Hey Milloh, quick (maybe not) question. I've been playing on a private server, prepping for release, and I definitely know I want to play a paladin with healing capabilities that can still pack a punch. How does Holy-Reck compare to traditional Shockadin in this regard? I've heard rumors the /sit macros won't be working in classic (And I don't mind. It always seemed janky to me), so if that's the case does Holy-Reck still do well? What are the strengths and weaknesses of the two, compared to each other?

Shockadin obviously has the 30sec CD Holy Shock, and relies on trinkets and buffs to be truly effective (also a lot of gear), so it good for world PvP random encounters but damage wise not the best for BGs. Holy shock does however give you another defensive option while healing and waiting for trinket CD. Reckoning is stronger early unlike Shockadin, and has more consistent damage. As you can see in the video, he doesn't even use /sit in the montage, so the macro is not vital, it just makes you able to gain stacks to end fights much faster.

Leo Havoc Thanks for watching! Yeah I definitely think ironfoe could be a very strong option, something like a Dragon’s Call (something I’ll be making a video on) will be very strong for a 1h and shield reckoning build, usually items with a proc that don’t have an internal cooldown will be the best, due to the fact you will be hitting so many times in such a short amount of time. As for shields, typically something that just has decent stats on it will work just fine, Hopefully this helps a little! I will be making a video about a build like this so keep a lookout for it!

I loved the idea to be able to heal in pve and dps in pvp. Are you still running this spec on classic and how does it work for you? Epohx hello! So the reckoning stuff can actually work, it’s just a bit buggy currently! Trying to find some time to make a video about it but I plan on one soon! As for a multi spec, you can definitely still run this one, but I’m currently using a build where I go down to divine favor and then go the rest into Ret. It’s giving me enough to be able to heal and dps, only missing a few talents from holy. :)

Bryce Eckerd it’s mainly for when you switch over to a shield and one handed like when your fighting a rogue. Honestly the value of the talent is so much better then anything else you could pick up so that’s typically why I run it!

Yes. For tanking, go 11 in holy for Consecration. It'll give you a form of AoE threat generation. From there you can go into the prot tree if you'd like some mitigation talents, or further into holy to improve healing. You can snag the Righteous Fury talent in prot if you want additional aggro, but I always skipped it since Paladin tanking in late-game is lolsy. Paladin spec matters less than gear, generally speaking, when it comes to dungeon performance in the leveling phase. But if you want to improve healing and tanking aspects for leveling, having at least 11 in holy is the best way to go. If you're soloing, I'd recommend ret, at least for SoC and PoJ.

I think that's so you can reach reckoning while still having a defensive option to switch to if you need it. I'd probably keep a shield ready to swap.

malkavian I would say in the endgame holy reckoning does potentially more damage but I guess with how reckoning looks to be working with the beta, holy shock would be more consistent because you will guaranteed have your burst every 2 minutes.

Honestly, it depends on what you want to tank, Iv tanked 60 dungeons fully spec’ed into Ret. As long as you have consecration and throw on some solid gear you will be okay. Obviously picking up improved righteous fury helps a ton.

Is corrupted ashbringer good for this build or paladin overall? I've dreamed about this exact gear build with the ashbringer since I started playing wow in TBC. I definitely want this build this time around in classic. What do you think how fast will it be possible for me to get it? I mean as for the somehow above casual players but not the hardcore level or guild master level.

Megumin Corrupted Ashbringer is legit bis for Paladin, the lifestealing proc on it is amazing, however Naxx is pretty tough so it all depends! Just keep at it and anything’s possible :)

Question : Can maelstrom trinket proc multiple times with full reckoning stack?! This build seems perfect for pve and pvp! Decent heal even for early raids. And reck pvp is awesome, good support spec, and can potentially 1shot. With that spec i wouldnt need to respec at all.. can use 1h/shield or 2h. Swap heal gears, can tank/heal dungeon while lvling.

Yes, you can. My tip for you is to go for Blessing of Sanctuary to justify your deep prot build in PVE. You'll bring kings AND BoS. Heal raids > get gear > reck people in PVP.

It's still possible if you use a /sit /stopattack /startattack macro, but imo it's way too wonky and annoying to do. Because of the way reckoning works now, if you're attacking it doesn't give you a stack it just resets your autoattack so if you were about to attack anyway it basically does nothing. If you aren't able to proc in manually reliably it's not worth using imo especially as a lot of the Prot talents aren't really good for PvP (Improved Blessing of Freedom/Hammer of Justice'/Concentration Aura are probably the only good talents, but not necessarily worth going so deep in Prot for without Reckoning)

@@Bobbysmacks From what i gather, reckoning no longer is stackable nor works like we want it to. It just simply gives an extra swing when you are crit'd. There will be no bomb, unless of course you are crit'd like 5 times in a row, which would then trigger each time, but the days of the bomb are gone. Sitting, which you can do, does not do anything, other than get your crit'd but doesnt trigger it. Oh well I guess...

for tbc, i plan to get a mix of the Spell damage arena gear, and some ret type gear, and try getting The Hammer of Righteous Might, the only 2h weapon designed for shockadins, a fast 2h mace with high spell damage. then i'll spec 34/27/0 to get holy shock and reckoning, and get Blessed Life and Sacred duty, deep into both trees. the procs from reckoning, in combination with a fast 2h with seal of righteousness, i should do alot of damage with that and holy shock.

Yes, it's very good for leveling. Once you reach lvl 32, you should switch all talents to prot to get "Reckoning".

Well you saw in the intro montage he doesn't even do the /sit. So it doesn't really change much. It just means you can't cheese out the full 4 stacks in most cases, unless you focus on healing, and only reck bomb when you get the full stacks.

CraserX Hey! So I think they are fairly close, the one big difference is that holy-reck will be doing a lot of magic damage, so it’s very strong vs plate wearers. I’ll do some testing and see the differences in damage but honestly it’s up to preference I believe :)

Holy reck allows you to be a support to your team in PvP as well as being a capable healer in PvE. Going ret narrows your playstyle imo.

As Mihaz said, Ret/Reck is a narrower playstyle. It does benefit from having higher dmg overall, and you're passable dungeon DPS. The problem is that Ret isn't great DPS compared to other classes in a raid and doesn't offer the CC options typically desired in dungeon DPS. Premade PvP groups also prefer having stronger heals or support from Paladins. Thus Holy/Reck winds up finding pvp premades and dungeon/raiding groups far more easily. I also find Holy/Reck is a far more fluid playstyle in any group pvp, as you heal teammates while building up Reckoning counters passively, then run in to obliterate someone with 5 hits. It's the best of both worlds. If you're Ret/Reck, you're not really specced to heal and thus don't want to waste time doing that. But if you're actively attacking someone, you're not really building counters for that one-shot hilarity. Consequently it doesn't benefit from the same level of surprise unless you purposefully go off to find some NPC to build up. That's not sustainable for any appreciable amount of kills. You're still benefiting from extra attacks, but it's giving any organized opponents sufficient time to heal the damage because you're only bursting 2 attacks at a time.

​@@smallpseudonym2844 Normal ret is great and can fit the same flex damage to healing roll as holy reck. It just relies on using paladin abilities to create pressure rather than actual damage. A clutch dispel or heal can make or break a fight regardless of your spec. That just tends to be your absolute focus. It does lack the demand ability but you're never alone if you're playing paladin properly.

mage is doable as reckoing (they crit sometimes). but WL and Spriest are really tough with that (in special Spriests which I would even consider to be the hard counter to this). Warlocks are a bit tougher to kill then the mage, but if u're able to abuse their pet to gain stacks it is possible to kill them.

Good warlocks will never put their pet on you. And since paladins have no interrupt, they are just gonna fear spam you and nuke you down. There should be nothing this spec can do to beat warlock. Spriest will simply mana burn spam you, again since you don't have an interrupt as paladin. Once OOM you can't heal and the Spriest simply kills you. Should also be an impossible match as this spec. Mage is doable, although tough, especially as they get more mana from gear as time goes on. Mainly a battle of mana bars and juking the CS.

holy ret is pointless when your just going to get spell interrupted when healing. So many wasted talent points. Improved conc aura in prot. I mean this spec is only somewhat viable if you want to stay in the background lay down a few heals and burst now and then. But only expect to 1 shot weak horde players at best

What’s your view of ret pally potential if they decide to not have the /sit macro work? Pretty much screw a bunch of pally builds? While I love healing the reason I would want to play Pally come classic is to be able to mix it up spec wise. Plan on going holy for raids but hopefully as a hybrid build for pvp

@@wethepeople8280 only time will tell, depends if they decide too make actual balance changes (perhaps as a consequence of changing things like /sit=crit, perhaps because they can't recreate vanilla 100% in the new engine). But if no other balance changes are made, ret paladin will be a LOT weaker then they are on Pservers. With that said you will still be an amazing healer, a good dungeon tank and a "decent" pvp DMG dealer.

I played ret in vanilla and was extremely involved pvp (like raiding was an option lol), from my experience compared to shockadin or full ret it doesn't seem like it will be as effective especially if the /sit to get crit gets patched. Youre relying on sitting to get crit to build your damage, witch if youre bubble is down is almost a sure death sentence against an equally skilled/geared player. Not only that the gear you're suggesting is several weeks if not months of grinding, assuming ret pally don't get black balled from raiding this time around. And your wep is one if not the best two handed melee in classic I know you stated other weps in the video, but using the ashbringer to showcase this build makes it a little tilted. All of this is just my opinion though and I could be wrong. I'm not saying it's a bad video you did a great job breaking everything down and showcasing, build it's interesting and could be fun to mess around with, I just don't see it being viable for average gear players trying to pvp.

imab Iner Great points! Yeah I tend to tell people take paladins with a grain of salt and they will have to put in a ton of work to make it happen. These showcases uses some of the best gear just to show what is possible, maybe not what will actually happen but it’s fun to see how far it can be taken. Also this server is full of people in t3 etc. so to even show off anything you tend to have to use the best gear lol. But regardless, I agree, I usually think it’s better to heal in raids for some gear or just go pvp crazy and go full Ret!
