So I am using that as a tablet for my 5 year old son and got this 9th gen version. MUCH faster, a little slimmer, smaller bezels, all around a leap forward. Plus, for the price that’s about $130-$150 cheaper than a current new model this is a nice deal. I look forward to the M-series CPUs coming into iPads which will really help future proof these tablets better but these latest CPUs are pretty strong and should do better to last several years with no compromises.

As for the page file debate, I generally would rather just have more ram. Kind of a dumb contribution, but 16 in a full size tablet shouldn't be that odd. I think having it as an option is definitely nice, assuming the storage is fast. It will somewhat degrade storage life span, but it's not going to be significant for the vast majority of users. They just don't have the read/write cycles for it to matter, unless they used truly awful storage.

@@WalnutWarrior7 It's worth noting that the base iPad only supports the first gen pencil, which doesn't have wireless charging or magnetic attachment so it's more of an inconvenience to use, especially on the go. I think the processor is good enough on both of those tablets that it doesn't really matter for most users, and there are higher end tablets on both sides for professional use. Spec-wise the OnePlus tablet has a much better screen (higher refresh also means more responsive for drawing), double the memory, presumably better speakers and I'm assuming cheaper storage upgrades. If Apple kept the base iPad at the $330 price point, it would be more competitive and interesting. The current gen iPad seems kinda stupid compared to getting the iPad Air or saving money and getting a cheaper android tablet with similar enough specs.

@@Thewaterspirit57 You basically just described the comparable iPad 10th gen. Even having those issues makes it on par with the iPad. This thing isn't competing with the iPad Pro and it's not a professional tablet. The cameras are good enough for video calls. The USB speeds are good enough for basic file transfers. The storage is enough for most people because they're not buying a tablet to take 8k pictures all day. No microSD kinda sucks but no iPad has ever had one so again, it's not really any worse than what you're comparing it to.

Swap storage (the concept of 8+4gb of ram) is iffy on an SSD. Odds are it would be used so little that it's fine, but at the same time, I would never make a swap partition on an install that uses a SSD. 8GB should be more than enough memory, the battery would probably be degraded before the SSD goes bad due to swap space usage...maybe, we don't really have concrete numbers on either really. Windows uses a page file instead of swap, but it's basically the same concept. I have 32gb of ram, but even with the 16gb I have on my budget system I've put together from my last machine with some tweaks Windows is rarely going to ever access the page file, so I leave it alone.

"Do people just not care that companies copy Apple's UI and stuff?" Well considering Apple pretty much made their whole living off other people's work (Xerox, Creative, Nokia, Kodak, Motorola, VirnetX, etc.) I think things looking similar is the least worrisome. As much as it pains me to say that Apple currently holds the tablet market, considering this is OnePlus' first go of doing a tablet, and most prices for DECENT tablets (excluding Apple) is upwards of 600, I'm happy to see a bit of competition. I'm hoping this will shake things up and convince others to start making some more DECENT budget friendly tablets for people. I’m editing with an external ssd and the iPad is very smooth. With this tablet I need to use proxy files in order to edit 4K but it’s fine for my use case. It’s meant to be a leisure device with the option to edit social media content. It’s a beautiful display and the keyboard is so much nicer than the first iPad folio. It’s compact and it has a trackpad. I passed on the bulky 2nd iPad keyboard since I can’t use it on my lap. Oneplus did it right with their tablet keyboard. It charges ridiculously fast for a tablet and I really enjoy editing photos and videos on it.

@@TheStatisticalPizza for most cases, 128gb is enough to have a functioning phone, check a few emails, and the ability to search the web. But appdata fills up quickly and with formatting and OS storage, that 128gb shrinks pretty quickly to about half. Even google stores a lot of data locally. As for the mobile games, it depends on the games. Some apps have a ton of extra content that needs to be downloaded. The 5-10GB cache data that the app store doesn't mention before downloading. All that new and old released content gets saved to your device and you don't notice till your phone says it's running low on storage.

The reason a lot of the UI is similar to apple’s is because it’s the best way to do it. If you’re adding a toolbar on the homescreen or notification banners, if it’s different to apple’s then it’s specifically only like that to be different. Why would you put extra effort and money into development of a product just to make it different to someone else’s?
