The capacitive type is very sensitive touch pad that can scan tiny details on you finger. While optical is a camera under the amoled screen. FYI lights can pass through amoled screen, so thats why it needs light to take a detailed picture of your finger print, and Ultrasonic fingerprint scanner works by sending ultra sonic wave to the screen and when it bounce back from your finger now it has the 3D print of your finger and will be recieved by the reciever.

HTC 10 user here, for 2 years. No case, no screen protector, no damage. The formed aluminum back panel that is also the edges of the body makes it so stiff it has no flex. Would have to slam the glass side on a sharp point to break it, but any kind of regular drop isn't going to have an effect. Smart phones should not need cases. They should be engineered from the factory to withstand falls. It is bonkers that as consumers we accept paying so much money for such delicate tech that goes everywhere we go.

Thats not how inscreen fingerprints work. It sends out tiny sound waves that it uses to visualize ridges in your finger. Light has nothing todo with the functioning of sound

No, there just isn't that much resistance on the motor, it is the same as why you can push the camera back in manually. It works sort of like suspension as it can move in and out so it was basically forced in a bit and then the motor pushed it back out again.

I don't think you know how this phone works. Dropping it without moving it in an angle won't make the camera retract, as the retractions will only occur when there is a significant disturbance detected by the gyroscope and other sensors. So holding it still And letting it drop straight down isn't a good test, it doesn't reflect real-world applications.

I was just meaning if they want to break it, it will get damaged hitting the ground - they are also mainly testing the popup camera ability to close when dropped, hence my original comment. if they just want to see if it closes within a distance when dropped, then cool but you dont have to ruin a perfectly good phone to test this is all i thought they were only testing the popup cam closure, not trying to break the phone
