Nice aggressive style. It was nice to hear these being played such passion. thank you for the nice dedication.

I'm not a guitar player (or even a musician), so I clearly don't know what I'm talking about here, but these pieces seem not to have been generated out of the instrument, so much as imposed upon it. Don't get me wrong - I love them all, and they never get old. The finest one, of course, is your version of "Flavor Bud Living." Hey - I have an idea for a warm-up act the next time you take a Magic Band out on the road.

Beefheart composed one red rose modularly (in small sections rather than the usual verse, verse, chorus pattern). The piece doesn't really progress musically, and the pieces could be put in a different order and it would still work. This makes it fascinating as it defies our expectations about music, and the novelty of it intrigues. It requires virtuoso skill to play this piece.

This is so great! New favorite video. And certainly tough stuff to do. The setting may be one of the best ever on youtube. I feel like i'm in a Van Gogh painting. Not sure i could even attempt a Captain song. If i did, it'd probably be one of the bluesy "regular songs." Cheers man. :) (what are you playing thru? is that a pignose?)

It takes some doing to learn these pieces. Well done for mastering them. I thought Bill Harkleroad wrote these?
@sergiootaegui6 жыл бұрын
he did
@MaurizioCuradi4 жыл бұрын
No, the great Bill Harkleroad worked on piano tapes played by Don Van Vliet, and transposed the often fragmentary piano lines on a guitar. The original music was improvised and recorded by Van Vliet, often in sections, and Harkleroad may be considered a great arranger, a masterful transposer and an experimental guitar performer. Clearly, Harkleroad has been a musician without whom this guitar music, in this form, would not have been possible. Harkleroad himself and John French too, in his deeply analytical book, tell about this strange process of writing impromptu music for guitars on a piano (without really knowing how to play it)....

I found them to be a bit rough rhythmically. Could have flowed a bit better. But the tone and attitude were spot on. I transcribed all those pieces 30 years ago and they’ve been posted online. I wonder if this guitar player worked from those.
