If doing this by hand, it makes more sense to drill the 1/16" through holes first. That will allow you to locate the center point of the forstner bit and get that properly aligned. More importantly, when flipping over to drill the 1/4" holes from the bottom, they'll be centered. Doing the forstner drilled hole first makes it more likely the 1/16 and 1/4" holes will be off center. Or use the 1F to drill the holes for you. I used a 1/8" bit with spiral drilling for the qtr inch holes and the 3/8" pockets. Took about 15 minutes per big board and half that for the two narrow side boards. I have a VCarve file for it so I can make replacements at any time.

Would you be willing to share that file? Just about to drill mine and was thinking it would be better to do with the CNC.

FYI for everyone, there is a way to lock a drill bit into a drill so it doesn’t come loose and fall out during use like you saw at the 4:02 time stamp. Simply secure the bit by turning the chuck by hand until tight, the turn the chuck in opposite direction until you get one click. Your drill chuck is now locked and bit won’t fall out during use. It’s a hidden feature some drill manufacturers don’t even know that exists! 👍🏻

Note that for a Journeyman the small slats are NOT 3" but rather 1 5/8" See the manual! If not the 3" overlaps the mounting holes for the rails.

@@danielstein8320 slats so easy to replace from the bottom when I’ve done it. Only had to do it once and that was because I dropped a heavy vice on it by accident. Took 2mins to rip a new piece on the table saw and 30sec to unscrew the old and re-screw the new. Still loving the decision to go secure from below.

Great Video...i'm assuming that 1F did all the necessary measurements so that when this is surfaced (with lets say a 1" bit), it will surface the entire area and not leave an overhang? Also, it would be freaking amazing, if 1F could upload the template files for both journeyman and woodworker in advance so the customers who are waiting for their machines can get this done beforehand.

why would you choose secure from above over secure from below? I don't get it? I don't plan on running my bits into the waste board (or at least not very deep).

QCW Frame Manual "Click here to download" in Support section is not clickable. Also, do you have CNC file for the wasteboards? It seems like we should just be able to create these boards with our cnc.
