Got about 3 of them. used them in the infamous Moria refugee camp on Lesbos in Greece which is known to be one of the filthiest refugee camps on earth. I dare say the pond I took my water from was dirtier than the pond in your video but like you the water came out sparkling clean, tasting better than bottled water from the supermarket and I knew it was 100% safe to drink as no water born pathogen known to man can get through the filter in the Lifesaver water bottle.

I’ve got one and the Jerry can. Have the extra filters that come wrapped in foil which lasts 10 years. I have them for emergency use when the SHTF one day. My neighbor has a pond and creek

LifeSaver water filters will remove microbiological contamination from urine, however as there is a certain amount of salt in urine the resulting water will contain a level of salt, which LifeSaver technology cannot remove. We suggest that you could potentially filter urine up to four times before the salt levels become dangerous. It is recommend that you seek alternative freshwater sources before using LifeSaver products in this way.

my mate ian who is also a bike packer, told me to only get water from where it is flowing, we did once have to get water from a puddle and we put it through two filters, i did not use the water but my mate told me it tasted like horse muck, but he never got ill from it, so the combination of the two filters and boiling the water worked. we both use a travel tap filter, and a sawyer squeeze for when we need to filter twice.

That looks pretty good, what is the shelf life of the product. How often does the filter need to be replaced? At the filters expensive? 👍

@@gatti493 I've had trouble getting proper answers to these questions. If the bottle is anything like Livesaver's other products, then the shelf life is indefinite until primed (the coating washed off the filter) the filter will need to be kept wet once primed (if it dries it will need to be replaced) and will work for 4000 litres. There appears to be separate charcoal, cartridge and sponge replacement filters available.

I wouldn't use hands to open the drinking teat if your hands have come in contact with the contaminated water. Btw they have a new bottle out now called Lifesaver Liberty and it's the same technology but smaller and has more features.

Surely if you kept on pouring very dirty water into it, with a lot of silt / dirt etc, it would get totally blocked and full of dirt & mud? So how would you prevent this?

Filters are consumable, you have to replace them after 1000 gallons. Each filter is $60.

FAILED: he cross contaminated the drinking spout THREE TIMES with his dirty fingers here: 4:23, 4:48, and 5:02. The flaw in the design of this bottle is: (a) the drinking end goes in dirty water protected only by a cap that can lead to mistakes with cross-contamination. (b)whose seal may break due to mechanical failure after repeated uses (c) droplets from the dirty cap may reach the spout under certain conditions; (d) you must use your teeth/mouth to pull/push that spout. The benefit compared to e.g. MSR Guardian and First Need XLR is fewer moving parts for pumping action giving potentially improved reliability. This is a super reliable system, if and only if one can maintain laboratory-level hygiene practices and not contaminate that spout. I suspect most people can’t when hot, tired, or under stress.

It's a good system for what it was intended for, apart from the cost of it. Personally on tests I've done I've come to the conclusion that it's not very practical for bushcraft or travaling.

They do OK . We were issued these in Afghanistan at one per fireteam. They held up well and filtered the local well water to a good standard (the wells were full of all kinds of crap, bloodworms etc). You did need to protect them a bit, so they lived in the middle of the daysack.

How is it a scam? It filters down to .015 microns. Buy something cheaper as you say, and it doesn't filter past .2 microns, which isn't enough to stop viruses from passing through You trying to make people sick, or are you just stupid?
