Absolutely wonderful talk, Sister. I expected nothing less 🙏🏻 If anyone is interested, Sr. Dang Nghiem has actually written two books: "Healing: A woman's journey from doctor to nun" and "Mindfulness As Medicine". I read them both some time ago and they profoundly affected me. I would highly recommend them. Sisters and brothers, please stay safe in these uncertain times 🙏🏻

Sr. Dang Nghiem you are completely right, what you have said here. I was born in a turkish, muslim family and Ihave also recognized that woman plays less importance when it comes to teaching or learning from their own religion or as a religious leader. It is quiet sad tho. Woman are still less important in the monotheist religions....or even the idea that a woman can not be someone who we as a men or woman can learn something. Thats really sad. To be honest I left Islam without saying it to anyone, I didn't believed in this religion, I was more like being born in a religion I didn't feel to fit in since I was 5 years (if you understand what I mean), I left the religion I was born in, because I want to learn more about Budhism. I was always on the path to end the suffering on earth and I become vegan. I have learned Transcendental Meditation, and now I am gonna integrate Mindfulness in my life more often. I respect other cultures and religions and I have experienced in Budhism so much true love and much respect and equality and peace. I am actually reading the book "Fidelity" written by Thich Nhat Hanh. And this book is really usefull with alot of problems like loneliness. I wish I could hug every Budhist from Plum Village. In every person I see in their faces an image of sympathy and true love. You all shine like a sun, and I love to listen to you and your teachings. Sometimes I cry out of joy to listening to you no matter if it is a monk or a nun, you are all great humans. I love you all:)

Hi there, your comment is so sincere and touching. Thank you so much for sharing. I am so happy for you and your journey of love, compassion and kindness. I also following the KZbin channel of Herman Siu. He's a 6th generation Shaolin descendant. He has a movement called Every Drop Counts. His meditation video is one of my favorites. He often has free live webinars too. His background makes him unique because it's ancient wisdom shared with modern-day guidance. I'm enrolled in the one for May 8th at 1:00pm EST! You should check it out! All the best to you 🙏🙂

I agree. I was a Muslim like you. I read Islamic books and then I read the Bible and parts of Jewish books and the Talmud. They lied to me that Buddhists are on the wrong path. So I said I have to study myself. I found out; From the Ten Laws of Moses to walking on water to flying from Mecca to Bethlehem are taken from Buddhist stories (but not with an animal between a mule and a donkey, but with a tiger and a bull). Buddhists and Hindus discovered all traditional medicine for us. Abrahamic religions took them under their names from Buddhist and Hindu books and transferred them under their names in their books. Like the Ten Laws of Moses, which are completely taken from the Ten Laws of Buddha without sleeping in a luxurious place. Of course, later Muhammad included the tenth law in his religion, which is to live simply and spend time in non-luxurious places. I'm glad I found someone like me. May all my good prayers guide you

I would like to express my gratitude for this lovely Dharma talk by Sr. Dang Nghiem. I listen to talks by the brothers and sisters whenever I can and I find their experiences very moving and instructive. This talk is something I have been looking for, for a long time, and I really appreciate Sr. Dang Nghiem's courage and honesty. I feel more committed to and confident in my practice after listening to this talk. Wishing the Sangha and everyone else the very best.

She personally told me her story about her fiance some 15, 16 years ago when I was visiting Deer Park for a few months. A thought occurred to me that I wanted to say but also immediately thought it might be insensitive or crude and should keep my mouth shut. I finally decided to let it out and offered to her that her fiance "sacrificed" himself for her so she could pursue the spiritual path. She responded with the gentlest smile and said, "I know". I love that even as a nun she had "temptations" and wonderings about certain people and connections. So much about her is just so "real" that anything from her, just to hear her voice, her talks, feels like such a blessing, humbling.
@tylerwhitney34433 жыл бұрын
Whoa! That sacrificial insight is profound. I think about that in my own life from my divorce or letting go of certain attachments leading to liberation, or at least allowing opportunity to pursue a path, that might otherwise be "blocked" by a partner, a career etc. 🙏❤️🙏

It is so refreshing to finally hear a woman teaching and Sr. Dang Nghiem is sharing real and from the heart. It is deeply touching to hear her share and give a talk. This to me is a beginning I hope of more women in all traditions starting to teach like that. About time our voices are heard and our messages get across so we may balance the planet which has been off balance for centuries because of that. Namaste and Peace.

I hear, see, feel & experience Thay in/with you, his essence alive in your life. You Are beautiful continuation of His honesty and gentleness. You speak deep into my heart and water the mindfulness within in the same way as Thay. You take the simple and expose it's depth. Please share more, please offer yourself as dharma teacher. Dearest Sister, it is very nice how you explain the two Chinese characters, and that bringing in the moon results in ease and freedom. ( in contradiction to fear, chaos and noise) . By the way, it is full moon today. Great that you are a Nun and share your experience with us. I learn a lot from you.

I also loved the way she explained the two Chinese characters. I immediately understood why I don't like going to busy markets, malls, etc. There, I feel chaos and I start to panic. I avoid those places. That the moon brings ease and freedom isn't surprising, looking at the moon is very soothing. Isn't it?

I two lives in times of war and I have thought about those restrictions and the way they've been said in the time of the Buddha and I thought to myself recommended decided to take such a big endeavor and in my mind I thought he had to make things appear in certain way to protect the Sangha in the minds of the time there was a great danger in his actions and it opened the path to change and it's wonderful that our teacher have taken it forward . It bring me great joy thank you 🙏🙏🙏

Sister D, thank you for this talk. It is so heartfelt and open and personal, but also so powerful. I also have to admit that I fell asleep listening to your gentle voice but when I woke up I had a strong memory of you saying "as long as I can wiggle one toe, I can be happy." Thank you dear Sister Dang Nghiem for sharing your story. You were so open and genuine. I have the tendency to see the Monks and Nuns at Plum Village as people far and above all of us. So, seen your down to earth side describing your very raw emotions was very reassuring to me. As a result of the health crisis around the world, the ensuing confinement, limitations, fear and insecurity brought to the forth the shadows of my childhood traumas. I so identify with you because this crisis has made me cry out of fear having to relive my trauma all over again. Facing demons from the past is very painful. Thanks to you, dear Sister, now I know that I am not an imbalanced individual, I simply am being forced to face my past and it hurts. Your talk was very helpful, very calming … it gently took me from chaos to ease and freedom. I will continue to practice. Love it!

I'm always in awe of your Dharma talks. I'm hoping to become a monastic at Deer Park whenever y'all open up to aspirants again, and one of the thoughts that arises is around celibacy. I was celibate for 8 months a few years ago, and I really found some great insights and peace from that. Since then I've had a few brief romantic experience, but like so many others, they come and go, full of stress, anguish, loss. I'm at a point where "marrying the Sangha" seems like the most beautiful and wise path to embark on my last 40 years of this mysterious life. 🙏❤️

As a Western woman and a practitioner, I genuinely cannot understand why the act of inviting women dharma teachers by brothers at Deer Park is seen as a "noble act". Women's position in society in India during and before Buddha's teachings, such as being owned like property by any male family member and girls not being educated or given as much care as boys, is no longer relevant and no longer appropriate today. Women are not intellectually inferior to men, nor are they inferior in their ability to practice deeply, offer teachings of the dharma, or cultivate compassion, loving kindness and inclusivity. In my experience, at times I've seen the opposite. Dear Plum Village community, dear brothers and sisters, please continue practicing gender equality in your monastic family, as well as sharing it with the lay community. Let your teachings and actions be relevant to today's generation of young women of the West and the East, for we do not want to move backwards on gender equality, but keep moving forward! Lotus for you all.

My Grest Syster Dong! Unfortunately, I saw with my own eyes what oppression and mistreatment the Westerners did to you during the spread of the corona virus and found you guilty. But the whole world, out of ingratitude, forgot how many medicines and cures you discovered for us. You benefited us from Confucius and Tao and your own Buddhist knowledge. And I kiss your hands from afar for your patience.
