How To Reset Echo Dot 2nd Generation

We teach you how to reset Echo Dot 2nd generation devices. The 2nd generation devices are all plastic while the 3rd generation Echo Dot devices have a fabric outer shell. To reset the Echo Dot 2nd generation you need to do the following:
1. Make sure the device is on.
2. With the device on hold down on the microphone button and the volume down button for 20-30 seconds until the device displays a yellow/orange flashing ring.
3. With the device in reset mode you can let your finger off the buttons. Give the device 1-2 minutes to complete the reset sequence and it will be then reset to factory default settings and can be setup again on a new account.

Thank you this worked for me! I changed my WiFi like two months ago and this was the only fix after going down Reddit hole and KZbin. The trick for me was pressing the reset button until the light came on (I did follow the instructions first)Did it again and then I was able to set up my echo!

Hi, thank you for the video but in my case even after reseting the echo dot, the light never changes from blue to orange. the application in my phone says that the echo dot is not connected. It is less than 2 meters from the modern and it is powered because it lights up when there is noise, but it does not connect to wi-fi, what can I do?.

I've never heard of that issue. Maybe try going to the device settings for that device and see it the device is muted or the volume is down low. Has it always done it? If so maybe the speaker is broken?

Sorry to answer 5 months later but maybe it will benefit someone else stumbling upon this thread-Per Amazon’s listing: “Echo devices connect to Wi-Fi networks that are used in most homes (Wi-Fi (2.4 GHz / 5 GHz) networks that use the 802.11a / b / g / n standard). Echo devices can't connect to ad-hoc (or peer-to-peer) networks.”
