This reminds me of a really old Four tet video where he showed how he made sounds by scrubbing around Audacity (iirc). Neat trick.

I just switched to Ableton. For example, I found a tricky way to change all my beats on the same channel at once. However, the new kicks are not the same length as the old ones. I've also discovered that in Ableton it is more difficult to select and stretch all of these sounds than to split the atom.

I can't get this to work as shown here. The playhead seems very laggy and doesn't respond rhythmically like in the video

Had the same issue. If you watch the first part again you'll see he's not actually scrubbing, he's clicking and holding. The global quantization is then causing the repeats. If you hold and drag it seems to be, as some others have put here 'laggy'.It seems like it's repeating at 1/16 note intervals but when you move the play head it seems to take 1/4 note before repeating at the new position. When he then turns global quantization he also turned on 'Legato' within the clip tab. This then allows the scrubbing to be immediate with no lag. Took me a couple of watch throughs before I got that.

hi i was wondering if anyone could help me with a few questions -- for some reason when my global quantization is set to 1/16, i'm not able to scrub rapidly the way he is in the video. it seems delayed and doesn't respond to multiple clicks. it seems like the playhead will only go where i want it to if i hold down my mouse. has anyone else experienced this issue? the other thing is i don't use session view a lot. when i followed the steps in the view and created the clips in session view, the clips didn't show up once i switched to arrangement view. i had to drag them there in order to see them. i was wondering if there's a setting i have to turn on so they record into arrangement view at the same time. greatly appreciate any help, thanks!

I’m not an Ableton expert so someone feel free to correct me, but I think a couple things are going on for you. First, for the rapid scrubbing, I think you have to turn global quantization off rather than to 1/16. He mentions it somewhere in the video, but it’s easy to miss! For the session view part, the big record button at the top should start recording to the arrangement, but you might have to turn off clip recording first (un-filled circle in the top bar). Keep in mind that this will record to the arrangement INSTEAD of the session view, not in addition to it. Hope that helps! Edit: you mentioned you're not familiar with session view, thought you were unfamiliar with arrangement view, sorry for the confusion haha. Reworded this.

Can someone tell me if there is a way to select and edit multiple audio clips?
@Ableton
@Ableton Жыл бұрын
Hi there. Thanks for the comment. There are certain things you can, and certain things you can't do when editing multiple clips at once. So our response will vary depend on what editing you're trying to do. In any case, the best thing for you might be to get in touch with a Certified Ableton Trainer. They can help you with all of your workflow questions: bit.ly/3NBD0qD Thanks - Ableton

@@Ableton You know, it's the kind of way we can do by holding the audioclip on another channel with the linked track method and extending the corner. You know, in the style of making multiple selections with the shift key in all programs, making the fade, extending the clip lengths, and shortening it :) Although my research has shown me that this has been requested in the forums for 10 years, I still don't want to believe it is not happening.

I don't understand the second example - do you just hold the mouse button down and then drag sideways, or do you click over and over again? (actually this probably goes for all examples - I don't understand how the mouse is being used)

He held down the mouse button and put step quantization to 1/16th, even if there is no quantization, there is still a sort of attack or release delay to it.

Why are Ableton's artist demonstrations only within a narrow "techno" or experimental style of production? Why not show the diversity of musical styles of users, approaches and setups that you can achieve with the software (theater, dance, live electronics, installation)? There are many use-cases that are ignored in the channel, which could show the myriad of possibilities that the software has to offer

Hi, thanks for your feedback! We try to cover all the different musical styles that can be done with Live. However, we recognize that there are limits to covering a myriad of possibilities. So we appreciate hearing what you would like to see and will be sure to pass your request along internally. In the meantime, feel free to browse our One Thing video series to see if there is something that fits your style:bit.ly/4157pAs. Thanks!

Something important to note here is that the "Percussion Track" gets overwritten as well when resampling is on. It seems to me that If you want to maintain the original track and then add variations to it, you should let it loop one complete pass through the "Percussion" track and then add variations on the additional takes. Can anyone confirm is this is the best way to go about it?
