You gotta put your self in Goncalves' shoes tho. He knows rodtang has a iron chin coupled with some serious KO power. There's no way Goncalves is gonna stand and bang with him even when Rodtang tries to get in his head and taunt. Instead, he utilized footwork and head movement to circle the cage, avoiding rodtangs strikes. I'd understand if Goncalves wasn't striking while retreating but he was actually displaying some clean striking. His gamplan was smart and effective, just not enough to the judges.

Everyone talks really big, but if in the same situation would only hope to fight as smart as he did. Rodtang is a beast and I don't know about Thai fighting and fighting culture, but one thing is for certain, he avoided taking clean hits from him and fight on opportunity and that, at least for me, made a very beautiful and interesting fight. I see where your coming from though tai fighting is a consistent forward never back down maximize damage with volume and high levels of speed and force. Understood but on the other hand your body is your tool and without that tool you cant continue to make money plus idk if you ever been kicked likevthat but it hurts like hell and penetrates to the bone especially if you don't see it coming. Mobility angles counters are your best weapon against a tank thats common knowledge. Sometimes to win a fight it's not necessarily how fun it is to watch or how action packed it is. Much like watching mma and watching dudes grapple when they could stand people dog them but the reality is most every fight goes to the ground and you must be able to survive. Same with stand up sometimes it's not pretty and you have to fight off the back foot to win much the same way as life. People forget fighting is not about entertainment infact martial arts was never meant to be put on spectacle as competition to make money at in the first place it was designed for survival and war. To some degree, having these arts being used to make money for fame is kind of disrespectful, making them more of thugs for hire in a way for games. Bet some of these masters are rolling in their graves. Just my 2 cents. But hey, times have changed. And in martial arts, a common thing among all of them is to use your surroundings to win. Although I believe backward movement is fround upon here. And will be ruled rodrang unless he's knocked out or it's one-sided. But he made rodtang hurt you can see it.

The only one who got dropped and rocked multiple times throughout the fight was Goncalves. He was tricky, he was frustrating, and he is skilled. But he did NOT win unless you think being frustrating = winning. Also, how can you be a fan of Rodtang but not be a fan of Muay Thai? In Muay Thai rules, body kicks score heavily and Rodtang kept kicking to the body. From a Muay Thai rules perspective Rodtang won.
