the electronics and battery alone will cost you that much

A retail price of all components needed is about $1k (I say 'hi' to bankrupts who sold that for $12-17k). But if you like to make most of the components by yourself, I guess, you can save yet more $300. However, an equipment needed for a success could easy exceed $2k -)
