Goncalves is genuinely special I think. I have never seen someone actually stand toe to toe with Rodtang before. Theres usually a point in a match where it's pretty apparent that Rodtang has won but not with this fight. If they didn't knock him for his backwards movement I think he would have possibly beat Rodtang in points but either way damn impressive fight. One day this man might actually beat Rodtang
@hsablusay5299 Жыл бұрын

Rodtang's face had more lumps compared to the challenger's that looks fresh and unmarked. Goncalves performance is very impressive. And his head movement and precision are on another level. Though Rodtang power is evident, he failed to land much though he could have probably KO'd the elusive Brazilian had he landed any of those haymakers. What a battle between these two great exponents of the Art of 8 Limbs!

definitely a close decision but if you understand how muay thai is scored you’d know that it’s not about the number of shots landed. composure is important and showing that the narrative of the fight is going in your favour. you can’t run away in a muay thai fight and expect to win. modern stadium muay thai favours clinch so they stay quite close to each other these days but if u watch golden era muay thai there was a lot of retreating after scoring a point in order to emphasise that they won that exchange. what the golden era fighters were doing is out scoring in an exchange and then slinking away showing the judges that they won that exchange. if walter had put on that sort of performance but remained more composed and didn’t use illegal throws he could have arguably won the decision.

For sure a close fight. Goncalves is clearly very skilled and elusive but has to balance his evasive techniques with enough aggression to prevent it from looking like he is retreating or running away. In round 3 he even drops to the ground and gives his back to avoid a counter attack because the rules prevent Rodtang from hitting a grounded opponent. It looks bad and I bet some of the rounds were decided by that fact alone. Rodtang has an interesting technique where he will intentionally trade blows while tucking in his chin and offering the thickest part of his skull to numb the damage. It's almost like he is trying to headbutt the incoming fists. Crazy stuff.
@caimanaraujo4792 жыл бұрын

In Muay Thai the judges will often times award more points to whichever fighter is more aggressive. Muay Thai isn’t just about fighting. They are supposed to be putting on an entertaining show as well. Whenever one fighter is retreating the entire time it makes for a less entertaining fight and the judges will definitely punish you in the points for doing so.

Thank you again RodTang! (Road Tank) again for a another great fight!
@MaroonedInDub3 жыл бұрын
His name is simply Tank. Not road tank. Road in Thai is "tanon". It should be pronounced "Rot" รถ which means it's refering to a vehicle. รถถัง

Yes, I was thinking the same after the first round. If Walter had had the same experience as Rodtang, he most definitely would win.

What happened to Goncalves? I watched his fight against Momotaro where he got a leg injury, but no news about it?
@T.Akara19713 жыл бұрын
Goncalves is a good fit for Rodtang and surely deserves a rematch. But keep in mind that in this fight Rodtang knocked him down once or twice which should have made it a 10-8 round.

Gonclaves= great fighter Rodtang = great muaythai fighter. Looks personally to me at least, gonclaves has been training some MMA with his close takedowns and bobbing and weaving as well as heavy on counter striking, which I personally like, but in muay Thai scoring, the fighter on the forefoot And aggressor in favourited. Maybe different outcome & scoring if a kickboxing fight & rules. Love them both, great fighters and respect, that’s why I enjoy ONE more than ufc.

From the look of the fighters' faces, I think Walter Goncalves should have been the winner. He backed away because Rodtang is physically stronger, not because he was scared; like some said. He used the tactics he thought would serve him better. His counters were more effective than Rodtang attacks, Gonsalves landed more shots on target. But when the match is close, spineless judges always favor the champion. They are two awesome fighters and that's a fact.

I think in Muay Thai, back peddling like that loses you points. .. Also Walter was officially knocked down twice in the match so... no he definitely didn't win. good fighter, and good effort though. Maybe in UFC he could have edged it (minus the knockdowns)

Closed fight so the champ won. If Walter wanted to win badly, he must go forward to dominate the champ to get a belt instead of running around like Mayweather.
