Best show I've seen. We were in the seats. We are going back to see it from the floor. Don't miss out folks. It's wonderful!

My friend and I had the best time on the floor, and we got 2 of the Hot Box seats during intermission. It was so much fun!

Fantastic show, Loved it! Agreed - that bar scene between Sarah and Adeleide was goosebump city. Outstanding.

There are two shows going on at the same time each night. They are both "Guys & Dolls" but one is seen from those seated and the other is seen by those standing. I was lucky enough to NOT get a seat and stand during the performance. And it was one of the best shows I have ever seen. The immersive quality is something I have never experienced in this way before. I was in motion for much of the show. Moving closer to a platform at one point and standing back a way at another point. It all felt so fresh and new. Exhilarating. I may be spoiled for any other show where I merely sit passively in the audience.

It is designed as an immersive show, but I was seated and I still loved it.

@@TheatreReviewsWithPaulSeven Go again, but stand. Seriously. It’s a totally different experience. The ushers/police do a great job of making the show work

For all this time, any idea why the Bridge Theatre is not a member of SOLT, the voting body of the Olivier Awards? The minimum requirement for a production to be nominated is the venue must be a member of the Society of London Theatre, but Bridge productions were never eligible because it’s not part of SOLT. (The newest theatre, @sohoplace, is now a SOLT member, although commercial theatres/the core West End are required to be part of SOLT) Has Nick Hytner changed his mind, given the critical and commercial success of Guys & Dolls? (And they have plans for the show to have a longer life)

I didn’t realise the Bridge isn’t a member of SOLT, especially since it takes SOLT’s Theatre Tokens in payment. I’d give you 100 to 1 on Guys And Dolls winning some Olivier Awards if it was eligible. Perhaps Nicholas Hytner doesn’t approve of theatre shows being in competition.

As you say, Nathan Detroit was written for the non-singing actor Sam Levene. No real singing was required from him, which is why there are hardly any overlapping vocal lines in the 'Sue Me' duet. So Mays probably sang the part better than the original. The part was 'written up' for Sinatra in the film, putting him into numbers in which Nathan does not sing and giving him a new solo.
@TheatreReviewsWithPaulSeven Жыл бұрын
As a singer, Daniel Mays is no Frank Sinatra but he acquits himself very well. Apparently Frank Loesser deliberately wrote the chorus of Sue Me as a simple scale to make it easier for Sam Levine to sing.

Frank Sinatra was totally miscast in the film. It's not a romantic lead role, but a comic one.
@hobhood7118 Жыл бұрын
@@harpy61 Absolutely. Apparently, Phil Silvers was up for Nathan in the film at one point. Perfect casting. As Sinatra wanted to play Sky (which would have worked well) he 'posted in' his performance and it shows.

@@hobhood7118 Apparently Phil Silvers started as a singer, so it would have been great! And I've always thought Sinatra would have been perfect as Sky. It was clearly the role for him.
