November 13, 2010 was my one-year anniversary. I had bi-lateral DBS at Stanford University Medical Center on this date in 2009. With the stimulator turnd OFF, the Parkinson's symptoms return with a vengence. Watch how a few milliamps of current can change a person's life.

Great stuff! I am very glad that you had this miracle! I hope that you will never have to suffer again! I had the privilige as n employee at a bank to finance the same operation for one of my clients last week. The feeling I got when I told them the money was already paid to the hospital, watching them reacting in pure hapiness was something out of this world.

I have bilateral Essential Tremor (since 2008) and had DBS surgery May of 2019. The results are amazing, no tremors at all in both hands. I have only turned my stimulation off twice ( for MRIs) and hated it, couldn't wait to turn it back on. Thanks for sharing your experience and wish you continued luck

Thank you for making this series of videos. I am 56 years old and was diagnosed with PD when I was 42. I think I will soon have DBS. There are times when I can only move around by walking backwards! The brain fog is so debilitating and many hours are spent sitting in a comfy chair looking into space. I want my brain back! I wish you well. :) Peter.

l have parkinson's too and in April 2018 l developed Bad brain fog and felt like l had a strap around my head. lt would last from 2 to 8 hours every day. l started taking Chinese herbs in October and finally in November l could function again. Drs, MRI, Brain Scans etc., nothing helped.....After spending thousands of dollars, the Doc said if the herbs work, Take Them..So now that my fog is gone, l'm waiting to get my DBS Surgery.......

Thank you, Crystal. It's an honor to be part of your program. This November it will be nine years since my surgery. My tremor is still gone and I'm totally off the carbidopa/levodopa. The only problems I'm having are some balance issues and speech. I'm not convinced that the speech challenge is directly related to the DBS, but rather is a direct symptom of PD.

No, the neurosurgeon says his brain has been way too damaged after almost 20 years of medicine-taking that a surgery would now be too risky and costly for any tangible worthwhile results, especially that he is now 76 years old Still I am so happy to see that this surgery is working for someone else. Parkinson's is a real pain you know!

Thanks for your post. I'm just now going back through the messages and wanted to encourage. Don't worry about being awake for the procedure. Actually in the beginning they keep you in a 'twilight' zone until they're ready to have you interact with them. Once you get past all the lights, activity and electronic equipment, it's no problem. There's no pain. I think birthing 7 children would be a much more difficult task... IMHO. Keep me in the loop. Thanks, Kenny

(contd) As far as the DBS surgery itself, I can't say it was painful .... only ever needed Ibuprofen or Tylenol for the discomfort associated with the incisions. I just had my battery replaced Jan 2013, and it was a quick 20 minute procedure this time -- a little sore, but healed quickly. My best to you Ari --- believing you'll find hope & a full life.

I am so happy for you.. I have had CD for 4 yrs and counting.. just a couple months ago or so I started doing the granny shuffle.. Last Tues before Thanksgiving, I got out of bed only to find out that my legs felt so rubbery and weighted down that I could hardly walk.. Plus my one neuro said I have CD, and PD..along with a host of other issues.. I think I will be finding myself a new neuro, #8 and see what he or she thinks.. and who knows I might have to redo some of the tests over.. but I have to find a clear answer!! I Wish you all the Best!!

Like I posted under your video, my friend (boyfriend) has parkinsons and so far we have been afraid to seriously concider dbs. @COLmegoCOLma Side effects: As long as the electrodes are placed accurately and the programmers are experienced, side effects are minimal. I had a programming session two weeks ago and my meds have been reduced to only 2 sinnemet 25/100 daily. Two months ago, I was taking 6 a day. Before DBS my sinnemet dosage was 6 - 50/250. Consequently, I was always in a drug induced funk. Much better now! Anthem Blue Cross paid for the surgery and MediCal paid the balance.

@greyeyed123
@greyeyed123 3 жыл бұрын
If the best results a Parkinson's patient has on medication is poor, the stimulator will not improve symptoms beyond that result (if the patient has any periods of the medication working well during a typical day, the stimulator is supposed to get you to that result all the time). It's also generally not recommended until the fluctuations with medication are disruptive to everyday living, as there are risks (although low). Neurologists also have to do tests to be certain to rule out other conditions like Multiple Systems Atrophy, which can look very much like Parkinson's. (DBS does not work for MSA, and will make the patient much worse.) My mom is getting her final consultation appointment for DBS on Tuesday, and we are told the procedure might be scheduled as soon as two weeks later. I've read that they may not turn it on for a few weeks after that, but that info might be out of date. I guess we'll find out Tuesday.
