It is great to see a small channel gain ground on here! It gives me hope for mine. Like you, I am not in it to get rich, just share any knowledge I have and if I can inspire someone to get into the hobby thats amazing to me! You are doing a great job mate and your skills to work within a budget are very commendable! Keep up the great work! Clear skies to you! ✨🔭

Hey Nugsy, nice to meet you mate😀 You’ve done so well in one year, in fact you’ve got nearly as many subscribers than I have in two years, so really well done👍 Your ‘cheap ass tro’ channel is clearly very popular! I feel the same way mate, I’ve been monetised for a while now, but still don’t feel I can offer anything for a channel membership! But like you said, a thank you option is not a bad idea, I’ll have to think about that for future videos! Keep up the good work mate, I think you did well in front of the camera, for the first time! Clear skies Nugsy👍

The mystery is solved! I've enjoyed listening to the great narrator's voice over the last year, but it's nice to put a face with it, and great to see ya. If I could offer only one piece of advice, it would be to stay humble. Your methods and information will help the majority of people looking to get into the hobby, or learn new things along the way. I was already 3 years deep into the hobby when I ran across your channel, yet I've still learned new (and cheaper) ways of doing things. "Fiddling and fixing things" is definitely a big help to those on a budget in this. Keep the helpful tips coming. Cheers and clear skies!

I'm really happy and proud for you Nugsy. What a cool achievement in a relatively short timeframe! As you stated in your vid, you provide a very niche perspective on this generally expensive hobby and many of us are very much into that. I'm like you in that I'm not fazed by getting tools out or making something that does the job for bugger all. I work very antisocial hours and that kind of drives me to NOT spend silly money on something that I don't get the opportunity to mess about with/enjoy that much- not that I have much disposable income anyhoo 🙂 So yeah, absolutely stoked for you mate and very much look forward to seeing what occurs over the next 12 months!

Well done Nuggsy. Astronomy isn't all about expensive gear, back in the day many people made their own Newtonian scopes, including grinding the main mirror. The few that were commercially available were beyond the financial reach of most people. We made one at school, the only thing that we bought ready to use was the focusser and some eyepieces. I do have some relatively expensive gear but that is probably going to last me the rest of my life. Some people seem to want to buy the latest gear all the time, and not just in astro photography either. I'm in the "if it ain't broke why fix it" camp. So long as your set up gives you the results you want it doesn't matter how much it cost or how old it is. Building an imaging rig that works can be every bit as rewarding as producing the final image, perhaps even more so. I do use free software but I do give a donation if there is a facility for doing so. Sharp Cap is excellent value for money imo and I quite like APT as well. Looking forward to the next twelve months.

Couldn't agree more and I can't believe you made a Newtonian in School... Looking back at the crap I made in school.

At last we get to see you! And that is a good thing Nugsy! You've sounded like a good bloke and now you look like one too! Cheers man and the very best of luck growing the channel. What you produce is more than worth it. And by the way, your natural self is what 'sells' man. Absolutely no need (and it isn't wanted anyhow) to produce some sort of 'smooth, professional', overly edited video with stunning graphics and the rest - you know what I mean. People are far more attracted to 'real'. Oh and one last thing: Never end with "Clear skies". It's like an irritating, religious thing like these 'spiritual' gurus who say "Namaste" to prove they're 'enlightened'. ;-)

Nice to finally see you. You represent a much neglected, but not profitable section of the community, and for that, you are greatly appreciated. Have you considered a planetary camera? I know that's what i use because of the price. I could use a few more pixels, but the crop factor works well on galaxies.
@Cheapass-tro
@Cheapass-tro 6 ай бұрын
Thanks Kittywampus. I actually have an SvBony SV305 with the IMX 290 sensor. That's a pretty tight FOV on my 1000mm scope. I use it for guiding and planetary.

@Cheapass-tro that's right. I'm on a 500mm newt. There's some small galaxies you might try it on though. You've got more light gathering.
