thinks Luffy doesnt stand a chance and doesnt want him to risk his life for the cause. Luffy argued that if she's putting her life on the line, then the Strawhats should as well since they are friends.

BTW I want you two to know: Oda is a big fan of double meanings to things and uses them often. Many of the attack names that Zoro uses in Japanese are that way, for example there's one where he says "Oni kiri" for Demon Hunt (direct translation is Demon Cutting) but it sounds similar to Onigiri which is Rice ball, and if you remember when we first meet him he is being offered a rice ball by that little girl. In this episode Mr. 2 says "Oh, come my way" but this english phrase sounds very much like "Okama way" which would translate into "The way of the crossdresser". Okama is the word for male crossdresser (or effeminate male) in Japanese. Oda is known to frequent gay/crossdressing bars in Japan and make friends with the people there so he has a soft spot for them. So he created a safe space in his comic for a crossdressing effeminate male character.

Because vivi has childish point of view, and Luffy pointed out the fact that she is betting even the crew, and she can’t pretend to save the rebels and citizens too, because people in this world dies, only a dreamer can pretend it doesn’t happen! And hence vivi’s plan was to meet the rebels and tell them that the explanation behind everything happened bad on alabasta has a name it’s called Crocodile. Another consideration, I know that luffy’s punch can be extremely rude, but even there there is a symbol behind (cause oda his a symbolist artist), Luffy by hitting her wants to show that he consider her as his equal, he consider her as a nakama, Oda on drawing it, was really brave.

Fun fact! Oh Come My Way was written this way on purpose. Bon Clay does indeed sing Oh Come My Way, but it’s a hidden meaning for Okama Way. Okama meaning either Gay or Trans. But I’m sure Bon Clay identifies as Trans because he calls himself both genders xD If you ever hear him say Okama Way and Oh Come My Way, it’s very different and distinct sounding.

@@second1387 Wouldn't be surprised if they cut some of it like they did with Don Krieg in s1, especially with Wapol and the Giants. They'll probably change the plot a bit and give them a smaller presence in the LA, 8 eps are way too little to keep everything. Dragon's power probably won't be that difficult though, even in the anime they just show a storm coming up.

One of the points is also that Crocodile is one of the Seven. He is astronomically strong. Its Mihawks power level. And there is two things: Vivi did not want to put her friends lives on the line and thought things could get solved peacefully. But Luffy knew the stakes were too high at this point. He also senses a big challenge and knows they have to prove themselves on the Grandline wich comes right into play a little later on. Its basically about Luffys instincts.

Crocodile got stronger, but he's certainly not anywhere near Mihawk's level. Being a Warlord does not put you at equal strength to everyone else who's a Warlord. If the Strawhats had to face Mihawk in Alabasta instead of Crocodile, they would've lost right there. There ain't no way you're trying to say that the World's Strongest Swordsman would've lost against Luffy not even halfway into their journey. Try to remember that there's many different reasons that one might become or choose to become a Warlord.

SPOILER Crocodile was a great villain, but i always felt like Oda messed up his power level, like he should have come up much later. He could have finished Luffy a couple of times at least but for some reason (plot) never checked if he was really dead before leaving🤷‍♀

Did he have haki at that time? He certainly was the one who trained his devil fruit powers the most. Also he took a lot of hits and clashed with Yoru itself later on. I think you can not compare Mihawk and Crocodile directly butn terms of stamina.. I dont know they seem kind of the same level. IN raw strength Mihawk can cut a ship ok.. But Crocodile can do that with his devel fruit power.@@TheFrostedfirefly

Alabasta is pretty boring arc to be honest. Although this arc has its moments, generally it is quite weak. I also hate Vivi character type most in whole of One Piece, even Wapol is more interesting then her.
