It's a matter of the modelers getting better. You look at the helicopters that were there when the game released in 2013 all the helicopters have those thin piddly rotor blades but as the years go by the blades gradually look like they can actually support the helicopter they are attached to.

Most vehicles since the Diamond Casino Update (possibly even earlier) have looked far more like their irl counterparts whilst prior only some did whilst a majority were warped or amalgamations like the Uranus (which has now been split into 2 different cars)

Minor overlook - the Cargobob is one of the few Pegasus vehicles that *does* have counter-measures, but they are only controllable by the co-pilot. They're also wonky "1st gen" countermeasures and not like the standardized ones that came later.

From the looks of it, the Iron Mule is based on the beautiful and freaking powerful Hh-53 King Stallion or just the CH/HH Stallion lineup. These babies are dedicated heavy lift helicopters from back in Vietnam and were capable of picking up downed aircraft AND the crew AND live to tell the tale. Guys, I'd been praying to see my birthday twin (decades apart) added and they finally did it❤

Th King Stallion is a CH-53. The HH you’re talking about was called “the jolly green giant. But I’m pretty sure the Cargobob was loosely based on the Ch-53 as well, considering it says “Marines” on it, and the Marine Corps is the only branch still using that specific model. But with the cargo bob, it looks like they originally didn’t want it to look exactly like the CH-53, so they incorporated a few other designs in it as well. This time with this Iron Mule, they were definitely going for a more accurate look.

@DoomsdayHustle the HH/CH/MH are all the exact same helicopter, jolly green giant was an old name used by our Europe counterparts. Started as Stallion, Super Stallion and is now King Stallion. First took flight in prototype form on my birthday but all the way back in the 60s and served valiantly in Vietnam. The navy had a triple engine variant they used for minesweeping which the helicopter was extremely steady and perfect for, eventually upon becoming the King Stallion the 53 permanently kept its triple engine variant. Again, jolly green giant was just another name for the stallion lineup, i even have an highly detailed encyclopedia from 05 that lists all this except for King Stallion obviously.

this is exactly the type of video i was looking for. the most important vehicle in this update, and for the last several updates. the cargobob was feeling very antiquated in modern gta. this heli is much better in every way. however it's much bigger so it can't fit in tight spaces like picking up a car next to a building, but the longer hook should make up for that in most places. the only thing that could've make this better was having a magnet instead of a hook for even easier pickup. i wonder if other big cargo vehicles will come. like the biggest heli in the world, the mi24. that'd be epic. or maybe let us buy the cargo jet. man i'm excited for the first time in a long time about gta

The only real downside to the mule is the ramp on the back doesn't fully open so you can't walk in from the back and stand in it while you're flying. It also means then that you can't have a guy in the back that could snipe positions. Also you can't place two guys on the side doors that can use weapons to give the chopper some form of offensive power. For the rest it is a brilliant chopper.

Wow a cargo lifting heli that isnt slow enough to be damaged to smoking by NPC's before it takes off with the car and is easily outpaced by any NPC heli. Shame its about 5 years too late to really matter but hopefully the next game lauches with vehicles that are fit for purpose.

Your speed is not proportional to height though, it's a flat increase when you fly higher than 950 feet, so if you fly 1 foot or 949 feet above ground you don't get any speed increase

I've always had mixed feelings about the OG Cargobob. On one hand, it was the biggest helicopter available (fun fact: My stats say I have spent more time in helicopters in GTA V than in cars) and it could lift external loads. But on the other hand the Cargobob never knew if it wanted to be a CH-47 or a CH-53. That bothered me. Pick one of the two, recreate it in the game and make it recognizable. Same as with the cars. Nobody wants a car that looks half like a Porsche and the other half like a Ferrari.

@@bedeckt Yes, I know that. But usually they strike a better compromise between being recognizable and avoiding copyright claims. The best example is the new DH-7 Iron Mule. It is unmistakably a CH-53 Super Stallion. I reckon the Cargobob only looks so dumb because it was in the game since the very beginning. Rockstar had to undergo a learning process and become better at designing new vehicles that don't infringe any copyrights.
