This is going to get lost due to the discussion of the rotation topic for OPTCG, but Vv is cooking up a new way to play One Piece!?? I was casually just listening and as soon as Vv mentioned that, my ears opened up! I would love to see a new format in which to play One Piece and I'm very excited to see what Vv cooks up. Anyways, amazing video as always Vv, loved the nuance and yet respectful way from addressing the rotation topic once again.

Yeah that's really hype ! And on that note (and I'm only talking about it since Vv did) if you haven't seen that yet I'd check out the leader locked format from Smallhatcrew !

I am VERY interested on a gamemode you worked on :) I think the small hat crew did a great job with the LeaderLocked format they have

I came to op from Yu-Gi-Oh so I haven't ever played with block rotations but I'd be open to it. The only concern I have is when you have unique leaders with fun play styles that leave the format it might cause players to leave the game like when they banned rp law and released the promo several people from my locals stopped showing up because they loved the play style of law and there was nothing else like it, several of them even acknowledged that law was overturned but the new one that was released was just so awful they didn't want to play anymore and I wouldn't want to see that with other leaders

I feel a lot of the comments talk about how an archetype gets destroyed by rotation, but what it really allows is an archetype to grow and evolve past certain staples sometimes. Bonney right now is very top end and control focused, but when a staple crutch card (say 8c Kid) is gone, the deck has to find new ways to play, which for deck builders would mean you can now start to build maybe a more mid-range Bonney deck, and although you can do that without rotation you would just be playing a sub-optimal build, at which point you are play casually anyway, and don't have to necessarily follow Bandai enforced rule sets. We are also still very early in One Piece TCG's life, we may not have to actually do a rotation until block 4 comes out. I would say it would actually be a miracle for OPTCG to eventually have to have multiple formats (e.g; All blocks, blocks 4+, blocks 9+, and last 3 blocks released) I for one would be ok with a rotation based system as long as Bandai addresses that an eternal format still exists in some capacity, you can go to locals and play "standard" or you can find the ones that play "modern/legacy" so you can continue to use your old decks.

I think the block rotations are good for new players looking to enter, as a relative new player myself I am locked out of so many decks at the moment because the cards needed were only printed in starter decks and REALLY hard to find copies of.

Hey Vv, great video as always. I'm an OP and Yugioh player too, so I wanted to give a perspective on the turn 2 OTK, just because I think it's something you can find interesting from a game design perspective. Currently, the deck which exemplifies turn 2 OTK is Tenpai dragon; all of its relevant cards came out in a single set last spring, what's carrying them is these two factors: 1) The deck has a lot of space for non-engine, which is currently used to play cards that have the aim of stopping your opponent from playing their first turn or immediately break their board at the start of your turn. The existence of such cards (Shifter, Raigeki, ...) is a consequence of power creep and lack of rotation. 2) The deck has an insane and broken field spell (the equivalent of a stage in OP) and a monster (the equivalent of a character in OP) which are used to stop your opponent from interrupting your plays. The existence of these cards is due to power creep and lack of rotation, which have made going second decks miserable without cards that stop your opponent from playing their first turn. Despite this, I still think that the biggest issue in Yugioh is its lack of a resource system, which make these FTKs and OTKs possible: the very first Yugioh meta in Japan was dominated by a tier 0 Exodia FTK, and 2004 was charaterized one of the most unfun strategies ever (the infamous Yata-lock, basically the opponent would find themselves without cards on the field and in their hand, and, adding insult to injury, they wouldn't be able to draw cards because of Yata-Garasu's effect). Both of these strategies required less time and resources than playing an 8C Kid in One Piece. As for the topic of block rotation, I would hate having to buy staples again, but that's probably on the scalpers and resellers who gouge the prices and not on Bandai themselves, who seem to have a very good grasp on how to manage reprints and rarity distributions. I'm open to the possibility of block rotations, but I'm not looking forward to it. Apologies if this comment turned into a short essay, keep up the good work!

Holy crap I didnt think my comment would get talked about ever. Lol Im actually really surprised. VV you made some really good points and I also felt I wasn’t being really clear with my comment in the last video. While I am not in favor of rotations or blocks in OP due to coming from Yugioh were they don’t have them, I understand the necessity for them in order to push out problematic cards. That has happened time and time again in Yugioh. My statement about picking up an old deck again was about when a deck gets eventually pushed out or isn’t as competitive anymore, I can simply put it on ice and when new support comes out, I can add to it and try to be as good as I can with the more powerful decks out at the time. Man Id hate for Lucci to still be a force 6 years later. Another thing I forgot to mention was that both game also settle problems thru a banlist system, but Konami heavily uses this in place of rotation. And you are right that new players will struggle with getting into a game when they can’t compete with older decks rather than waiting for say a block rotation to kick in and therefore everyone is on the same platform. I really want to say rotation is something I could support, but coming from Yugioh has me kicking that habit hard. Im at least confident enough to have a dedicated friend base who plays OP that if a rotation happens we will stick with a possible “traditional” format and might take a break from the standard until I find a deck I really like

One Piece is my first TCG competitively. I’ve played some Magic with my gf’s dad. I only play commander with him and it’s fun and was easy to pick up. If Magic is doing block rotations then it gives me hope if they decide to do it in One Piece. Like you said. It all depends on Bandai how they do it if they decide to reprint cards and how many blocks are played until they start cutting off the older blocks. I also agree that card values could go up for the original cards. Imagine having extra alt art aramaki worth like $2 right now and then it turns out it fits SUPER well in a future commander deck, that card value might go really high. (Hypothetical)

I don't think people understand the state/direction of the game and that's why they push back on block rotations/changes. Hopefully this video works as time capsule to view back when there were valid concern's rising. Hopefully the development of OPTCG does not go on bad path. So far it seems promising, but I too have some concerns on future balancing.

hey VV, I'm sure you've said this in other videos with vv labs, but where in the discord can we find the deck list for vv lab decks, the list I'm looking for in particular is the Sanji list from the Issho Minks/Navy video, I know Sanji already seems to have a good matchup against Blackbeard, but I would like to get an idea for when we get to that format especially whenever op10 comes out
@VvulfrikАй бұрын
So if you hop on the Discord and go under Review My Games, you might be able to track down the user who submitted the game and DM them. Because sometimes people don't submit their list. Hopefully this helps!

35:08 When Yu-Gi-Oh players talk about their old decks being as competitive as possible, what they mean is just being able to compete, also it's a very archetype centric game, if in 5 years we got a CP leader locked 10 drop that K.Os the whole board and then sets 10 dons as active, Lucci would probably see play (if we don't have a better CP leader by then)

Hi Sir, would like to ask on the effect of black luffy leader card. May I know if on board having more than one 8 cost or more character will let the leader having more than +1000 power? Example: I having two 8 cost character on field, does that make my leader luffy card +2000 power instead?
@VvulfrikАй бұрын
Good question! So the way that this Leader works is no matter how many 8c Characters you have on the board, you will only receive the single +1000 Power Buff to your Leader (if you have the Don Attached).

would be odd if bandai did rotations for one piece when it never did that for dbs,digi,and battle spirits.

Asking because I genuinely don't know, but do those games have "Block" numbers on the cards like One Piece: TCG does?
@romansalud5669Ай бұрын
Bad example for the guy who comented, Commander is neither casual, nor competitive at all. you gotta be years inf magic to have a cool commander deck or buy and expensive new one, that becomes even more expensive just weeks or months after realese, also you just play fun with ypur m8s or some wierd tournaments at locals every once on a while.

What about a format where you're only allowed 2 different cards 25 times each?
@rgmoist2672Ай бұрын
Agree with you on majority of talking points. I think rotation would drive out a lot of people, especially if they rotated leaders, and yes, they could just reprint leaders...but that's a big IF. I feel a good middle ground would be stick with rotating out character and events. It would help with power creep by getting rid of broken cards in certain decks, but let the people still play their favorite leader, even if said leader is irrelevant in the meta at the time. The two format system could also prove limiting if said local scene is small, say only one or two stores running tournaments. I personally know a few stores in the area that have completely ditched modern format in magic, and only do commander. But it's in Bandais hand. They need to be careful with how/if they decide to do something like that in the future. Love the content tho

My apprehension with block rotation is that Bandai can't even do architype locks correctly, so I can't imagine the mess they'd make of this.
