This is the harshest water resistant test being done on the OP5. It does seem to have passed with flying colors considering the fact that this phone is not advertised as a water resistant phone. Don't know if there were any after effects to the cruel water test. Kudos if the phone is still alive :D :D :D Definitely one of the best water test till date on OP5 ... Well done !!

Quick story .... I had a moto g before I switched to 3T. One day I dropped it on a bucket full of water for more than 2 seconds. The phone suddenly went berserk and turned off. I was all worried and shit since I didn't have a backup phone and I remembered reading somewhere that putting a wet phone in a sack full of rice will dry it out quickly and make it functional again. Myself being an experimental guy decided to put my phone in a sack of rice and left it for the night. The next day when I picked it up and turned it on... Voila it turned back on without any issue. This was around a year back. I never had any sort of issue with the phone again even though it was in water for a whole 2-3 seconds. The phone is still working fine and is being used by my mom. Moral of the story : If a three year old phone can survive a water drop overnight imagine the phones nowadays even without IP rating. I am saying this only because I saw people trying to point out that IP rating is a must and if 1+ added them then price would be justified. But the premium companies are asking you to pay more for a feature (works on a basic level) that almost all phones have no matter the ratings, you must ask yourself why you have been spending more money for that? It is your money of course... But still most people are not in favor of throwing away money like this!!! Just my opinion.

Rahul Raveendran moto g series is claimed to be splash resistant by the company. It's in the specifications of the phone that it has some kind of nanocoating and is splash resistant. So it should survive 1,2 seconds in water. It may not be the same with other new phones.

A phone with a ip 67 or 68 rating will not turn off after dropping in water and dropping a oneplus 5 in a small box of carbonated water is not a big deal If he has enough guts let him drop the oneplus 5 into a swimming pool and check if it would survive😁 I'm pretty sure it wont😃

Guys I've seen an interview with the italian manager. He said that OnePlus 5 is waterproof for the everyday life (e.g. drop in the toilet or rain). They simply not certified it because the IP certification costs.

No, nothing was wrong with the test, but thats also my point. The OnePlus 5 seems really good at repelling water and what I'm saying is if OnePlus would have gave the OnePlus 5 a IP67 or IP68 Water Resistance certification, then maybe people wouldn't complain as much about the price increase. But maybe Oneplus will put the certification on the OnePlus 6.

That "paint chip" you pointed out.... It's not a paintchip nor scratch. If you look close enough, you'll notice it's connected to the antenna band. OnePlus apparently decided to make use of the steel frame of the camera as a small antenna. It's present in all the OnePlus 5's (at least the first batch). Can't attribute it to that, of course, but I must say that the OP5 has the best bluetooth and WiFi reception of any phone I've tried. As of now, I'm comparing it to the Pixel, LG V20 and HTC 10.

The Oneplus 5 is water resistant, the company pushed the phone to market prior to obtaining a water resistant rating. I am sure future version(s) will carry the rating.

It survived for at least 2 days after this video was made, since his drop test of the phone was aired 2 days after this video. Before the last drop killed the phone it worked perfectly and there was no water coming out of the holes and there was no water under the camera glass or the screen to be seen. It seems the OP5 has SOME WATER RESISTANCE. Zacks teardown video of the OP5 showed that there is no special adhesive or rubber in place to make the phone water resistant. My conclusion is, that you can defitinely use this device in the rain without being worried, but that is about it.

using sparkling water is actually a terrible idea. Because you can't see if there are any air bubbles leaving the phone, plus, corrosion can be a real issue in the future! Good test tho! Good to see that it (for me at least) passed the test.

I noticed you did not test the alert slider in the video. My OP5 was submerged in a pool for less than a second, and its alert slider hardly ever works now. I'm actually pretty surprised by this considering how quickly the phone was submerged. I hope this video doesn't instill a false sense of confidence for some - this phone should not be exposed to water.

the point is that not only would they need to pay for the certification process, they would also need to account for refunds on water damaged phones (both justified and not). Since the policy of Oneplus is basically no expensive bullshit and bloatware it makes perfect sense to not go for water resistance. Who seriously drops his phone in a 1m deep well for 30 minutes? Im perfectly fine with it being not dead after being shortly submerged. My old Galaxy Ace 2 survived me going for a unplanned swim in a lake for 10 minutes, so I don't see that being a issue with any kind of smartphone.

If you guys watching OP 5 launch event in China, Pete mentioned that OP 5 is DAILY LIFE WATER RESISTANT like Google pixel. you can put it under the tap water but don't take it to the swimming pool. BTW sour/acid could damage the phone…

Gilberto Remate ....I have seen it in an OP article somewhere while extensively researching about the phone...they said that the reason y they didn't declare OP5 to be water resistant is bcuz it didn't pass IP68 , so they didn't want to be responsible for any water damage...but as it's IP67 ...it can pass water tests....the phone was opened up and checked...there was rubber coating at the sides of the camera, charge unit and audio jack...which is there in all types of water resistant phones...

I have a one plus 2... got wet in a five minute fast rain.... and after that in some time faced issues in understanding that phone got wet... after keeping mobile switched off for about two hours I switched it on... it seemed to work fine except for some water dripping on screen... so I thought I survived but later in evening the screen blacked out nd by night my mobile died... ice in motherboard went out due on water.... how can we be sure similar type of damage won't occur in one plus 5

That's stupid to do. Even if it's working. The inside will get rusted along with the type c port . And there's definitely water in the inside. Guarantee your phone will start experiencing issues.
