I don't know the feeling as well as you, sir, but I can imagine it. Here in Norway we've become better at cleaning up around the shoreline along our coast, and while it is hardly comparable to the level that Ocean Cleanup have done and is before them, I can't overstate how much difference it seems to have done. Last year the cleaning effort was quite a lot higher than this year, but only because we see that there are so much less plastic and garbage to pick up this year compared to the last. Probably because plastic around the coast simply moves about and drift up close by more often than not. . . but that gives us the opportunity to actually remove it from the ocean more readily. I therefor urge everyone to pick up trash whenever they see it, and dispose of it in the garbage. Because little by little, we can remove that which we can reach by land. And every little piece that we pick up, will no longer be contributing to the tons upon tons that Ocean Cleanup are removing.

I imagine that if it had never been pulled from the ocean it would eventually become a floating island of garbage. I'm so glad that you are working on it now. I took a cruise from CA to HI in 1998 and saw things floating and just couldn't imagine how it got out there. I figured it was accidental and only a few pieces. Boy was I wrong!!!

Crazy idea: let folks volunteer for X number of days/weeks/etc on board helping. Even with personal obligations here I'll bet I could do 2 - 4 weeks. Volunteers fly to port at their expense - then work for food & a genuine story to teach their children/grand-children with.
