Good morning, Mamas!!! ☕️ Thank you for being here! Why is finding THE math curriculum SO hard sometimes?! Any other Saxon users here? If not, what do you use (and love)? 💜

Hi. I was tgtb old style user and Loved it but I'll be out after this year. The new is too long. I was going to Apologia but it is mastery. Eeekk That worries me. I taught for a long time in public school too so over analyzing here. My girl uses TT but it doesn't work for him. Twins- who knew! So now I'm thinking about Saxon.

Is Saxon common core? I’m using abeka currently and this is our first year homeschooling, i have a 5th and 3rd grader, and was told about Saxon..would love to know if there is much difference between the 2 curriculums before I switch( if I need to. Thanks

I’m 42 and I used Saxon in the 90s as a child. I did either 5th or 6th in public school and then algebra 1 and 2 as a homeschooler. I really enjoyed Saxon as a child and I also just loved algebra. Now I’m starting to teach my almost 5 year old and will probably use Saxon once I feel ready to move past TGTB which we are loving as well. Excited to learn about the math lady. Thanks for that info.

I've been considering switching my upcoming highschool freshman from Teaching Textbooks to Saxon Math. With the addition of Nicole the Math Lady, and watching your review, it's given me the push I needed to take the plunge. Thank you for the insight. I really enjoy watching your videos!

Yeah that would be great. If your kid wants to go into STEM, TT isn't enough, Saxon is a great curriculum for high school. Algebra 1, Algebra 2, and Advanced Math combine an equivalent of one year of geometry. then the last book is Calculus (very helpful to have exposure to as a high school student).

Katie used Saxon through Algebra 1 and then switched to Shormann math through calculus. Saxon is a strong math program. We never used Nicole but we did use Dive for Algebra 1, which is done by Dr. Shormann, and we liked it so much we just switched to his math the next year.

We loved the DIVE dvd but our DVD player took a dump and we can’t justify buying a new one because we usually stream movies now. Is Shormann still Saxon and is there a way to stream it?

I have a 6 year old using The Good and the Beautiful new Kindergarten math and we love love love it! Her sister has been using Saxon for 2 years now. I love Saxon so much, it’s so basic and simple. Her sister is in 8th grade and has ADHD so Saxon is great because it’s harder for her to get distracted. I’m watching this video because this is the first time in our Saxon journey that I haven’t been able to help my daughter (without the solutions manual which is a heaven sent if you are notmathematically talented) so we were considering adding Nicole the Math lady. I did comment so I could share how amazing The Good and the Beautiful new math and language arts is but also how amazing Saxon is.

Great video! We are in our second year homeschooling and started with Saxon 1, 3 and Pre Algebra last year. I did not know about Nicole the Math Lady then so I had to correct all the work and grade myself. My struggling 3rd grader last year was in tears so many times- I gave her a choice this year and she went with Simply Good and Beautiful Math 4 (which she loves). I think because Saxon was difficult for her (because she didn't have addition and subtraction facts memorized she was afraid to use it again). I prefer Saxon, I think it is more rigorous. Of course I had already bought 5/4. We re using Saxon 2 and Algebra 1 this year and Saxon is perfect for the 2nd grader and 8th grader- I use the videos and online grading for Algebra 1- it saves me about an hour of work a day! Glad it is working for your daughter, math is tough!!!!

Did your child go from 8/7 to Algebra 1 for 8th? My 7th grader is using 8/7 but not sure if he will be ready for Alg 1 next year so I’m planning on Alg 1/2 for 8th. He’s pretty decent in math but doesn’t love it. Thanks!
@sarahbennett72352 жыл бұрын
@@MW11-3 We jumped into homeschooling last year due to covid and terrible experience e learning. His school had said he should be taking Pre Algebra in 7th based on his math scores- he is very good in math and always testing above grade level. My son basically doesn't love school at all but is gifted (luckily) so he will be going back to public school for high school in the fall. I can tell you he loved Nicole the Math Lady and I get to hear all the Corny brain breaks. I have heard you can go from 8/7 to Algebra 1- but I would suggest maybe talking to the folks at Rainbow Resource their consultants have been sooo helpful. Good Luck!

Would you move from TGTB math 3 to this? Or would it fall after level 4? And do you have her write in a separate notebook or on the text book?
