The song is about Karl Janoušek who was born Czechoslovakia, fought in the Austro-Hungarian Army in World War 1 (due to Czechoslovakia being part of the Austro-Hungarian empire during that time) and then with the British in World War 2 as a pilot due to his country being occupied by Germany. Returned to Czechoslovakia after the war, was arrested by the communist secret police (due to Czechoslovakia being puppet state of the Soviet Union), was released in 1960s and died in 1971 age 77.

Czechoslovakia was outright sacrificed in early attempts to appease Hitler. To say they fought in WW2 in a massive understatement.

Karel Janoušek and many other Czechoslovak legionnaires. Which operated during the First World War. They are forgotten. After all, the communists did not want to learn about them. But now they are slowly making their way into the subconscious. And the nation is starting to remember them.

When this song was made the guitarists were Thobbe Englund (left for solo stuff in 2016) & Chris Rörland (Chris is still in the band) so if there is a third guitarist in this it could be Joakim, he has done some guitar stuff in the studio for at least Carolus Rex album. And occasionally does play live, like in "Resist and Bite". Joakim has said in an interview that he sounds like a "cookie monster" when he growls, so I would guess that means he doesn't do it. But apparently Chris is pretty good at it... Joakim has a dual citizenships of Sweden (his dads side & Joakim grew up "swedish") and Czech Republic because his mom was born in Czechoslovakia somewhere in/near/around Prague (the capital of Czech Republic). So as Joakim says he's 50% Swedish, 50% Czech. This song is something little more personal to him, like all of the "swedish songs" are. It was apparently sort off made/written for the 2012 Masters of Rock festival in Czech Republic as a separate song, they premiered it there, though it would later be recorded and included on the 2014 album "Heroes". It's good to see a reaction to a more 'uncommon' song, that not everybody listens to. And it's interesting to hear from your audio engineering perspective, how/why something sounds like it does. Take a listen to The Last Battle. An incredible story, not known by many.

The great war was ww1, the Axis didnt exist till ww2. It was the central powers in ww1.
