List of Changes: Trickery and War Cleric - dancing on the Ranger’s grave since 2024. - Level 1: Divine Order allows you to choose between two options focusing into martial skills or spellcasting. Protector grants heavy armor and martial weapon proficiency while Thaumaturge grants an additional cantrip and allows you to add your Wisdom modifier to Arcana and Religion checks. - Level 2: Channel Divinity returns with two options at this level. Turn Undead now inflicts the frightened and incapacitated conditions on Undead who fail their save. They still run, but are no longer sprinting away. There is also a new Channel Divinity option called Divine Spark which allows you to heal or harm another creature. - Level 5: Destroy Undead has been replaced with Sear Undead. Rather than simply destroying undead below a certain CR, Sear Undead inflicts radiant damage on all undead who fail their save. I’m curious if this is folded into Turn Undead or is it’s own separate Channel Divinity. - Level 6: Blessed Strikes grants another choice at this level. You can either add radiant damage onto weapon attacks or add your Wisdom modifier to the damage of your cantrips. - Level 10: This one will be controversial. Divine Intervention has been completely reworked. Once per long rest, you can call on your Deity for aid. You choose any Cleric spell of 5th level or lower that does not have a reaction casting time and cast that spell. You do not need to have this spell prepared, this does not use a spell slot, and if the spell normally requires material components, this casting does not. That means that you get a free Revivify, Raise Dead, Death Ward or Heal spell every day. I say that this might be controversial because Divine Intervention used to be a big, game changing event on the rare occasions it worked. This is far more reliable, but admittedly weaker and has far less of a narrative impact on your character. I think it’s for the better, but I get where people are coming from if they do not like this change. - Level 14: Blessed Strikes is improved. Even more additional radiant damage to weapon attacks and some improvement to cantrips. - Level 20: Greater Divine Intervention allows you to cast Wish using you Divine Intervention. Life Domain: - Preserve Life now works on Undead and Constructs. - Shortest subclass update yet. Light Domain: - Subclass spell list updated. I don’t care as long as Fireball and Scorching Ray stay. - Warding Flare can now be used on allies at 3rd level (when you first get the feature). Improved Warding Flare at level 6 grants the creature you protect with the Flare temp hp. Finally, you regain all uses of Warding Flare on a short or long rest. - Corona of Light now imposes disadvantage on saving throws against Radiance of the Dawn (subclass Channel Divinity) in addition to spells that deal fire and radiant damage. Trickery Domain: - Blessing of the Trickster now lasts until the end of your next long rest and you can now use this ability on yourself. - Invoke Duplicity now takes only a bonus action to activate and no longer requires concentration because “you couldn’t have any of the Cleric’s really nice concentration spells going simultaneously” and they “didn’t want the subclass to step on the class”. Good thing the game designers fixed the one and only place in the game where that was a problem. Not like there’s, I dunno, a whole class hamstrung by a feature that demands concentration. No, WotC would never restrict a class like that. - There’s a new feature that allows you to teleport and swap places with your duplicate. - Level 17 the benefits of your duplicate now extend to your allies. War Domain: - Channel Divinity: Guided Strike can now be used on allies from the start rather than waiting for an upgrade. - Warpriest now allows your bonus action weapon attack to be either a weapon attack or an unarmed strike. Far more interestingly, you regain uses of Warpriest on a short or long rest. - The Domain Spell list has been updated. Steel Wind Strike is now on the War Cleric’s list. You know what at least someone will be getting some use out of that spell since no one’s ever gonna play a Ranger. - Blessing of the War God keeps the same name, but offers new abilities. You can burn uses of Channel Divinity to cast Shield of Faith and Spiritual Weapon. If you cast either spell using your Channel Divinity, they do not require concentration. Because why not? Dance on the Ranger’s grave why don’t you. - Avatar of Battle gets resistance to all bludgeoning piercing and slashing damage instead of just non-magical bludgeoning piercing and slashing damage on account of magical bludgeoning, piercing, and slashing damage no longer existing.

As a DM I just allow my rangers to use Hunter's Mark without concentration at level 5. I think the reason why the base spell still requires conc is because it's too easy to exploit it in a two-level multiclass dip or taking a feat like Fey Touched.
@JohnvanCapel
@JohnvanCapel 17 күн бұрын
@@Rocker4JCforever That's exactly it. It was "overpowered" in one playtest because of a specific build that immediately multiclasses 3 different ways in order to stack Hex, Hunter's Mark and something else (IIRC either Paladin or Rogue). It was powerful at early levels, but would have *rapidly* fallen off due to delaying class features and not scaling well. Making Hunter's Mark conc free at level 5, or even at level 3, still puts that build in a place where it's just about on par with other options without actually feeling powerful.
@user-ni7ji3fb8m
@user-ni7ji3fb8m 17 күн бұрын
@JohnvanCapel no it is not. You are solving problem with ranger dips, but not with rangers that dip into other classes. At level 5 with 2 levels in monk, 2 levels in fighter- 8 attacks per turn, each dealing extra d6. And all at advantage because you are permanently invisible gloom stalker. And you are concentrating on spike growth while doing all that. And it isn't even a MAD build. And it is easy to use in normal game- 8 attacks nova turn 2 after you set up 2 spells on first turn and you can do it every short rest. Build is online at level 9. It is 77 nova damage plus whatever spell you casted on top. This is 400% of expected 9th level damage.

@@user-ni7ji3fb8m can you explain how you get 8 attacks per turn in this setup please, I never multi classed.
@AlphaOmega08922
@AlphaOmega08922 16 күн бұрын
Okay, so if you're dual-wielding daggers with the weapon mastery property, you can make two attacks with your action. Then monk lets you burn a ki point to make two unarmed strikes as a bonus action, plus raises the damage of your daggers to a d6 each, which your unarmed strikes also do. Ranger lets you HM a target, so you also get an extra d6 to each of those attacks. Let's assume you HM something on turn one, then start going ham on turn two. You'll get two attacks from your action, two attacks from your bonus action, then action surge and get two more attacks from your action. That's only 6 attacks, my guy. And you can only action surge once, and you only get the extra unarmed attack if you spend a focus point, which you only have two of. Therefore, you only get 6 attacks on turn 2, then only 4 attacks on turn 3, then only 3 attacks on subsequent turns. Granted, each of those attacks is dealing 2d6 damage to the creature you have HM on, but that's still a far cry from having 8 attacks every turn at level 5.

The reason they’re not in the core rulebooks is the same as it’s been since they originally came out: they’re not on every plane. I'm a veteran of the 1st Ed. AD&D, Duke. 1983. Clerics and Druids were a totally separate class. Druids were limited to level 14-17. It dealt with a Circle of Druids, with only one Arch Druid ('There can only be One!') at level 17. If you wanted to become a Bard, you had to be a Fighter, a Thief, and then a Druid. Normally you could 'Dual Class' as a Human, where you switch tracks to a second class, so being able to switch to a third class was a special exception. Then you joined a Bard's College, to become the Bard. Half-Elves could become Bards too, but it was strange since Half-Elves multi-class rather than Dual-Class.
@bryanabbott6169
@bryanabbott6169 17 күн бұрын
In the Basic up to Advanced D&D (Expert, Intermediate, etc.), the rules were totally different. In that box set series, you could become a Druid, but you start as a Cleric. But with AD&D, they are separate classes, though you could Dual Class into Druid from Cleric if you want, but it was far from some kind of requirement.

However, the way they worded their reason to drop the Concentration on Trickery Clerics' Invoke Duplicity and the new War Cleric Channel Divinity where they get to cast a Concentration-free Spiritual Weapon... The fact that they *explicitly call out* Steel Wind Strike as "A popular Ranger spell" they gave to War Clerics... They were just *teabagging* on the Ranger's grave.

It is already deals more damage then fighter, it can cast control spells that stay relevant at high levels, they got free movement, skill and utility boosts. What else do you possibly want? Why are you not mad about rogue, that is class that literally only playable with good magic items and provide nothin to the party. Why you are not complaining about wizard changes, that made it barely playable at low levels and still didn't nerfed any OP spells at high levels. Why are you not discussing the biggest change of the actual relevant class to the video cleric- Spiritual Weapon, that now leaving cleric without bonus action option, and forcing them back into "healer" archetype. Or maybe terrible elemental monk level 6th feature that have use in real game. Or the fact that Warlock is still only viable as a Eldritch blast spammer, and real use of it Pact of the Blade is a paladin dip. Or what about high level moon druid? They replaced elemental forms with "moon" teleport, making this subclass unplayable after level 9 as beast dont scale fast enough to rach elementals. Its all fine? I.E. level 11, you have to roll higher that an 81 for a failure. etc That way it makes it more likely to succeed. but also even at lvl 20 there is still a slim chance it doesnt work. but thats just me.

If you can cast a free raise dead daily, and raise dead will work on someone who has died in the last 10 days, won't it means past level 10 nobody can permanently die once the cleric reaches level 10, so long as the cleric doesn't die? Feels like this might be game breaking.

Also, while I wouldn't say they are bad subclasses to have, aren't their better alternatives to have in the starting subclasses for new Cleric than war and Trickery? It's like dedicating half the subclasses to standing on other people's toes. Do you need a War domain cleric when you have Paladin? That's literally what paladins core fantasy is. Same goes for Trickery, sure you can have the fantasy of having a cleric of a trickster god, but rogues and glamour bards already exist. It's superfluous and a little chicken before the egg thematically. A god of tricks is likely going to favour people already dedicated to getting up to no good, not some random who gets all their trickery schtick from the god after the fact. These feel like bad choices for the base players hand book.

The Turning option for channel divinity is not a nerf... when you look at the low CR which was on the table for 2014, you basically never faced creatures of those CR's in most play at 5th level for example. Also the DC of your turn was fairly low, so you probably weren't turning them either. So now, you at least do some damage, might turn, and (if they are fairly low level or you role really well) might still destroy.

10:00 Real question here. Not trying to be mean, but trying to provoke a conversation really. I noticed that D&D has been pushing for inclusivity a lot and more and more I'm seeing player characters with disabilities like paraplegic (in wheelchair). D&D being a fantasy boardgame, allows you to create fantastical creatures that could fly and cast magic spells and change shape; fulfilling ideals that opposes one real life limitations. Why would there be a desire or a push for disability to be a part of a fantasy character personality, which will limit the characters actual effectiveness when doing "adventurous" things? Being paralyzed and bound to a wheelchair will do more to hamper the parties capabilities and navigation , and could lead to the player feeling like a burden, which mirrors real life experiences.

10:00 You want Artificer as a core class? ...play Tales of the Valiant by Kobold Press. Thats what the Mechanist class is, Artificer done right. No more warping the class to be some kinda "gun totting" stupid thing... no, no, no... Like the classic Artificer of 2E and 3.5 Eberron's Artificer... the Mechanist is what happens when you plop a Quantum Physicsist into a Fantasy World! A TRUE Artificer doesn't have Spells, and their Infusions are all based around placing Item Qualities onto objects, which makes them semi-permenant Magic Items which are more resistant to Anti-Magic Fields and Dispell Magic effects... or, in the case of "Spell Storing Item"; putting upto 4th level spells on an item and then chucking them at whatever you dont like...like putting a Maximised CL15 Fireball on a throwing knife, and telling the group's best thrower to "chuck this at something you don't like"...and proceed to watch a Stonechild throw it at a a group of Frost Giant guards...who go boom. ...wait, sorry, thats 3.5. ...but applicable in Tales of the Valiant... 42:24 Oh? You want a good ranger? ...you know where you can find a good, well designed ranger? Tales of the Valiant... Its like, all this iteration of the d20 System needs to be functional and balanced...is for ACTUAL game designers to be involved with its design, and a clear understanding of the system... y'know, instead of "thoughts and feelings" like what WotC is doing... hence why certain classes are so overpowered in 2024 Edition, and others are...well...Ranger.

You know nothing about the technical side, do you? Since WotC bought the D&D IP back in 1997, they took about 3 years to create the d20 System that 3E would go on to use. People like Monte Cook, Skip Williams, David Noonan, Ari Marmell, Wolfgang Baur, Sean Reynalds, Bruce Cordell, and many others worked for years to make that system. 5E still uses, and was designed to use a newer, simpler, streamlined version of that system. But during development of 5E, pretty much all of those game designers left WotC over "Creative Differences". Oh, hey, Wolfgang Baur started his own company called Kobold Press... Oh, hey, they then created a Worldbook of a setting called "Midgard", where they revamped all the classes... Oh, hey, Kobold Press have also released Monster Books and Heroes books that actually work on the Encounter and Combat and Rewards tables they're ment too... Oh, hey, Wolfgang and KP then formalised their own *FIX* of 5E with Tales of the Valiant. Also, "lazy rip-off"? Ever heard of Pathfinder, numbnuts?

@@user-ni7ji3fb8m but.. isn't that exactly what 5e24 is going to be? A fix? Put into your context; van Gogh was the creator, in this instance Mike Mearls created 5e. You, the not creator, downloaded gogh's painting and splashed some dots on it and call it a fix (you citing that is an example of a carbon copy which is the point I'm driving it). WotC, the not creator, took Mike's creation and is splashing some dots on it and is calling it a fix. same thing. Given MM worked at WotC so in the legal sense of the term, what he produces belongs to them, sure. They are free and clear to make whatever changes they want, but at the end of the day, it's still a fix. If it's not, then there would be zero reason to change anything. Likewise, other people out there, Kobold Press (who has worked with and has published content WITH WotC in the past) has taken an idea and developed it. 100% nothing at all wrong with that is there? If it WERE an issue then by that logic, we should only have.. one fast food burger joint to choose from.. one soda flavor to choose from.. one _food_ to choose from... one shirt to choose from.. one car to choose from.. one tv show to choose to watch.. one book to read... one ttrpg to play... c'mon @user-ni7ji3fb8m this is an instance in which logic is going to prevail, and I know you are very logic minded and are better than this.

Putting divination spells on light domain that already gets those kinds of spells just robs light domain of its magical blaster role. Its supposed to bring the fire, and now that's being stripped away and replaced with spells clerics already have access to. If they want to give us a divination cleric, just give us a Fate Domain and leave Light alone.

What they described light domain as doesn't even touch 'Fate' just because they're listed in the divination school doesn't require it to be divining. Healing spells are technically necromancy (by the school description)

But that "whatever you want" supposed to be resolved by dm as "an appropriate cleric apell". Now it just went from 10% to cast up to 9th level spell once a week to 100% chance to cast a 5th level once a day. And at 20th level actually ask whatever you want because you don't suffer permanent lost of wish as a cleric.

The cleric is not supposed to be a fighter, put that in a subclass where it belongs, focus the class on spells (not necessarily healing) The Cleric 'Wish' is called 'Miracle' Why are the 'subclass' options for cleric and wizard just specialization? That really feels like a lack of imagination. There's so much more someone can do with arcane/divine magic than just specializing. None of the other classes are limited to specialists Clerics help their allies.. yea, beating an ogre with your mace is very helpful to others.. That is directly why the cleric should not be able to fight as well. Proficiency in heavy armor and one weapon of your choice
