OnePlus 6: First 10 Things to Do!

1) NOTCH: Turn the notch "off" if you don't like it, by going Settings > Display > Notch Display. 2) ALERT SLIDER: The alert slider above the power button changes your phone sound modes from silent, vibrate, and ringer. Settings > Alert Slider to customize a little bit what happens for each setting. 3) SECURITY: Settings > Security & Lock Screen. You can set your locking method to pattern, PIN, or password. Or unprotected with None or Swipe. You can also add your fingerprint to unlock the phone, so you can just put your finger on the reader and it'll unlock fast. (Don't forget to buy a microfiber cloth to clean the back every once in a while cause it's a finger print magnet) TIP: Set up index finger for both hands so you can unlock with either hand. There's also face unlocking, so your phone will remember what you look like and unlock immediately when it sees you. it's a super fast method. 4: CUSTOMIZATION: You can add widgets and change your wallpaper and what not on the home screen. You can also add gestures to the OnePlus launcher so you can swipe down on the home screen to bring the notification bar/quick items area. You can swipe down from the top and click the edit button (looks like a pencil) to drag and rearrange the icons such as WiFi, Bluetooth, and Battery Saver and place your 6 most useful items first in the list, so they show up first. 5: BUTTONS: You can either use the 3 button setup at the bottom (Back, Home, and Recent Apps), or the Gestures option which is a nice feature to have your screen take up, well, all of the screen. With Gestures mode on (Settings > Buttons > Navigation bar & Gestures) and turning the "Hide Navigation Bar" on, you will swipe up from the bottom to bring the Navigation bar up. If you click "Use Gestures" you don't use the nav bar at all. If you swipe up from the bottom of the screen in the middle, you will go home. If you swipe up from the more left or more right sides, you go back, and if you swipe up from the center and hold for a quick millisecond, you go to recent apps. In Settings > Buttons, having "Double Tap for Camera" will make it so if you press your power button twice relatively fast, you will open the camera app (or another you set up). If you want to have pressing and holding your home button to do something else than Google Assistant, or double tapping your home button to do something, you can set that up in Settings > Buttons as well. You do need to have Gestures mode off for that though (I think) 6: GESTURES II: In Settings > Gestures, you can set stuff up to have your phone mute an incoming call if you flip the phone over and flip it back, or swipe up from the bottom of the screen with 3 fingers to screenshot (the default is Power buttton and Volume down button). You can also double tap to wake your phone. (Double tap to sleep is in Home Screen gestures). You can draw on your lock screen to enable things. (Or screen off). If you draw a O, V, or a few more letters, you can set it to do things. 7: STATUS BAR (NOTIFICATION BAR): Settings > Status Bar, you can change the status bar to not show your battery or other stuff like that up there. You can also turn other stuff off up there like VoLTE, NFC, and Hotspot so you can clear up the clutter on the status bar, cause the Notch does not leave a lot of space up there. 8: VOLUME SETTINGS: In Settings > Sound & vibration, you can change your volume buttons to default change media volume or ringer volume. You can also change Do Not Disturb preferences, and change what happens when you plug in earbuds. You can adjust your vibration strength as well for certain things. 9: ADVANCED SETTINGS: You can schedule your phone to power off to reboot daily and give it some time to chill out at night when you know you're not using it. You can also turn Gaming Mode on when certain apps are open (your games) and have your phone silence notifications and calls and supress them as well to stop visual disturbances. You can also check out Recent App Management and change what the App Cleaner icon in the Recent app window does. Usually, when you click the button to swipe away all of your recent apps it clears the cache of opened apps but does not kill background processes. You can change the setting to Deep Clear, which clears background processes which may hammer battery life. 10: CAMERA: Open the camera. Of course you got 4K and Bokeh effect in portrait mode with some depth of field and beauty effects. If you swipe up from the bottom, you get other camera options like SlowMotion (awesome), Pro Mode, Time-Lapse, and Panorama. You may also view the settings of your camera app by swiping up to reveal the Cog icon at the top right. You can turn off location data if you don't want people to know where you've really been. You can change the grid on your camera app, and you can turn off or tweak the beauty modes to save post-processing battery. You can also turn off the "Shot On OnePlus" watermark. You can also Save Normal Photos, which will save your photo that has Depth of Field or other enhancement effects, and it will also save a second photo without special effects. There's 10 tips. Cool.

3:20 screen locks (pattern, PIN, fingerprint) are NOT safe at all, you can still get pass through it - factory reset the phone with buttons. The only thing that matters when you lose your phone is a logged Gmail account. It's much harder (if not impossible) to get through a logged in Gmail account unless you sign out manually.

There's a gesture for multitasking where you swipe up and hold for a second. Then just hold the app you want to use on split-screen and drop it in the split-screen box on the top. 😁

I agree it's an annoyance, but they can't have automatic do not disturb and the alert slider. I would get you into a situation where the software and hardware state wouldn't match and make for a confusing user experience. It works on an iPhone because the manual switch only puts the phone in Vibrate mode.

Considering switching from iPhone 6 (i know, i still listen to vinyl, too..) to this. One concern however is whether it is at all possible to use one-handed? The dimensions are massive compared to iPhone 6, but at least iPhones have this "double tab" on home-button to move the entire screen down for reachability. They had a custom call setting ,in it we had a option of CALLS FROM FAVOURITE CONTACTS ONLY means it will ring only when favorite contacts will call,this was the best feature which i loved in one plus 3 ,i don't know how am gonna adjust with change from tomorrow on my One plus 6. Sadly Except for a good camera ,Extra 2 gb ram ,. & 300 mah power, Am i gonna miss my one plus 3 .

Always enjoy "first 10 things" videos, and man you're good at it (other vids are good too). Question; why is it that no reviewer ever brings up WiFi calling and whether or not the phone being reviewed supports it? I'm sure most are aware that GSM is notorious for dropping service inside buildings. This is a valuable feature I need before I can commit to a device. Maybe you could be the first to report on this in your videos. Does this OnePlus 6 support WiFi calling, really appreciate a response. Thanks!!

Its an essential thing on any phone experience. I think iPhones are the best in the way vibration motor works. I'm using Xeperia XZ1 Compact, let me tell you this, it has the WORST vibration motor ever. Too strong, doesn't sync with the software and no manual control. It is so bad that I turned it off when tapping the nav buttons.
