As a 50 year old man that is 6-4 and 255 that is new to saddle hunting, I probably will not be one sticking. However, your comment about the negativity is spot on. People should do what they want to do and keep their mouth shut about what other people are doing. I did enjoy your demo and it gave me some insight into the method. Happy hunting and stay safe!

Great video. Slow and steady is the fastest way to climb. I am 67, 6"-2" tall and 195lbs.with a bad back so I just add in a few extra safe guards since I don't bounce the way I did when I was younger. I use my line mans belt from the ground up and only remove it when I need to reach for the stick to make my next move or when tethered in at hunting height. I also use a back-up (prussic or auto block on the rope) below my Gri-Gri as an added safety factor. I have recently added a "Yates Shorty Screamer" between my bridge and Gri-Gri. If I fall when the tether/ rappel rope has slack, it may help lessen the shock load. It is best to do what makes you feel safe and comfortable. A few extra minutes used to go up safely is better than having a problem.

Great video. Im 6ft 240lbs and have been saddle hunting a few years and started 1 sticking 2 seasons ago. I have 2 herniated discs and still do it, One thing that may help some is to set your tether to the side of the tree from where your stick is. It make its easier to reach the stick and get into the aider.

Great video! I’m 250lbs and one sticked first time last year. I find it much easier then putting up 4 sticks and platform. I think it is intimidating for first time saddle hunters but once you have one hunting season under your belt With a saddle and sticks and you can swing around the tree and lean, twist naturally. One sticking becomes no sweat and natural progression.

Could get away from metal weight and noise of quick link by using a simple running bowline that takes seconds to tie and untie. I personally prefer to swing off side of tree to get my stick to move it up and to place it on tree. But im not using a platform and top. Just has a regular step. As i prefer a ring of steps over a platform. And putting stick on tree at ground level doesnt count as a move imo. The first move is the first time you take stick off tree and move it up. My favorite method is one sticking and using a lwcg 1.0 hang on stand. More versatile and comfy than a sassle imo. Good luck and stay safe.

Good video. One thing you might want to try is aiders made from webbing rather than amsteel. I have both. The amsteel seems real nice, but I find I have a lot more problems getting my foot on the amsteel steps (especially in the dark). Note in your video (the 9 minute mark) how the amsteel on the upper steps tends to bend in towards the tree or out towards you rather than staying were you expect it to be.

I understand that you switched to using a 3 step aider as opposed to the 2 step aider. I know that 3rd step when you are setting up on the ground, but once you are past that (higher than the first move) and hanging from the tether, does the 3rd step still help you? Are you able to use the 3rd aider step for your 2nd and follow-on moves, or for those higher moves do you only use the top two steps of the aider?

Thanks for the video. Just subscribed. Just getting into saddle hunting, got everything including a saddle. I got an ESS and did not care for it so I have a TX5 Lonestar on order. I mainly plan on SRT climbing but got an Ultimate One Stick for trees I don't have presets in. I really look forward to getting into this.
