@@Anttimation Obviously our taste is better, we also like metal greatly! I suppose you know books named Finnish Magic and Puiden Kansa, Tree Peoples - I think those might have few ideas to them. Idk how much we can trust the first one, but it was quite funny to read anyhow. The second one kinda explains why forest is pretty much sacred for us even now - all though most of that stuff will not be told about at history class as I suspect. By the way - I am a Finn from France - and you can trust us showing your channel to people sometimes. Depends really how much interest we see in them about this short of stuff. There is also another a topic which people do not seem to mention often - but there was since viking era to early 1700s time when people from Finland and other tribes related were captured, mainly women and kids - to be sold as slaves - I seen some people say that in Russia - but if I don't remember the articles wrong about it they were taken because in areas south of the Black Sea the white skin and blonde hairs were considered valuable merchandise. There are some articles about this online even. Then in 1800s some Finnish Sami were showed along with African tribes people at European zoos. This was much because of the 'mongoloid' classification to us (out dated) - meaning that they would not in fact see us as same as other 'white Europeans' ethnically - due the 'mysterious' origin of us. And further yet - for example in US when Finns went there - some of them found easier to relate and get along with the native american's because they got discriminated against, even before taking part to movements for workers rights - resulting to what they call for example a tribe of Findians. There is one video relatively good about that on Tube. I point this out mostly because those things aren't really told in Finnish schools either - and I wonder if they were more spoken about should that not make even our own less eager to discriminate against others - but also some others realize that we are also a bit different than some other Europeans in the way history at times saw us. I ran but recently into a random video Tube where in the comments some foreigners were putting us together with all the 'colonialist European countries' and I found that some what annoying after I stopped to laugh at the lack of knowledge on history. Modern day seems to be so prepared to makeup all the stories of its own that it is almost unbelievable. There is also a speech about Jews in Finland during the WWII era given by a Jew. I'll paste the link here as the channel name is too long to remember (lol). kzbin.info/www/bejne/m57KgK2aZdOaZ6M Well anyhow. Happy New Year.

@@lyrigageforge3259 thanks! That was a lot of info, I have to read again with better focus 😅 Yeah I've read about the slaves! That, and Finns fighting the Swedish/Russian wars could be interesting topics for future videos. I think some historian has even claimed that the number of Finns sold to slavery (at some point in history?) was greater than in many African countries... Don't know about that
@lyrigageforge3259
@lyrigageforge3259 2 жыл бұрын
@@Anttimation Idk about 'more than African' - but there is some articles about that also in English. It is better to check the sources obviously. I just wished to list some few. I could have put a lot of links, but I think that it's better people find what they want to read on their own. At least mostly we can trust that Finns would do as much anyhow. I just have recently seen a lot of weird stuff said about Nordic countries including Finns by people who obviously don't know the history. And in a way - even your pages about legends online are actually very nice to have for someone like me who lives outside of Finland - cause people do make me questions about Finland. The kind of questions you never thought someone would ask anyhow - lol. Even about the pagan times. There how ever are 'new legends' being made all the time and it is amazing how easily that modern era internet comes up with wrong info as real info. Well like in the comments of a video I recently watched, where several people from former colonial countries were literally including all nations, even Finland, as a former colonial power who did badly towards them in the past and there for deserve to stop existing. That is worst example of them all - but yea - it is at times really crazy out there - in the dark pit of internet - and no not all people are so ignorant or bias. But still - I have started to see having all kind of information about our country, history, culture and even mythology from times before as useful counter weight to what ever could be said. (Or if a Finn is being bit too overly against foreigners too, given that we weren't treated always that nicely ourselves.) It is one thing when some silly comment is a meme - but at times such aren't. If people will see us historically same as some country they hate for historical reason, then when will we have a terrorist attack there. Small pebbles of wrong info wont get there yet, just hate the thought of how easy people like to twist the truth.

What really sucks about YT partnership (aside from the money being laughable) is that even once you hit the 4000 watch hours, you then have to maintain it from there. Which isn’t so much a problem when you’re as pedantic as me and every video you put out anymore is 30 minutes +, but I can only imagine how difficult it is when most of your content is less than five minutes. Keep up the good work. I try to share everyone’s content on my Discord when I can be bothered to remember, so hopefully it helps out.

I think we can nail down the character of Ukko down, considering he seems to fit the same niche as the Norse/Germanic Thor and Baltic Perkunas, who were neighbouring cultures of the ancient Finns (bearded thunder-god with hammer/axe/bow who presides of the weather and agriculture), I mean his alternative name Perkele resembles Perkunas and the Slavic Perun. I read somewhere (Suomalainen samanismi by Anna-Leena Siikala) that Ukko wasn't thrown away immediately with the arrival of Christianity, but that he became an angel of God, similar to Michael, Gabriel or Raphael. But I agree on how the other gods and spirits are quite vague to identify. Especially something like Tursas. Something like Hiisi and Väki can be either entities, locations or supernatural power.

I live in Sweden an just started watching your channel yesterday after searching for Kalevala on youtube. I didnt even know what Kalevala is before I read a comic some years ago ''The Quest of Kalevala'' by Don Rosa. Are you planning on making a video with something like the differences/similarities or something about other finnic groups mythology, like the Mari people or the Saamis?
@Anttimation
@Anttimation 2 жыл бұрын
Thanks for watching! Yeah us Finns love Don Rosa's stories, and that was a nice gesture of acknowledging it. I have a series of videos coming that go through the story of Kalevala. I compare Finnish mythology to others as much as I can in the videos, but something like that could be nice to do. I'm not very familiar with Mari or Sami mythology so atm there's no point making a video that would only summarize Wikipedia articles. Maybe st a later point with some research!

Toki niiltä ajoilta on säilynyt lähteitä ihan eri lailla vrt. esihistorialliseen aikaan, mutta nyt koulusta jäi vähän sellainen vaikutelma että suomalaisten menneisyys alkaa vasta jostain 1500-1600-luvulta...

If you walked around the downtown area, you could do everything that you had to do without knowing a single word of English. I don't recommend it but it is possible.
