I just love Ava's voice :) What's amazing as well is how naturally beautiful she was, even before being an actress, plus she has an incredible, sultry presence. Apparently Ava thought she couldn't act. I have to say I disagree :)

She was exactly that! My mother was the image of her, and when she was 20/22 years old (1945) she was shot twice in the back by a man obsessed with her. She survived but always said that her beauty was a curse. Men objectified her and women were jealous of her. She recently passed away at 97.

This is actually very difficult to watch if you know the whole behind the scenes story of Walker and his wife Jennifer Jones - Selznick had basically destroyed both of them. On set, Gardner purportedly saw Walker as a fragile simp and set out to seduce him at every turn - then spat him out once the film wrapped. If Selznick plunged the knife in, Gardner twisted it. .

"The whole story", eh? Not sure what Gardner having an affair with Walker has to do with anything (oh, poor Robert, sex with Ava Gardner sure must have been salt on his wound after losing Jennifer to another man five years prior!).... Unless you believe Selznick had Jennifer Jones as a sex slave for 20+ years, I don't know how you could portray her as "destroyed". I heard about Walker never getting over it. And that's tough luck.

Robert Walker also slapped Ava across the face when he discovered that she had got back together with an ex boyfriend, Howard Duff. After that incident she refused to speak to him for the rest of the production. One day she came back to her dressing room and found that Robert Walker had vandalized the door with an explicit insult. Then he kept calling her until she had her phone number changed. Walker's life was very sad and he didn't deserve what happened with David O Selznick and his wife leaving him, and he died under somewhat mysterious circumstances a few years later, but he was abusive towards Ava.

And every time he tried to move on (like his relationship with Gardner) he would become jealous and possessive. The way he behaved towards Gardner was just his obsessive personality again. He was a brilliant actor, and a deeply sensitive person, but also very troubled
