So glad I am not wheeling anymore! What spare money I have that I haven't spent on my bikes goes into restoring this 100plus year old farmstead and house. We will be buying another rear wheel for our touring bike and mounting a car tire on it. In the motorcycle community we call it "dark siding". Going to the dark side with our bike will aid in the longevity of the tire and control of the extra weight with the trailer on the bike. Not to mention it'll last up to 30,000 miles where the most I've ever gotten out of a motorcycle tire was just under 10,000 miles. But I was pushing it and finished a long distance run on a slick. I have some idea what you folks spend to maintain your rigs and tires still are the biggest expense. I enjoyed my Mickey Thompson tires on my last rig but changing out my BFG street tires at every trail head was a pain in my left foot. Back then many of us ran a wider wheel and tire on the rear axle to continue through ruts in the mud made by our narrower front tires. The sheer horse power it takes to move your tires impresses me and it makes me wonder. What is original on your Mischief Maker? My bet is the E brake pedal and glove box, but I would love to see a video on the factory parts that are tough enough to survive your kind of wheeling. You are in my prayers Hoka Hey

Currently I have Milestar Patagonia M/T's (265-70x17) with 36K miles and have worn them down. I was considering the Mickey Baja Boss M/T (33-12.50x17). Now also considering these new Baja Boss A/T's. @walterfowler47203 жыл бұрын
They do not hold up at all. The Baja Pro X is not a DOT tire and should not see a lot of pavement over the course of their life...That said, if you do choose to use them on pavement, they will wear extremely quickly and they will be super loud (even at low speeds).

All of my armor is from GenRight Offroad except my Artec Industries Underbelly Skid Plates. Both MischiefMaker and GRDLOC are registered and insured for the road, although I don’t often drive MM on the road due to his Baja Pro X sticky tires. GRDLOC, on the other hand, runs the DOT approved Baja Pro XS and could easily be driven daily, but he is a trailer queen. Neither rig is really something you would want to commute in - they are purpose-built rock crawlers.

I have run Mickey's in the past and I'm back to a set now but the real question is- had they not provided you with a set, would you have purchased a second set yourself or would you have explored other brands?
@MischiefMakerTV4 жыл бұрын
kswyg thats a great question and the short answer is: Yes. The performance of the sticky compound of the Baja Pro X is absolutely stellar in places like Utah, California, Arizona and Texas. I also found them to be extremely effective in the slick, clay/mud in Tennessee and Georgia. Even though I rarely spin them fast enough to clear them out when they are caked with clay, the tread pattern always seems to find traction and gets me where I want to go. The only mix of terrain that has consistently given me trouble is loose-packed sand and dirt mixed with rocks. These tires tear up terrain that isn’t firm - you can spin them a few times and dig out a good 3-4ft hole (I sometimes feel terrible for the people behind me in those situations 😅). In areas like Michigan and Indiana, a more consistent tread pattern like what you see in the Baja Boss would probably be more effective IMO. I couldn’t imagine switching to a different brand at this time, but I am still hoping they come out with a 42” sticky version of the Baja Boss - that would be interesting to try out. I have been fortunate enough to spend a lot of time hanging out with the folks who engineer and design Mickey Thompson’s offroad tires. They actually join us on some of our trail runs at EJS and KOH and take time to listen to their ambassadors’ and customers’ feedback, which is really great to see from a company & they have a lot of exciting things planned - just compare SEMA 2018 to SEMA 2019. It’ll be interesting to see what 2020 brings for MT!

7:02 Is that at the Badlands in Indiana? Was there with a group of friends this past summer and a couple people with JKU's on 40"s tried that obstacle and never made it. One had Nitto Grappler M/T's and the other had Cooper Discoverer's and neither found grip to pull themselves up Have you lost a bead when you run them at low pressure with the KMC wheels?
@MischiefMakerTV4 жыл бұрын
muddyWW that is a tough obstacle for sure and I was lucky to have an awesome spotter named Troy Wolford guiding our group. I will admit, I tried this same obstacle the next day and didn’t one-time it - struggled quite a bit 😅. As for tire pressure, once the tires were broken in I typically ran them at 10psi front and 8psi rear...but before that I would regularly have them at 5psi and they would burp air out the back, but I’ve never lost an inside bead.

So what rims are you sporting on that rig? And as for the sticky's.. I heard you cant use Sticky tires up here in Alaska as it gets too cold for them (it was -38F this morning here in some spots). I wish someone made a sticky tire that would work well on snow/ice and deep snow, kinda like a blizzak with a deep self clearing tread that could also handle cold extreme's. Kinda like the rubber in artic ortec air hose (flexible at -60F from personal experience) but with the above criteria as well. Not sure it's chemically possible, but it would be cool if they could get close.
