I wrote my audio engineering thesis paper on Voodoo. The journey they went through to create, mix, and master this album is truly a masterclass on the blending of analog and digital recording. D'Angelo is such a genius and the musicians he surrounded himself with were the best in the industry, and most of them said that it was one of the most difficult albums to write and record. The effort was well worth it!

I always found D'Angelo to be very similar to PRINCE! Maybe I'm far off saying this or maybe not.......but, I STILL have this album 15 years later! :-D Every damn track on it is virtually perfect!

Kool and the gang - Sea of tranquillity. In this masterpiece that Voodo is D'angelo writes beautiful music, but he can also take inspiration from the best rearranging funk classics, managing to create something new and yet timeless like this song. He did the same with that live version of brown sugar you can find on the tube, arranged on four play by fred wesley... Such an underrated genius, a great musician, a true music lover.
