Don't worry that it will become repetitive as time goes on - there is always something we missed or wondered about that we will see or understand next time it comes up. Much simpler floors. Using post tension instead of a lot of rebar. Not nearly as many floor penetrations etc. Once the floors go to pure residential and no special services, floor drains and such it doesn’t take nearly as long to lay them out.

Interesting at 2:27 and 3:17 the silver passthrough tubes are cemented over. Presumably later the relevant trades would have to clear the hole of the concrete covering. i wonder if this is intentional, as it makes it easier/faster for the concrete finishing crew to complete their work.

@HospitalConstruction4 жыл бұрын
They tear down the building and start over, of course! Seriously, though, I assume they fix it, but I'll see if I can find out.
@HospitalConstruction4 жыл бұрын
Here's the answer: he is checking the concrete before the cables get stressed which can have some effect on the levelness of the floor and this essentially removes the concrete guys liability if the floor isn’t flat after the post tensioning. If the floor isn’t level with this test the concrete guy will either bush (chip the concrete) or float the floor before the floor finish is installed.
@dustindavis22454 жыл бұрын
Hospital Construction thanks so much. Greatly appreciate it.
@jeffreyloftus36174 жыл бұрын
What is the point / benefit of laying the stressing cables in such a haphazard up and down way then stressing them the following day before the concrete has had time to cure ?
@constructionwatcher53814 жыл бұрын
The up and down pattern is not haphazard at all, but very intentional. They are higher when they go over the supports, that is the re-bar near the columns. They are lower in between so they provide upward support in the middle of the span, rather like the cables on a suspension bridge like the Golden Gate Bridge.
@jeffreyloftus36174 жыл бұрын
Rubbish there are no columns anywhere near the four high spots showing at 1-56 , and as i said the concrete will be no where near strong enough for stressing with that up and down pattern ,i dare say if the cables were laid level it would be alright given the equal pressure that would be applied but the up and down placing creates a very different scenario.
@constructionwatcher53814 жыл бұрын
@@jeffreyloftus3617 I'm afraid you are just wrong. There is a column just off the frame to the right in the foreground of this shot. You can see the re-bar structure radiating from that column on the right front of that shot. So the cables running between columns are running left and right. The high spots on the cables that run from front to back are supported by the cables that run from left to right. The principal I was describing apply.
@jeffreyloftus36174 жыл бұрын
There are no column's anywhere near the high cables i pointed out at 1-56 ,
@constructionwatcher53814 жыл бұрын
Sorry, Jeffrey, but that's just not correct. First, look at 1:40 where the yellow box is being drawn around the area of the upcoming closeup. Note the red gas can setting in the large group of blue cables running across the shot left and right. That group of cables runs all the way across the floor, on either side of a row of columns. In particular, note the column to the right of the gas can, which is the second one back in a row running from front to back. You can also see pairs of blue cables running from front to back at intervals, crossing the large groups. Now, advance to about 1:43, where the closeup begins. You can now see the gas can still in the center of the same large group of cables running left and right. You can see the same large group of cables running left and right, along the row of columns, and the pairs of cables running across them running front to back. So the large groups of cables running along the row of columns are acting like beams, supported on each end by a column. The cables dip between columns to provide "lift" to support the weight they carry, just like a beam would. The pairs of cables running cross-ways at intervals are supported by these "beams" and themselves dip in the center between the "beams" to provide "lift" to support the floor between the "beams." To better understand where the column to the right of this shot is, look at the extreme right of that shot, where the large group of cables run off to the right. You can see sticking up from the re-bar several vertical stubs with heads that look like very large nails. Now look at last week's episode, Week 24, at 24::50. This is a different column, but you can see the same pattern of "nails" running out of each side of the column a few feet. They are part of the re-bar structure that transfers the load carried by the large bundles of blue cables to the columns. The same structure is used at each column, and that's what you see in this week's episode at the right side at 1:43. The column itself is just out of the frame to the right a few feet.
