Nodule colours change from pinkish(healthy/working) to brown/green as plant ages and function decreases. Perhaps.

Wes, you had a very smokey year from fires. We notice when it's like that here we get really good plant growth. Tomatos, do awesome. I wonder if the soil has over nitrogen. Just my thoughts.

Did I miss the north-south roots? Most seemed to be east-west roots, indicating compaction. Would also affect the nodule development.

Across a consistent field, with a count of # of good nodules, how much N does that equate to per acre theoretically?

Would it be anything to do with the late sowing date? I know that clover does not produce nitrogen till the second year after you sow it.

Is the wheat litter / wheat growth holding up your nitrogen? Once that completely breaks down i wonder if your levels will jump up

Maybe there is enough leftover nitrogen from your wheat I have herd beans can get fooled that’s y you shouldn’t add nitrogen or they won’t produce there own Just a thought

Learn alot from your content wes. Honestly wes the penergetic may be working so well on your wheat stubble and previous stubble that you have alot of available nutrients making the beans lazy. Your nutrient cycling is really engaged by how you farm and the products you use. Would low rhizobia bacteria make the nodules be green? You inoculate your soybeans? Thanks again for sharing your journey

Not that I would know, could the green be chlorophyll before it’s converted to nitrogen, also very overcast in Maine, I’ve only seen white as well.
