He's a person who has been where humans are seeking to put mutants before, and is doing everything in his power to prevent Nazi II: Electric Boogaloo from being a thing that can and will murder millions yet again. Frankly, the X-Men are the villens. They claim to seek peace, but do nothing to ensure true, permanant, legal protections for their "race". Magneto, meanwhile, does everything he does to ensure his people will have a place totaly free of baseline humans, who he knows (correctly) they simply cannot co-exist with.

True. Fox wanted to make anthology of origins films starting with Wolverine origins. Magneto Origins was repurposed into X-men first class. Some people may classify Magneto not as a villain but as an anti-villain. _An Anti-Villain is the opposite of an Anti-Hero - a character with heroic goals, personality traits, and/or virtues who is ultimately the villain. Their desired ends are mostly good, but their means of getting there range from evil to undesirable._ He is a complex and interesting character that I am glad that we got to see his backstory

My bestfriend is a huge magneto fan, a international relations major, and will fight about the fact that Magneto is right anyday of the week. And this entire movie is just a perfect example of how right she is. You have a Jewish man who saw not only his people rounded up and sent to these camps (and definitely many of them killed for little things) but then saw his mother killed because this maniac wanted to test powers he probably just got. Now years later he is a part of a people that is being persecuted and hated and he sees the little things that happend before the trains. The way they are being snubbed and talked down to, the way certain opportunities disappear if you get found out, and how even the bread crumb that they were being fed to keep them quiet are slowly stopping. He knows the signs and he isn't going to watch it happen again. And most of the true bulk of his arch in the other movies is in the background, but in this one we get to see it ALL. You learn all of the whys, all the hows, and just how deep his pain goes. And it is beautiful Please Hollywood give us more character stories PLEASE!!!!!

The movies (and often the comic book writers) have to make gigantic loops, like making him a ''human-genocide'' supporter or creating an ominous scenario in with his actions resulted in ''mutant genocide'', because without it we would 100% be on his team. The guy that says ''look, we need to make an effort to be tolerant with the intolerant, or present ourselves in a 'respectable fashion' to gain the 'acceptance' of the bigots that are literally hellbent on persecuting us for just existing and the passive assholes that are willing to let it happen'' or the guy that kicks the door and basically say ''we had enough of this shit, swallow us, cos' we are not going away, we are not your inferiors for you to deliberate on our existence, get over or fuck around and find out''? As far as I'm concerned, only one of those get to say ''Mutant and Proud''. Raven was right in going with Eric. Charles in this continuity is a weak coward, and hate his character in this timeline. The airplane scene in ''Days of Future Past'' just confirmes it. Never have to fight for anything in his life and got one taste of the real world and immediately shut himself off in his palace while his brothers get hunt down like animals, while Erik lost everything and Raven never got to be her true self one day in her life and never the less, they were the ones that kept the fight. I will forever be on the side that kills nazis without flinching. Plain and simple.

Fun Fact: If there were something piercing through your head, the pain you feel is mostly from the entry, the exit, and the psychology belief that something is piercing through you. But what about the brain? You won't feel anything. Because the brain has no pain receptor, therefore it does not feel pain. Although, the squishy sounds you hear when something is directly touching your brain DOES cause you discomfort, because you KNOW something isn't right, and the brain is signalling you to react.
@savannahatkins14884 жыл бұрын
Yes I believe you are right about that! My personal theory as to why Charles was in so much pain is because of his powers mostly. He had taken complete control of Shaw's body in the scene and their minds were linked. Imagine the pain of feeling a person's memories, their entire self being ripped apart. It would have been something he had never experienced before from his powers. He was quite literally feeling what it is like to die

But I remember as I watched the trailers and read posters and even while watching the movie I thought to my self "this guy looks nothing like Ian McKellan" and then... he puts on the Helmet, all emotion drains from his face... And I see Magneto. everything clicked. I wasn't seeing the origins of the X-men I was seeing the Origin of Magneto.

The only problem I have with the dynamic between Charles and Eric is that while Charles is trying to help his friend overcome his pain, he doesn't get that Shaw is so powerful, so easily able to use his vast fortune, connections, and mutant abilities that capturing him isn't an option. Shaw is a grifter parasite without a soul able to do whatever is needed to further his own selfish interests and will use anyone and everyone to get what he wants. No bullet, bomb, anything can stop him since he absorbs any energy directed at him. Only in this one moment where Shaw can't use his powers is where Eric has a chance to stop him and the only way to do that is to push the coin through Shaw's head in such a way that Charles doesn't lose his control over Shaw. If Magento goes too fast then Charles may lose control for an instant and Shaw will absorb the kinetic energy directed at him, but if it is too slow then Eric will only prolong Charles's pain. In his own way Eric does what he is doing because he knows it is right. Yes he may finally accept that Shaw is right about people, but Shaw's abuse of his gifts make him too dangerous to allow to live. So Eric becomes Magento because Charles can't understand that sometimes a hard call is the only call you can make.
@danieluss87294 жыл бұрын
I believe that the film's coin is not only a memory of the pain that magneto carries with him. It is also a way of representing the weapons that magneto uses. When magneto kills shaw he in turn kills charles. Magneto has adopted the weapons of his greatest enemy, he has kill him using the coin that Shaw gave him to remember the power he can reach and he even kept his helmet to isolate himself from people like Charles. If it wasn´t for the tragic past Magneto and Shaw would be destined to be allies. The two share the same thought that mutants are the next step in human evolution and are therefore superior, completely different thoughts than Charles. The scene is not incredible for the death of Shaw but for the death of the friendship between Charles and Magneto. In the end Magneto is not that different from Shaw and that makes him Charles's enemy. It is not the objective, it is not friendship, it is the weapons that make them enemies. In this case, a simple coin.

I bought the dvd 2 years ago and still watch it once every 3months just to try and relive the great moments from this film

This was such a well constructed scene and really does encapsulate the relationship between Eric and Charles. I think one of the most clever things about it is using how Charles is inside Shaw's head as Eric kills him. Charles completely takes in and suffers the pain for Shaw and he does it to save his friend. The dichotomy of ideals at play here is so rich and so well displayed on film here. It's the best moment in the entire film and probably the entire film series.

It’s still amazing to me that the X-Men movies have so many great actors. Just in the Prof. X and Magneto roles, Stewart, McKellen, Fassbender and McAvoy are all amazing.

A truly beautiful recap of a climactic scene from one of my favorite movies of all time! My reason for watching it is actually its theme song - "Love Love" by Take That, my favorite band! After watching it I couldn't resist watching it again and again, and years later I still think this movie is a masterpiece. Your recap of this scene is on point, touching and, like I said, truly beautiful! Thank you!

*its about time the fox Xmen movies got the recognition that they deserve, I thought it was a coincidence that all the other essay channels did the same thing but I’m glad it wasn’t a coincidence, because without the fox Xmen movies the superhero genre might’ve never really taken off, I’m forever thankful for this franchise except for dark phoenix of course lmao*

Proud to admit that one of the voices my inner critic uses while I'm writing is yours. Your existence is now invaluable to me. I know the chances of it happening are slim, but one day I *will* tell you how much your videos mean to me. I'm going to ensure I live long enough to make it a reality.

I wish Vaugh had been kept as director of the X-men movies after first class, and although I like days of future past, I can’t stand singer. Thanks for shining a light on him, I don’t know why he hasn’t been brought to justice.

I also noticed if you watch that scene, when it keeps cutting from Charles to Shaw, you can hear Charles’ scream echo in the background

I am well and on the record saying that I don't think we had a really good X-Men movie until Days of Future Past. It's not to say that the X-Men movies are bad, it's more like...Well, my best comparison would be something River Song said in Doctor Who: It's like knowing someone and then meeting them as a teenager, the basics are there, but they still haven't reached that point yet and become the person you know. While the whole film is actually pretty great, one scene always stuck out to me, even when I was just watching the trailers, when Xavier meets his younger self and tells him that "We need you to hope again". It's something to be said, and not underestimated, that Xavier is almost boundlessly optimistic, even after losing his sister, best friend, and the use of his legs in First Class, he still approaches the future with hope and positivity. Then the 70's rolled around and his students were taken away, despite all of his hopes and dreams, despite all of his power, he has nothing, he can do nothing and the realization breaks him to the point that he becomes a drug addict, shutting himself off from the world. It's honestly to such a point that, when he meets his future self and even sees the utter devastation that the world will become, he barely even notices or cares, it's kind of treated with a shrug like: Yeah, that make sense. Oddly enough, it's the man who has suffered through the future, the older, wiser man, who has to convince the younger man, now terrified of what may come, that there is always hope. That, even if it comes to nothing, it was a life worth living, a life spent protecting others, helping them to grow and become better people. It really is something that a man can stand at the literal end of the world and truthfully declare that their only regret is that the world is ending, and essentially a metaphor for the entire series. Yes, the future is scary, and sometimes the present just outright sucks, but, no matter how dark the night gets, we all have to keep our hope for a new dawn and better tomorrow. Anyway, that's my one X-Cellent Scene (though I'd also like to give a shout-out to that one scene in Apocalypse where the titular villain has Xavier delivering a speech to the world about how utterly fucked they all are, but right when Apocalypse is giving his manifesto that "Only the strong will survive", Xavier looks him dead in the eye and says "And the strong protect the weak, THAT is my message" love the movie or hate it, Total Badass)
